What it do alleycats? I am getting a pixie cut and I'm really excited and nervous. My hair has been long my whole life and it's going to be bitter sweet, but hair grows back. I'm a but nervous because I have full lips and I'm dark skinned, and growing up people told me the combination was not a good look, but I'm letting that go and stepping into a new me! My mom and aunts are pissed because I've had ling hair my whole life and people have always fawned over it. It's like they saw my hair, but not me and I having it shorter will force me to be an even badder b!tch.

I have a few questions,

1. Do you need your hair relaxed to be able to mold it

2. How is the maintenance process

3. Do you also wear wigs when feeling lazy

4. How did you and people around you feel about the cut

A few inspirations

IMO pixies are more maintenance...touch ups, frequent trips to the salon, etc. I wore finger waves and curls so I was relaxed. I wore it until I was ready to grow it out so I wore wigs, then braids once my hair was long enough.

Have you tried a pixie wig to get an idea of how it would look?

I wore my hair short and have had every haircut imaginable. I think I look better with short hair imo but whatever.

What's your face shape, do you have a big head/forehead?

I think pixie's just increase a woman's sexiness.

How long is your hair now?

I never wore wigs or weaves, I was bomb with the curling irons (I hate flat irons) but this was a while back. I always got the best curling irons from like dollar general or family dollar, it was a pack of three. Perfect sizes for pixies.

Essentials: foam or molding product, an oil that you could use every other day, and a doo-rag or those little wrap bands with the velcro.

You're probably gonna think I'm crazy, but I'm going all in. I have a few styles picked out, but my stylist is skilled beyond measures so I'll let her have the final say

I don't have a big forehead, but people live when my friends love when my hair is pulled back. My hair is to my back, about bra strap length.

Heyyyy! I just returned to my pixie cut recently after 8 years. I love it because it brings out my cheekbones and heart shaped face. I do require a relaxer every 3-4 weeks on my back and sides. Maintenance is easy cuz I can wrap and go. A good cut will give you flexibility. I haven't used wigs for variety but I imagine they would spice it up when I wanna change my look. Have you tired on a pixie wig to see if you like it??

Quick question, I've been natural for ten years and I really love the short, molded look. Would I have to get a relaxer to able to mold it?

It depends on your hair texture. I needed one, after being natural for 8 yrs. Have you had a consultation with your stylist yet?

Okay.
If this is your first pixie, I suggest find your signature style. Like a go to that you can maintain.

Wax is good for tapered sides and such and curling.

When I used wax when curling my hair, the style looked good for days afterwards.

No, you don’t need a relaxer. I don’t know what your texture is, but there are many videos on YouTube of natural ladies with various curl types styling their pixie cut. All you’d need is the appropriate styling product (e.g gel or mousse). Here’s an example

I cut my hair four weeks ago and can't believe how much its grown already. I don't mind the maintenance as it's easier than long hair. I now know what a wash and go really is.

What leave in conditioners/moisturisers do you ladies use and do you need a styling cream on top?

I rocked a pixie for about 6 years, then I went to a baldy/fade. I love short hair on me, it took a minute for me to learn how to curl it, but the style brings out my features better than any style I have had.

Long hair makes me look old. I have a headshape similar to Kelly Rowland/Halle Berry.

I wore a pixie cut on/off for the last 6 years. I loved it. Super low maintenance. I had it cut when my fifth baby was maybe four months old and I wanted to do another BC and not bother with my hair for a while. But then it just became easier to deal with when I was struggling with hair loss due to low thyroid.

This was when I first had it cut and I went platinum and silver/grey. Loved this color and I had so much fun playing with fantasy colors. I didn’t do anything special. I just used my normal products and pomade to keep my curls tight.

I dont currently have a pixie but I used to have my hair cut in one on and off over the years. It was awesome. People would stop and compliment me all the time. My hair ALWAYS looked good. It was super feminine.

The cons though...I had to relax my hair every 5 to 6 weeks to make sure it looked fresh (I have fast growing hair). This ended up costing so much for maintenance. As well, I couldn't wash my hair by myself because I couldn't style it at that length, so I had to go to the salon even for wash days. So...it was an expensive but beautiful hairstyle.

I had a pixie for 4 years or so. High maintenance for sure and $$$. You will learn how to sleep 'cute', on your hands. Do not tie your entire head down at night b/c it flattens the style and changes the shape but you can tie around your edges. I liked when the cuts would mimic white boy hairstyles.

Relaxing is a must I think. Get a wax stick (TGI bedhead) for edges. You must go a stylist that can give you a good cut and continue to go to that sylist for a cut. Once the base cut is decent, you can curl your hair in small tight curls and mess it up with your fingers for messy look.

It was fly as hell but too much work for me.

yes, unfortunately my hair required a relaxer for upkeep of this style. I thought I could do it without the relaxer but got hit with a reality check quickly. It was much higher maintenance than I expected it to be. I never used wigs, if I was having a bad hair day I just wore a hat and if I had to be somewhere I just sucked it up and styled my hair for the day.

For me, I found it to be a lot more expensive because I had to pay for cuts more often, because the style will start to lose its shape as it grows out. That In addition to paying for the relaxer application. Then I had to find the world's smallest curing irons to style and maintain on my own. which was a daily process. I couldn't wake up and look like the young lady in the photo lol..idk why I thought I would. My crazy ass...

BUT

I have to say It was honestly a period of time where it felt like I got thee most attention from men. That was yearssss ago, but now I have a TWA and I'm noticing the same. There's an unexplained confidence that comes with short hair.

I feel beautiful with it and I was nervous about losing my confidence because I'm so used to having longish hair. I don't leave the house without lashes, brows and lipstick.
