Yea I understand having a hairstyle preference and we should be able to do wtf we want with our hair but to act like the styles we “prefer” isn’t rooted in European standards is ridiculous.

I see people say braids are the vacation or down time hair. I personally find them too high maintenance but my hair is natural and free most of the time.

I also think the tweeter is very crass and a poor communicator like so many people over on Twitter, so that may have skewed what she was trying to say.

Weaves and wigs get matted up quick and you have to use a lot of product to keep the hair looking nice especially if it’s human. I guess this is why they feel more elegant because it requires more care imo.
I’ll keep my basic ass in braids :bashful

Knotless boxbraids are for fine/soft hair.

eta was letting her know I have the same hair type and knotless work amazing for me.

OP it seems that the self-hatred is rampant but nobody is having these conversations. I have brought up in other threads that bw need to stop buying and gluing white women's hair to their scalps and one font got angry and insisted that it wasn't white woman's hair and another font was like "oh it's Malaysian, Brazilian" hair etc. I was like WTF my point still stands! I saw this woman on The People's Court who said she had spent $650 for a damn wig. And it definitely looked like white women's hair.

Look at LSA's fave who has been wearing stringy blonde wigs for 25 years and has whitened her appearance but nobody talks about that. It's like the self hatred has become standard in the community. Even little black girls wear weaves and are ashamed of their real hair. It's sick.

I don't like braids either like that. Cultural or not... these heavy, tight braids are as bad as glue on your scalp. People still do female genital mutilation, eat Bush meat, and think albinos are magic in parts of Africa... at some point, you have to start using modern knowledge that evolution and science has provided.

Also, most people are wearing weave in their braids and braids literally simulate vertical, straight hair... if this is what you're trying to get at. Pre-relaxers and pre-hot combs, braiding and the stretch-method was realistically the only way to get "straight" hair...

Let's not act like these long ass box-braids, micros, etc. are all that different from a sew in psychologically or in regard to traction alopecia.

I'm saying this as someone who agrees that the weave (particularly straight and loose curly) craze is excessive. It's just that braids are right up there with it, as far as pathology goes.

None of these bishes are sexy so they might as well save their money. 22-inch bundles won't transform them into sexpots.

The issue is ppl assume putting braids in your head means you can neglect your scalp’s hygiene and then drag it wearing it 2+ months.

I don't like the look either because worn en masse the way it is, it looks like there's something wrong with them. But because that hair is not going anywhere between now and the far future as they're now wearing it on their lashes, might as well call it day and get over it -- I have.

I used to wear the box braids braids back when remember it was common to see a braid here, a braid there, a braid everywhere that had fallen off someone's hair? So because the braids are been there done that so they're tired to me, I don't wear them and I don't see much difference between that, the wigs and the weaves -- it's all the same to me because it's all bought hair no matter how you apply it.

The hair is worn like a *can't leave home without it* item, so I say hey, if they like it, then I let them love it because it's them, not me.

I see waaaay to many people edgeless and vaulting from wearing braids. Hard pass. At least with a wig you can get one that closely resembles your hair texture and hide it behind your hairline But wigs are also way to hot.

I see just as many women edgeless from wearing lacefronts though. The glue rubbed away their edges and they wear the wigs round the clock so they're hair isn't moisturized, receiving sunlight or air.

I agree that’s why I stated wearing wigs behind your hairline. I don’t do braids or lace fronts because of the missing edges epidemic sweeping the black community

if I'm being honest, 85% of yall look crazy with wigs on lol. It's like a lot of folks don't know how to shape/laid their wigs, so it looks like you have a hat/helmet on.

Thank God I get to wear my natural hair in any style I want so I don't have to worry about fake bundles or braids
My scalp hurts even thinking about going back and forth on my hair too much like this.

Y'all are some real G's hair sew ins and wig clips look beautiful on women but seem very painful.

I totally agree with you. It is sick. And now black women are going crazy with those awful spider eye-lashes. It looks a damn mess! Like they can't hardly hold their eyes open.
They are obsessed with wig & weaves. They look like clowns in that sh!t, but walking around thinking they're looking gorgeous. The fave stays in blonde wig. And ain't got no damn melanin nowhere.

That same woman I mentioned in the other post who spent $650 on that wig also had those silly lashes on as well. It's like these women watch these Housewives and Love n Hip Hop shows and try to emulate what they see. I remember in college I had a black female neighbor who NEVER wore her real hair. She STAYED in wigs and weaves and I believe she had self hate issues as well.

LSA's fave used to look much darker and there are receipts online that prove this. With more money and fame her complexion got lighter and lighter and in some photos practically white and the blonde hair is a joke. Even her Super Bowl "pro black" performance was a joke because she still wore that stupid blonde wig while she had her dancers in afros that she is too ashamed to wear her damn self. Give me a damn break.

The self hate is pathetic. All these black women out here spending hundreds of dollars to have some other ethnic group's hair covering their head.

I don’t like braids on me either, I also have white friends that hate their thin dog like hair also. Don’t think it’s a self hate thing

Um my hair is thick and long and knotless braids look just fine on me. It absolutely depends on the braider. The lady I go to is excellent at making the braids FLAT.
I was letting her know she can get knotless braids and they’ll work for her hair type. I wear them all the time cause they don’t slip like regular ones. Thanks.

i said that before and got groaned. People with box braids that complain about wigs and weaves are weird. It is like people do not like to see natural hair out at ALL!

I had two ex boyfriends that said they were attracted to my natural hair, but then they both begged me to get braids. Like WTF?
