I’m happy she addressed the mental health component that often comes with overeating and obesity. Going this route, seeking psychiatric help to get to the bottom of things and then losing the weight is really the only way for the changes to be permanent. Switching to a eating to live from a living to eat lifestyle is such a tremendous change.

I hope she has ongoing support, even though she’s physically svelte now, the battle of the bulge will still be there mentally. Having someone to talk you through impulses, especially in stressful times is so very very important.

Yes. Also, the US now has been vanity sizing for at least 3 decades. A US size 10 today would have likely been a a US size 14 in 1970.
That explains a lot, I have a skirt from the early 2000s that's 3 times bigger than the size I buy now, but it still fits. I thought the skirt shrank. lol

Sizing has always been so weird to me.. when the US began doing standard clothing sizes in the 1940's, women's sizes started at 8, which would be the modern equivalent to a 0.

"In 1958, for example, a size 8 corresponded with a bust of 31 inches, a waist of 23.5 inches and a hip girth of 32.5 inches. In ASTM’s 2008 standards, a size 8 had increased by five to six inches in each of those three measurements, becoming the rough equivalent of a size 14 or 16 in 1958. We can see size inflation happening over shorter time spans as well; a size 2 in the 2011 ASTM standard falls between a 1995 standard size 4 and 6."

Source (interesting read): When — And Why — We Started Measuring Women's Clothing

Personally I think it makes sense to start from 0 rather than a random ass 8.

Wonderful! I did not read about her making excuses, PCOS, being big boned and all of that foolishness.

She did the hard work and received the right results. Imagine that.

PCOS does make it really hard to lose weight tho :(

Hormones and mental health are BIG parts of the picture that CICO misses. Not saying they should be excuses and you can work with them, but to discredit their effects on a weight loss journey does us a disservice, imho.

Since when is 180 lbs a size 6? It’s 50 pounds heavier than I am and I’m a 4-6. I’m a bit stunned here.

She looks amazing though. Such amazing work! She looks like she weighs less than 180 but maybe it’s muscle.
Definitely muscle as she looks lean. I’m about 40lbs lighter and also a size 6

Having pcos is no excuse to overeat. You even said it should not be used as an excuse.
But it is what fat women use as their go to reason....before they consume 3,000 calories for dinner.

Well, I guess I'll just agree to disagree here...there's so many things that can trigger overeating, like leptin resistance, high cortisol levels from androgen imbalance, etc. Idk, I just think it's not always cut and dry. No one overeats cuz they want to.

She looks great. I actually thought the first pic was the before and the second was the after.

I didn't realize a size 10 was so small. Media would have you believing a 10 is plus sized.

I think it depends on each person. Oprah's size US 10 is like someone else's size US 2 or 4. Some women may not look as good at a size US 10 and may look fat.

She looks good for someone who lost so much weight in such a short amount of time. I’m graduating this fall, so I’m trying to get back in shape myself.

Height has to do with it. She may be taller than you, so that weight is distributed differently.

In the UK, size 10 is average. UK size 10 is a size 6 in the US.

Edit: I just realised that a million people already said this before me. And I thought I was doing something, being all smart and sh!t

Why is it that when people loose a lot of weight, they tend to look much older and a little gaunt?

She looks great, but also looks like she's aged 10 years at the same time.

Edit: Not sure about the skeptical
Yes, its great she's healthier and lost weight but she looks gaunt and old. Almost looks like she's lost the life in her.

Does this apply to black women as well?

UK size 10 is US size 6. She also lost a a lot of body fat. A size 6 can look different depending on a person's body comp fat to muscle ratio and height. She looks amazing tho.

Congrats to this young lady! Most folks gained weight during lockdown (me included). I’m trying to get back down so this is so inspiring!

Yeah the extra skin can do this.

A lot of people get diagnosed with PCOS when they simply dont have it. It can also be prevented or reversed in some cases with a healthy diet. I genuinely think it's mostly used as an excuse to be fat or a cop-out for doctors because the symptoms are common but the actual condition itself is not.

@SuccessfullyMe I dunno why you're getting salty when my post wasn't correcting you about the UK/ US dress sizing. It's addressing another truth -- two women wearing the same dress size could look completely different, one could look leaner and smaller while another could look chunky or fat. Oprah looks lean wearing a US 10 dress size while another woman may look fat depending on her height and fat/muscle ratio.
