Breakdancing to be introduced as new Olympic sport for Paris 2024 - with skateboarding, surfing and climbing to stay on after debuting in Tokyo next year
The street dance - which will be known as 'breaking' at the Games - has been added by the International Olympic Committee as they look to have a 'strong focus on youth'.
It was also confirmed on Monday that skateboarding, surfing and sport climbing, which are set to make their debuts at next summer's Olympics in Tokyo, will stay on the programme for Paris.
Breakdancing is one of four new sports to get the Olympic green light for inclusion at the 2024 Paris Games
Skateboarding will also feature as an Olympic sport at the 2024 Paris Games, the IOC said
The Paris 2024 organising committee had last year proposed the four sports for inclusion and was waiting on a final review by the IOC's Executive Board
Skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing are already part of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which has been postponed for a year because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The three sports had been proposed along with karate by the Japanese hosts.
Paris Games organisers have said they want to deliver a programme that is in keeping with the times and will attract a new and younger audience.

But the request of the International Gymnastics Federation to add parkour - a street activity involving running, jumping and climbing over obstacles - was rejected.
The overall athlete quota in France has been reduced to 10,500 - 592 fewer than Tokyo - and for the first time at an Olympics there will be an exact 50-50 split of male and female participants.
IOC president Thomas Bach said: 'With this programme, we are making Paris 2024 fit for the post-corona world. We are further reducing the cost and complexity of hosting the Games.'
Meanwhile, athletes have been told they must not arrive in Tokyo more than five days before the start of their competition - and they must leave two days after they finish.
