Would you recommend wigs as a good PS for retaining length?

I think so. I got my hair cut 4 months ago (about 4") and it's back at the length it was. I think the only thing to worry about is possible edge loss depending on how you wear wigs.

Yeah I went from shoulder to mid back length wearing wigs but it's all about how well you take care of your hair.

Yeah I've been wearing this new wig that I love but I just realized my edges are taking a beating so I'm not sure what the next move is cos cornrows + a wig were my go-to smh.

Yes, please tell us what you did to grow past shoulder length with wigs.

I haven't had a relaxer since May and I have been wearing a wig since May. Yesterday I picked out my natural hair and notice growth, I'm getting my hair trimmed this weekend. I like wearing wigs, and I don't use the combs, so my edges aren't being damaged. You should be okay long as you don't constantly use tight wig combs, I use the back strap and bobbi pins to keep my wig secured.

As long as you're taking care of your hair underneath, then sure...I wore wigs when I BC'd and the only manipulation on my hair was washing and putting it in cornrows once a week....I used a spray bottle during the week whenever my hair felt dry....I stopped wearing wigs when I noticed the effect on my edges, so definitely keep an eye out on that....

Those combs hurt. Idk how ppl do it. I don't need them, my wig fits perfectly without it. How long do you keep your wigs?

When you say wash do you mean co-washing, or the full shampoo, cond, and DC?

I recommend it definitely.

I have done this off and on. I had my final big chop (I've big chopped multiple times), sometime in 2013. When I big chopped, I had not even a snap of hair so all my hair is pure growth since then.

I've wigged it most of that time with a 6 month exception. I've finally stopped wearing my wig and started wearing my real hair because it is long enough to pin back in a nice style.

Yes but remember to detangle wash, and condition hair though. You can get so use to putting on wigs that you neglect your real hair and it could mat up or start locking and that's not fun.

Low manipulation styles are always good for hair growth and length retention.

Not long about 3 weeks since they are synthetic and cost less than $40, I tried washing it but didn't look good. I just order it again., the company I used always give a discount since I keep coming back. I use Locobeauty.com

and like the others pointed out I do wash and condition, comb out my hair every week.

Don't buy wigs with combs they rip out your edges. Try Kinky straight hair if you want the long look. But I recommend using curly wigs, especially if you wanna leave your hair out, it gives you the chance to moisturize your hair. My hair was at the bottom of my of my nose, now its at the bottom of my collar bone, I transitioned. Oh and make sure you are getting oxygen to your scalp.

I mean the full shampoo, conditioner, and DC.....I only started co-washing once I was done with wigs and started wearing my hair out
