Video talking about how the only black girl is depicted on "stranger things." I haven't seen the show but saw snippets, and I rolled my eyes at how Erica acts. Also apparently the black boy has a non-black girlfriend. Why wasn't Erica given to a biracial girl, since shows love to have black daughters depicted as biracial??

Yeah, I am glad I am not the only one who peeped this. It really threw me off with the way Erica is portrayed. The sassy, rolling of the neck and eyes, is just cringey. I love how smart and spunky she is, but why can’t we have a black girl that’s just normal and not a caricature?

Also having Lucas and Max date, I wasn’t feeling it, at all. Smh. I really would’ve wished they made an unambiguous black girl be the same age as Eleven and the boys. Or at least a unambiguous black girl to be apart of the group with the teenagers.

I'm very interested to see if they switch things up this season after the year of 2020. Erica and Lucas are the only kids from Season 1 where we never got to meet their family. People have tried calling the Duffer Brothers out before, but the scripts never changed.

I agree. I really disliked her character. She was so incredibly rude and aggressive. When she meets the hippy conspiracy theory dude she suddenly gets so aggressive with him and has to be told to calm down by everyone. Why?

It was one thing to have her be annoying to her older brother but her actions to everyone around her is so stink.

I liked that she was shown as smart but that didn't outdo the pure ugliness of her character.

Erica could have been the female version of the guy with the hair. You think he's gonna be a big douche but he turns out to be a hero and is really there for the group. But no, she's just a bad stereotype of the black girl who deserves nothing but derision. Ugh.

The show is set in the 80s. Adjust your expectations and stop looking for her to be a try hard Tumblr inspired Sza / Yara Shahidi wannabe.

lmao Yeah Lucas might have had a white girlfriend but they've kissed literally one time on the show and barely acted like a coupled in the third season. The writers of the show just don't know what to do with black people.

They expanded Erica's character in the third season because people liked her in the second season. Her character wasn't portrayed negatively. I think the video is doing too much. A lot of people like her character. She's supposed to be a bratty little sister. LOL at her using reddit which is full of white racist for the perception of her character lmao.

I love Erica!

At first she was a stereotype but in the last season she just showed her nerdy side and is pretty much the equivalent of all these bratty geeks.

I have no issue with Lucas and Max and really have to side eye all of you grown ass women having an issue with it :disdain

They wrote her as a horrible stereotype and it ruined my enjoyment of the third season, though the plot had several issues. I started skipping through some of her scenes and I can't believe no one called out how she was a stereotype of a "sassy black girl."

I hated the character. They made her an exceptionally annoying black caricature and it was a slog to get through some of her scenes, but I was pretty turned off by that whole season overall.

They don't want Black men but have a problem with them being shown with non black women.

I did feel like they wrote Erica as a stereotype, and felt bad about the backlash Lucas (Caleb) received after s1. I mean, he was the only logical one? I don’t think it was wrong of him to be skeptical in regards to Eleven, and don’t like how the racists came after him. Also hate how they redeemed the same character (Billy) who pinned the boy up against a wall but -
