Does anyone else feel like they weren't prepared for college?

I graduated college already but looking back, I realize how ill prepared I was for it. And by not prepared I mean in all aspects. I wasn't ready for the workload, balancing school with a job, making friends, dating...I wasn't prepared for anything and I made little to no effort preparing myself unfortunately. Do you feel the same way?

Nope. Didn't take much preparation to understand if I didn't understand the material enough to pass tests and make time to complete my homework I wasn't going to pass my classes. How did 12 years of schooling not prepare you for that when that's literally all school is?

And I'm not being snotty, this isn't a rhetorical question - I'm legit asking what would you rather have schools, or your parents, have done specifically in order to prepare you for schooling in college?

I failed all of my classes my first semester because I wasn’t prepared.

I was not prepared when I first got to college. I took a year off after high school and just as I went into college, I remember being easily intimidated by most people understanding the material so easily. Mentally, I was not tuned in. Distractions left and right. It wasn't the experience I was hoping it would be. Not that I'm not smart, but it just wasn't the ideal experience. I actually did ok during English and Computer class, because those were where some of my biggest strengths lie. I had become so discouraged and frustrated with myself that I gave up not long after the Spring semester of my 1st year started.

Through all the education I've ever received, I've learned two major things. 1) I learn best in a very small setting, or individually. And 2) When education is geared towards things I'm actually interested in, I'm more tuned-in and inclined to put forth more effort. If college had been more like this, instead of forcing people to take classes in things that have nothing to do with their interests, then I think myself and so many other people would've had more positive college experiences, overall.

Nobody is “prepared” for college in my opinion, but that’s apart of the experience.

Being thrust into new territory and weathering new storms builds character.

It was definitely hard to strike that balance. Typically, people go from living under their parent's roof, having a set of expectations, and school scheduled every day to suddenly...they can do whatever they want.

Looking back, I was not prepared for college at all. I didn't take advantage of the services provided because I had no clue with what I was doing. It was a crazy adjustment.

i wasn't prepared for adulthood lmao, so therefore i wasn't ready for college. i feel like i wasn't given the right tools to be prepared for something like college by my parents or my teachers. everyone told me "you gotta study hard" but nobody told me HOW to study. like how to physically sit down and study and the correct study techniques etc.everyone told me at 16 i had to know what i wanted to do for LIFE and a DEGREE and i just had no idea. i rushed into what i liked.. now i dont like it anymore

Same here. But I also put too much pressure on myself to figure things out on my own and I had too much anxiety around asking people questions. I was a mess lol.

Same here. I mean my parents tried but there was still a lot more I had to learn on my own. I really struggled.

Looking back I was nowhere near ready. When I went back for my masters at 26 I was in a totally different place mentally. I was very much a child during my undergrad

Looking back and thinking about what I know now, I was not prepared for college at all (besides being academically capable). Thankfully, my natural curiosity allowed me to learn a lot of information about managing college quickly so it wasn't too bad for too long, but I do wish my high school or even orientation had prepared me better about what I was truly getting into.
