Surprised this hasn't been posted here so far..
Considering she took a semester off to take care of her sick mother, I find it hard to believe she would abandon her and never come back. I wish there was more info about her personal life to help figure out what truly happened. There hasn't been any recent updates wither. Considering the police think she walked out on her life, they probably aren't even investigating her disappearance.

Police believe Asia walked out and left her life behind but her family thinks differently.

Asia Martin

On a Spring evening in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, 19-year-old Asia Martin told her roommate that she was going for a walk. It was around 8:40 p.m. on May 27, 2005, when Asia left her home at the Robinson Place Apartments. Her roommate didn’t expect Asia to be gone long, but the young woman never returned and hasn’t been seen or heard from again.
Asia spent most of her youth in her hometown of Slidell, Louisiana before she moved to Mississippi in 2003 during her junior year of high school. After graduating from Petal High School, Asia Martin enrolled at Pearl River Community College, but when her mother fell ill, she decided to take a semester off.
Asia Martin

Three days before she disappeared, Asia Martin purchased a bus ticket to visit her ailing mother in Denver, Colorado. When it came time for her to depart, she never got on that bus. Authorities are convinced that Asia simply walked away and left her life behind. Her family, however, have said that Asia would never disappear without contacting them. Understandably, they believe that something dangerous has happened to her. Since Asia’s went missing, her mother has died, but her father still awaits news about what happened to his little girl.
At the time of her disappearance, Asia was 5 feet 2 inches tall and weighed 115 pounds. She has black/dark brown hair, brown eyes, and is unable to bend her left pinky finger. Both of her ears are double pierced and her lower teeth are crooked. She goes by the nickname “Nikkie” and has a medical condition that hasn’t been specified in public reports.
Anyone with information regarding Asia’s disappearance is urged to contact the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office at 406-758-5610 or their local authorities.
Please share this story about Asia Martin to continue the conversation about her missing person case. She is our sister and her life matters

These cases are always so heartbreaking. I wonder if going for walks was common for her or if this was a one-time thing.

Just the lack of investigation in this case is sickening. Someone who would take a semester off of school is not the same someone who would just up and abandon their ailing mom.

How can the police be so sure she’s up & left when the family are trying to tell them it’s bizarre out of character behaviour . I’m sure They would know her better then the police so why not listen to her loved ones & investigate properly . Sigh

What does walking out of your life even mean???? Huh? Do they think she took on a new identity??? The police gave an unacceptable reason for why this girl went missing

nobody goes for a walk at 8:40. The sun is totally down , especially in areas like where she lived , full of trees and woods.

I think she went to meet someone .

wow. shocking I never heard of this case

This is what I’m saying!!!! I thought that going for a walk at nearly 9pm was odd. Going to meet someone is a good potential reason.

I don’t think going for a walk at night is rare or unheard of. She may have been waiting for the temps to go down. It was almost June in Mississippi. I want to believe the police had more information than they released to the public. And that’s where came to the conclusion that she left to get away. But I really don’t think so. She most likely met with foul play.

Oh wow! I've never heard of this case now I want to look it up. It is a little suspicious that she would be going for a walk at almost 9PM I agree with above she may have went to meet someone.

It's weird that police wouldn't investigate more especially since she had bought a bus ticket to go see her sick mother and did not make it for the bus trip, but they really try not to work or investigate further into cases with black girls it's so sad smh

Wow.. Never heard of her story..
This is sad, I don't think she just walked away and decided to never come back. I do believe something bad happened to her.

Sad. I am a year older than her. Thinking back, I had just finished my 2nd year of college at this time. Hanging out with my boyfriend (now husband) every damn day.

Of course things are not adding up. Somewhere between the police and the family is information not being told, obviously.

Did they ever question the father?

Someone saw her walking and isn't saying anything

I wonder if she was quietly dating someone and going to meet him

I want them to relaunch investigation and look again at everyone she knew including the roommate

That whole “she walked away from her life” is rooted in the 60s hippies movement. White girls were doing that. Middle class white girls would run off, camp in the woods, smoke pot, hitchhike, go with strange men, and have orgies. Then their stupid ass parents would report them missing and waste the police depts time. After all that suckin, most of them came back home like nothing ever happened. But many also were never seen again. It had nothing to do with black women, or black people. But after the era was LONG over, the police used that excuse A LOT and then the families have to beg and spend whatever money they have, if they have any.

I definitely agree that she met someone. Sadly, the only way this will get solved is if someone comes forward. Such a sad ending for her mom, smh.

Knowing Mississippi and how racist a lot of the police force is, they just didn't care. I hate this. Man, in 2005, I was in the 8th grade. Going to walks at almost 9PM in the middle of June in MS, IS odd, though. I agree with everyone that she was probably secretly dating or going to meet a guy and something happened.

Sounds like there's more to her story. I wonder if it was normal for her to go for a walk and if so, where she typically went. Did she have a boyfriend? Anyone she was seeing romantically? Any friends in the area that she may have had a problem with recently? What was her relationship with her roommate like? Were there any violent/xes offenders in the area?

I hope the case is reopened and assigned to a detective who gives a damn.

I wonder what the medical condition is that they mentioned she has.

I hope it’s something that clarifies her disappearance more than “she decided to walk off into the sunset.”

Maybe epileptic and she seized out somewhere or a heart condition.

Regardless, I hope nothing too sinister because then there’s probably more victims.

I have never heard of this story. The lack of details are for a specific reason.

I don't think her taking a walk at that time is that strange. Late May, it's still somewhat light at that time and it's probably hot during the day. Not to say she couldn't have been trying to meet somebody, but it could have also just been a walk.

What doesn't make sense is that she would literally just walk away from her life entirely. Likely she came into some kind of harm. So sad that this case was never investigated.

She probably went to meet someone.
Going for a random walk at 9pm isn't normal.
Now if the roommate said she was walking somewhere particular like the gas station or corner store, it wouldn't be so strange.

Wish they would've done some more digging.
I know people do just walk away from their life, but a 19 year old going to community college? I doubt it.

5'2, 115 is incredibly tiny plus she had a medical condition. I don't believe she just "walked away".

You should make a post on /r/unresolvedmysteries, they're very active and are always interested in cases with little information/botched investigations. It's really one of the only true crime communities that acknowledges Missing White Woman Syndrome and make efforts to bring attention to non white victims.

I agree. I grew up in MS, and it was common for teens to meet up with friends and just walk the neighborhoods at night. You might stop and hang on somebody's front porch or steps. Wasn't sh!t else to do, especially in a rural or semi-rural area in the summer. The strange part is her not coming back. This should've been investigated.

This hits hard because I too go for walks at night due to being exhausted from taking care of my Dad and needing a break, getting out of the house. I always take the dog with me though.
Maybe Unsolved Mysteries can help? This beautiful woman deserves justice.

yeah it’s not strange to take a walk, especially in a rural area. I bet the police suspect someone but they won’t say because they have no proof. Somebody she was messing around with, or maybe she was done with them and they got her. It’s an old tale honestly. Psychological profile: Local. Black. Older. Has a history of violence with women, or just violence period. Knows victim, yes.

eta: I always thought Asia was such a beautiful name for black girls . Never seen an ugly Asia...
