I was hoping to get some good recs for hydrating toners. Before I was using Biologique Recherche lotion p50 and I loved it but now that I've added Retin-A to my routine I don't want to over-exfoliate. My skin type is normal to dry now because of the Retin-A.

Any help would be soooo appreciated!

These three have worked wonders for me while on Tretinoin. All you need is a little in your palm and they sink into your skin.

I love the Heritage Rose Water toner. It was recommended by Golden Skin Rx on YouTube/Twitter and it’s about $11.99. It’s one of the best toners I’ve found for less than $20.

use both of these products faithfully and one thing that really helps with the dryness is, using Retin A for a week and then P50 the next. Then taking a week in between where I don't use either, just focus on hydrating my skin, then resume alternating weeks.

Hey sis, Biologique Recherche P50s are EXFOLIATING toners with AHAs/BHAs/PHAs. They can be extremely caustic to the skin if you're new to strong acids/not used to them.

They are not hydrating/moisturizing toners and should never be used every day nor should they be used the morning after you've applied Retin-A.

use both of these products faithfully and one thing that really helps with the dryness is, using Retin A for a week and then P50 the next. Then taking a week in between where I don't use either, just focus on hydrating my skin, then resume alternating weeks.

This is a great recommendation, except Retin A doesn't need to be used all 7 days. In fact, you should be applying it every 2-3 days at night, sandwiching your moisture in between. I wouldn't even rely on P50 the following week beyond one day. Just make sure you are applying hydrating sheet masks every 2 days and you will see a minimization of the common flaky skin that comes with Retin-A. I have this method locked down and there's no flakes or peely skin whatsoever.

Overexfoliating will make your skin irritated over time, as well as decrease the efficacy of strong acids like P50 (which have a pH of like 3.5-4.0). You want to make sure that when you do use them, they're working for you instead of just sitting on your skin.

Here's some HYDRATING TONERS I recommend:

I'm From Mugwort essence
Whamisa Organic Flowers Deep Rich Toner (hard to find in US, but in Europe, you will be successful)
Earth's Recipe Energy Boosting toner (if you combine this with Isntree's Hyaluronic + toner, you will get the effect of the Whamisa one)
Enature Squeeze Green Watery Toner
Iunik vitamin hyaluronic vitalizing toner
Kikumasamune rich moisture lotion (add this to a small spritz bottle and you can mist your face with it throughout the day)
Laneige creamy skin toner

I lock in the moisture with SkinFood's propolis honey essence serum and Dear Klair's vitamin E moisture mask and/or Egyptian Magic skin cream

Sheet mask: Benton Snail Bee mask (the best!)

I didn't mean every day during the week. I only use it 2-3 times a week

Whatever you choose, be sure the product is a hydrating toner and not a moisturizing toner. Some people may mix those up.

This is so timely because I have recently reincorporated P50 in my morning routine and I use Retin A in the evenings a few times a week.

I’m also about to order another version of P50 the PIGM 400 so definitely need up my hydration toning. I’ve been slacking on the hydration component which explains why I’ve been extra flakey.

My hydrating toners of choice are Klaris Supple Preperation and Secret Key Starting Treatment Essence.

I mist my skin with Caudalie’s grape water (any hydrating face mist will do) before applying (hyaluronic can actually suck moisture out if applied to dry skin, especially in a dry climate)

Like others have said I use and LOVE this toner:

K-2829.jpg

I layer it 2-3 times then use the serum:

I buffer my retin-a (0.1%) with my moisturizer:

mixed with 1-2 drops of this:

Afterward, I look like a glazed donut but my skin is soothed and hydrated. No Retin A flakes or burning whatsoever.

BTW...if your skin is irritated and dry...try this sheet mask. It's amazing at moisturizing and soothing skin.

After using it, I like using the extra serum with my high-frequency wand (I only use this on nights I don't use retin a)
