I'm trying to get back into roller skating again after some years away from it, & want to purchase a decent pair of skates that won't cost me an arm & a leg lol! I know a good pair can get expensive, but I want a pair that will last me a few years & so I won't have to rent skates when the rinks open back up. Any recommendations LSA?

Try Chicago Skates or Moxi

You might have luck at Academy Sports or Dicks Sporting Goods

I am sitting for the responses. I saw a lot of nice ones on Amazon but they were pricy.

Op this is a good question. I have been hearing a lot about roller skates lately. My 4 year old just asked for a pair he said he had a dream about them last night now he knows he can skate just needs a pair to show me. I want to tell him it doesnt work that way but I dont want to break his little heart.

The cheaper level Reidel skates are better than Chicago IMO.

Go on Youtube and search because there are skate reviews.

Chile, I’ve been looking for outdoor skates since March. All of the reasonably good skates are all sold out.

Impala
Suregrip
Moxi
Riedell
even Atom brand Jackson Vipers

Chicago skates are cheap and your body will feel it. The bearings are stiff, which prohibits the wheels from spinning. The wheels are cheap hard plastic that’s a nightmare with skating outdoors.

If you plan to skate outdoors, it’s best to have gummy wheels. 78A is pretty good.

I made the mistake of buying an unknown brand off Dick’s website. Big mistake! I attempted to skate to the park. By the time I made my way back home my legs and hips were burning.

Good luck hunting.

If you can’t find a fully assembled pair that is meets your needs, you can get a slightly cheaper pair and then order better wheels separately.

First - What’s your budget?

Chicago is the worst skates you can buy. You will hurt yourself.

Also what’s style of skating will you be skating?

Welp just talked to one of my friends who skates frequently(haven't talked to her in a while). She said never to buy Chicago Skates or a brand called Skate Gear....even great roller skaters hurt themselves on those!! Either go to a skate specialty shop, a shop within the skating rink, or just drop some money & order a pair of low end Moxi's, SureGrip's, or Candi Girl's. Basically any skates under like the $120 range are trash. *sigh*

Skating has become the thing to do now with this quarantine so supplies are low. My profile picture has my Impala Skates, they are good for a starter and are under $120. Riedel is good and they also make Moxi brand skates. Everything is on back order right now.

whatever you do—Don’t by C7, Chicago, Skate Gear or any roller skates at Dick’s. The wheels, trucks and bearings are cheap and you could get badly injured.

Try EBay because people will by skates in the wrong size and quickly resell them brand new.

I just ordered a pair of these sureGrip skates for $189 (plus tax, toe guard & shipping = $200+) 3 days ago. Happened to catch a restock post from sincityskates on IG and hightailed it to check out. Personally I wanted the purple one but the way skates have been selling out I grabbed the next best color.

I’m a beginner myself but I didn’t want to go cheap for my first pair but I didn’t want to invest $300+ right out the gate for moxie skates so price wise I’m happy with the Suregrips. It’s a little hard to find recent reviews on rollerstakes so Tiktok is where I’ve been seeing quick overviews of certain brands. Also some Facebook groups for new beginner skaters are Good sources of informations

I purchased a pair of Sure-Grip Outdoor skates. They were a bit more than I wanted to spend, but they are comfortable. There is a shortage of skates worldwide.
Of course, this is contingent, on your shoe size.
Boardwalk Outdoor Park Series Skate

*Also, remember to buy a skate tool to tighten/loosen your wheels. I had to loosen two of them.

Oh, in the hunt for my skates. I called this store for recommendations. (I chose three different brands, after looking at reviews and they were all sold out.
They were helpful and ship nationwide. They do have a brick and mortar store.

*I did purchase what they recommended

You can do Chicago but you would need to upgrade your wheels and bearings..

And if you are getting back into skating then it may be the best bet as opposed to spending a whole heep of cash on something that you may or may not follow thru with.

I am looking at Moonlight, would you suggest them for a starter? If you could send me a link to skates (size 7) on Amazon that you know is best for beginners and will last long please share!! Thank you.

I just bought some Impala Holographic Skates, what I thought was an 8 was an actual 7. Can't return them I bought them from overseas and return shipping is on me. Trying to offload them on ebay.

I heard negative reviews for them. Apparently they last for 3-4 and are past the warranty. What solidified it for me was when I reached a sista out who is an ambassador, off the record. She told they are sh!t skates and actually skates with Moxis and Moonlight. I checked both out and Moxi is a choice but they are having issues and also sold out. Moonlight is black owned and in stock so I ordered Emerald city. I am beyond excited

I really wanted some Reidell's but they are backordered until the end of the year. I.bought these as a beginner pair instead of buying an expensive pair upfront. I've never heard of Moonlight, I will look them up.

I ordered some Moxis not sure when they will arrive so I ordered some from Macy’s to get back in the groove until my Moxis arrive. I’m nervous I’m going to bust my ass.

You probably need to look into Moxi’s which Riedell creates.

The rainbow ones are a NO for me lol. I def want some moxi’s I want the Lolly’s but I’d settle for the Beach Bunny but I’m an 8.5-9 women’s and I can’t find my size anywhere right now. I found the Angel skates not the brand but Reidell brand on another site marked up $30 so I’m like ummmm. Ima keep checking daily several times .

If you’re going to skate regularly, it’s best to spend some money. At the very least make sure the boot is 100% leather.

Agreed. The boot, wheels, bearings, and truck are very important if your a daily skater. I have the beach bunny skates which come with a vinyl boot. I don’t know what skates I’m getting next but they’ll probably have leather boots.

The beach bunny’s are nice I have a pair in purple. The boot is vinyl so it’s stiff but I’ve had them for 2 years and I’ve broken them in now. I’m probably going to get some harder wheels because I like to skate fast and gummy wheels make it harder to do that. We wear the same size and my mother who is also the same size just ordered some off of Amazon so try looking on there.

Your mother ordered Lollys? What size did you get in your skates? I did see some there yesterday but biggest size was 8 so I figured I need a 9 or 10. I’ll settle for the Bunny but the suede is so beautiful to me. I want the moonlight skates too but they are all sold out too. I wanna skate so bad I can’t wait to get a pair. I tried to get some years ago but I didn’t research and ended up returning my cheap skates to academy and getting an expensive bike (which I still love) I just wanna skate too. I bet they weren’t sold out like this two years ago. Sigh, thanks. I’m def going to keep looking.

I just asked her and she said her size wasn’t in stock and this was for the beach bunnies my bad. I have a size 8 for my skates and I wear a size 9 sometimes 8.5 in regular shoes. You can try looking at VNLA skates but their skates aren’t what I would call cute at least not like Moxis. I’m not sure what their cheapest skate is but it might not be less than 150 or 200. Try Bruised boutique they sell several different brands. They even have the option to buy customized skates but that starts at $300 something and I’m going to assume you aren’t trying to pay that much.

I mean I would if it was worth it. I just don’t want to wait too long. So they have an 8 in stock online of the Beach bunny, but it’s the watermelon color ugh! Lol. I might get them...I’m not a fan of the watermelon but maybe I can freak them and then when all this dies down I’m gonna get the skates I really want which who’ll be some sexy suede ones.

oh wait I see they are 339. I’m not paying that when regular price is $149 lol. I might as well get the Riedell. I’m actually getting ok with the white option because I can add light and strings to give me some pop. And when all this dies down I guess I get a cuter pair. I’m going to go check out the other place you recommended too.

You might just want to wait because you might end up not wanting to skate due to that not being the ones you want and that would be a waste of money. Some skating rinks sell skates so you can try calling the nearest rink and ask what they have. I think my rink only sells VNLA skates which look like this;

Ya know I was thinking of calling the skating rink, I don’t have ally skate shops in my area and the closest one is 1 1/2 who also sells Moxi and it’s preorder/back order in. I don’t want that style of skate I want the artistic style. Now the VNLA are not that cute but they are not that ugly either. I see they are new though and the one review that is out in them, said they are on the stiffer side so you can’t jam in them. I’m not trying to do jam skating per say but I do wanna be able to maybe do a little something while listening to my music. I’d consider the VNLA for now. I don’t know how long I’d have to wait. Some websites say 18-36 week wait. So I can get something to hold me over now. Yea I think that’s what I will do.

Well good luck, remember to tell us when you get your new skates! You can jam skate in VNLA skates, a lot of people at my rink have them and can jam but I would say they’re better for speed skating. Might depend on the skate but this is one of the best skates for jam skating however they’re almost $700. I can kinda jam in my Beach bunnies and that’s a vinyl boot.

I think I’m going to preorder from Bruised boutique and wait it says 2-30 weeks. I really want some suede joints. I like those purple VNLA’s but they are so new I’m scaring myself if they may need to work some things out with them. I’m still thinking....haha
