How do you keep it from getting tangled or dry during the warmer Spring/Summer months. What's your nightly routine?

And keep it nice looking for examples

I usually use hard gels so that the crunch maintains my hair longer as I wear my WnGS for usually 5 days but during the summer I wash my hair more. I re wet my hair when I notice it is starting to get very frizzy but I do try to avoid applying more product unless I am changing my style. I just wear my headscarf at night. I use serums in the summer for my ends. In the winter I don’t as I usually layer my WnGS in the winter.

Twisting or braiding hair at night is essential! After washing my hair I use a leave in conditioner then twist my hair at night. In the morning I take the twist or braids down and pluck it to my desired style.

At night my hair looks something like this (this isn't me in this picture).

Frequent washing (usually every 3-4 days) and lots of gel for hold. If I go longer then that there’s a higher likelihood of tangles. Since the weather is warmer I don’t have to worry about long drying times like I do in the winter.

I am deeply committed to braid outs and pineapple at night. I wash my hair every 3-7 days depending on how I feel or boredom. The more I keep my hands out of my hair the less tangles I have. Also stronger gels will keep the curls in place (and also release well over time due to moisture and humidity in the air, showers, etc) by day 2-3 my braid outs look like wash n go’s. Two days of that and I know it’s time to wash again

I noticed the biggest changes when I started washing my hair more often.i used to be every other week, but now I wash about every 5-7 days. That sets the stage for hydrating my hair. I usually wear WNGs and honestly never have tangling or matting. I sleep in a buff or bonnet and just shake my hair in the morning and go.

Also make sure your hair is kept up with the trims too. Don't hold on to dead ends.

I usually re-moisturize and re-twist every 2-3 days. On the days I don't do that, I usually just pineapple it and fluff in the mornings.

I think it’s best to do protective styles in the summer. It’s humid you’re hair is going to poof up. Get braids or twist.

I am thinking about braids right now because I like washing my hair but I just learned how to do a wash n go but it is tedious and I can't see me putting all these products in my hair all the time. Good ol braids it's gonna be.

I wash it ever 4 days. I use lots of conditioner. I sleep with it in a loose puff or two puffs and wear a bonnet. I fluff and shape with oil and curl refresher in the morning.

Wash every 5ish days. I do mini pineapples at night. I don't apply anything to my hair between washes unless I decide to pull it up into puff.

I wash once a week and do a wash and go with a decent hold gel. If I get sweaty though, I'll wash sooner as needed. The gel holds my hair enough that it doesn't tangle. I don't pick it out or anything. I just let the cast break over the course of the week. I use Uncle Funky's gel for moisture, since it's a humectant. Then I throw a stronger hold gel over top to prevent frizz and tangles. I wear a satin bonnet at night and finger fluff in the morning.

A question for everyone that uses gel:
How Do You All Stop Flaking?

It seems to usually come down to

1) using too much gel. Go easier on it
2) Bad pairing with the leave-in/gel the person used. Don't pair them again
3) A gel that just flakes too much. Use a different gel.

It's all trial and error.

Do your WNGs on soaking wet hair. Like water dripping down your neck an everywhere soaking wet. Also, are you applying a creamy leave in underneath your gel? The products might not be playing well together. I use an humectant gel and then top it with a stronger hold gel to give a good cast.

When trying out new products, I'll usually mix them together on the top of my hands to see how they will pair together. If they clump or don't mix well, I don't use them together. I also use plenty of water before applying the gel, and make sure not to use too much.

So you're only using gel on your hair, instead of a creamy product or leave in? How does your hair feel once it's dry?

I've heard about that gel I'll try it out. can you use a light oil or butter on top instead of a creamy product?
What would you be trying to accomplish with the butter or oil? I don't use straight up butters/oils or creamy products in my regimen because they don't provide hold, and they keep your hair from being hydrated. If hold and longevity is your objective for your WNG, use the humectant gel as your base and then you top it with a stronger gel that will block out humidity.

I pineapple my hair at night and fluff it when I wake up in the morning.

I have 4b/4c hair and I've come to the realization that my hair will never be 100% tangle free. I remove the big knots during my weekly washes and go about my life the rest of the time. My hair is usually in braidouts which keeps it stretched.
