Do you think more or less young black women and teen girls are becoming interested in feminism?

I've seen some radical feminists say feminism is dying. Do you think that's the case among young black women?

I think more black women are unapologetically putting their interests first. I'm seeing more black women unapologetically identify as a woman first. I don't think that's necessary to be a feminist, but I think it shows that more black women are questioning not making women's rights and issues their first priority.

Here is an oustanding black women and girls page:

Yes. People’s feminism is different, though. Just like being problack could be different for different people. Because their def some people that could be faking it. I don’t even consider myself a feminist, bc I don’t like labels and I do feel like it’s watered down. I’d probably consider myself a womanist first.

I agree, I’m a part of generation Z and I find feminism stupid. I’m for black Women first and foremost. I’m a womanist. Feminism is just a hobby for white women. Feminism just seems like a bunch spoiled white women complaining about how white men make more money than them...
Feminism was hijacked by white women.

There are less young radical feminist organizers today. However womanist & feminist thought is rapidly spreading to Black girls and women. @Isis Diamond

The future of radical feminism is in Black girls who are blooming into self-determined women bearing abundant fruit.

They just do. They create. Almost impulsively. It's beautiful to witness them not get paralyzed in analysis, defeat, hate or envy.

It's our role to teach them how to create community and lead effective campaigns. Organizing is not a natural skill though some people have a gift for it. I'm just excited seeing what they do even without the skills.

They have a divine sense of justice and the tidal wave they are forming will destroy more than just patriarchy.
This is beautiful Ms. Nana

More women have subscribed to feminism without the label

Basically. They know what they want and they know they have rights to their bodies and life choices.

I think “hardcore” feminism lost people because they juxtaposed it with so many external issues and xesual preferences as opposed to the right to make choices for your own benefit. Of course the weird militancy and policing that came up didn’t help if you were getting away from being prescribed how to be.

I think a lot of young black teens and women are feminist but don't claim the title. I was talk with my friend's little sister. She likes to interrogate me on famous legal cases and have me explain the court's opinion and its impact. She has a good grasp of various feminist theories and critical race theory (lol we ended up going down a rabbit hole). She said a lot of her friends discuss these ideas with her, and they always send each other articles, books, movies and youtube videos about subjects like that.

I do think it's sad that feminism which is literally advocating for women's rights on the basis of equality of the sexes has garnered such a negative connotation that a child who believes in equality and is so intelligent and confident in most other areas is self-conscious to claim the term.

As a Gen Z woman in my early 20s, I feel that young black women and girls are becoming a separate branch of feminism. We recognize that feminism is necessary but also recognize, like most other things in this country, that black people (in this case black women and girls) need a feminist movement focused solely on our particular group. We're not doing the footwork for mainstream feminist agendas just to be thrown crumbs in the end (because there is still an element of racism in mainstream feminism that results in black women going ignored) so I think a lot of us are taking on "black woman feminism" or "alternative feminism" for lack of a better term.

I don’t see how putting yourself first makes you a feminist. It just shows black girls are developing healthier self-esteem. You can be a homemaker or a CEO and put yourself first.

I don't think they're interested in learning the history of feminism or calling themselves feminist, which will cause some issues later on, but they do participate in feminism much more than previous generations.

I think the problem with feminism right now is that people shame 'xes positive' feminists and 'radical' feminists. Even the suffragettes were looked at as 'radicals' by other women. We need the radical feminists to advance the feminist cause as much as possible and I'll use a metaphor here: If you ask for a one dollar note, the opposition will give you 50 cents. If you ask for two dollars, they will give you one dollar. See where this is going?

I need women to realise that even if you dress moderately in a full niqab people will still objectify you, it's not about the clothes you wear it is inherently because you are a WOMAN.

There were plenty of Matriarchy's in history, that still continues today around the world. Those Matriarchy's have not caused global wide injustices and inequalities objectification murder etc for the men. Think of stupid stuff born out of the patriarchy, FGM, women discouraged from education, child marriages, femicide etc
Men are not 'leaders' because of how they were born, it is what society conditioned them to believe in.

Men and women both have strengths and weaknesses like the yin and the yang but it does not make sense to say only one of these forces is better than the other.

Support for marxist feminism/Egalitarianism is dead among young women. But Im seeing a lot of young women who are "womanist" in that they care more about supporting their own financial and personal interests even at the expense of a grander vision of deconstructing the patriarchy and achieving true gender egalitarianism. A commitment to ideology is dead with this generation.

I guess they are less Feminist and egalitarian and more self interested and self centred. I dont know if its a good thing or a bad thing. Many young women want to enjoy the fruits of the female empowerment movement whilst are questioning whether its a good thing to get rid all patriarchial and traditional expectations, since its useful when it comes to controlling men and putting men in a desirable but narrow box which benefits women in a hyper individualist capitalist world.
You guys really talk a lot of nonsense. You can’t be legit leaders. That’s just not your make up. You don’t want to respect men, you don’t want to be submissive to men and you don’t want to love men. Because of your innate nature, if you lack legit spirituality, you will always be negatively disposed to what a BM says. Many BW are becoming lesbians or they simply will pass from man to man if they are heterosexually active.

that makes me sad. I'm a millennial/gen-z cusp, and identify more as a womanist as well, but I do think many feminists have made great contributions and led the rights for legal equity. I think third-wave xes positive feminists and men alike have succeeded in demonizing second wave feminists who were truly trying to achieve radical change and bring equal rights, and watered feminism down to...Taylor Swift Stan wars.

I encourage you to look into the antipornagraphy ordinances in Minnesota, and the work of Andrea Dworkin and Catharine Mackinnon, as well as the history of the Equal Rights Amendment, and the coalition of Black, white, and Chicana women who moved that forward or tried desperately to. That helped color my understanding of feminism and how crucial it was for certain gains.
Many people would assume I am a feminist for many of my views/opinions and at one time in my life I did consider myself a feminist but then I realized how it was mainly centered on white women. I don’t agree with a lot of the new age feminist points of views and feel like they are counterproductive for black women, which is why I don’t consider myself one. I don’t doubt the impact feminism has had on women’s rights today. But I’m happy to see that black women are starting to put ourselves first and work towards our betterment instead of mulling for others. And many people also don’t know that womanism was created because black women were excluded from feminism and we were also one if not the last races of women to receive our right to vote.

The label has been vilified from the beginning, it was unequal when it was born and made too little progress over time and now it’s being co-opted by anti-choicers and misogynist TRAs. It’s definitely dying but womanism may see a rise in interest. Womanism has always been more inclusive.

More, for sure. If you actually talk to any gen z teen girls right now, you know they often talk about feminism related things on social media in their own way. People disregard it under general "cancel culture" but it's not that.

For one thing, that generation has the best idea of consent I've ever seen. They'll call a 20 year old college guy a predator for dating a 16 year old girl in high school. That did not happen when I was a teen in 2010s. "Pick me" is the worst thing you can be called as a girl right now, outside of the typical stuff. Which is a genius counter to the way they were starting to shame girls for being "prudes" and not buying into xes positivity at their own expense.

And that's not to say these girls are invulnerable. But they are generally very interested in feminist
ideas. The only expection would be girls from the Bible belt and similar communities.
yep

Mainstream “choice” feminism is dying because we can now see the horrible affects of it (xesual objectification/exploitation, young girls hopping on Only Fans as soon as they turn 18, making space in female areas for males aka the trans agenda etc.)

I see more young Gen Z leaning into radical feminism; less silly xes work, queer politics and more combating on femcide, female only community building and combating more pertinent issues women deal with.

This! Men have never really had a problem with mainstream feminism bc it serves them. It’s a lot of tenets of radical feminism that will the the catalyst to change the world for the better.

I feel like alot of young Black women start off being feminist and then end up being womenist. Feminism doesn't include Black women majority of the time so that's why Black women created womenist. I can totally see the womenist movement being co-opted when alot of Black women start speaking about it and actually participating in it.
Agreed, I consider myself to be a womanist.

Yep I think this trend and wave of feminism w younger people is less ab the label and flushing out equality in more ways than before, and more ab calling out make behavior and stuff that was seen as acceptable even 10 years ago

Real feminism encourages your right to make that choice.
@Bubblyflute is mad that I’d prefer being barefoot and pregnant. Lol. I actually have a career and only one child but in general I’m not here for anything a man can do a woman can do better when it’s completely ridiculous lol. I’m not trying to be equal to my husband in every situation and Vice versa.
