How many classes is TOO MUCH in undergrad for summer? This is very general and not going into specifics question.

Summer semester is 12 weeks.

Part time job is around 20 hours week, or slightly less.

Assume each class is 4 credits.

Depends on the class, professor, and workload. But my summer classes are usually 8 weeks and I only take 4 credits that include a lab. That’s plenty stress for me.

depends on what type of student you are. are you a hard worker? do you need a lot of sleep? is the class extremely hard and important to your major? will a bad grade really bring down your gpa?

this is were the critical thinking that one is suppose to learn in college comes into play...you don't want to just finish college. you want to finish college with a higher level intellect.

how intense the classes are matter... more than one reading-heavy course may not be feasible, nor will classes with lab or TA sessions. I'd say you could take 3-4 classes but 2-3 would have to be easy electives (if you want an easy A).

see how flexible your job is, too. See if you can work fewer days for more hours and lock that schedule in for the rest of the semester so it'll be a routine.

I never took more than two classes during a summer session. I also tried to take classes that didn't require too much on my part since they only lasted a few weeks.

No more than 3. If it's split summer semester then do one the first part of the summer and if it was manageable do 2 the other part. OR just take the super easy classes in the summer (your electives).

How are your summer sessions split? Mine are offered in halves and a whole. Taking 2 during one half seems like the max. The reduced session length forces the class to meet for longer hours and more days. And since things are going to be online (for most folks) instructors might require a sh!t ton of reading and longer written assignments to avoid the synchronous format.

If your session is throughout the "whole" summer then 3 classes should be doable.

I can only take 2 classes since our summer sessions are split up into 6 weeks. If I had 12 week sessions I would do at least 3.

There are MANY factors that make a summer semester.

Motivation
Course content
Professor
Communication
Student Camaraderie
Resources

When I take the summer semester I take 3 courses max. That is difficult but doable. I worked 20 ish hours with that.

Note that I'm an IT major, so "hard" is relative. I try to do a 2:1 ratio of hard to easy classes. If you have some core classes you want to get over with then summer is a good time for that. I've taken major course requirements also ad didn't die, though it was HARD.

I had to drop down to half time this semester because four classes were just too much to manage with me also working full time. Even with three, I’m still struggling with time management. For the summer, I’ll probably only take two classes but I’m not sure because I’ll be in drivers Ed.

Classes are much shorter and you don’t want to take on more than you can handle. You might want free time along with work.

Girl I work a full-time job and I'm in school full time and I'll be taking 12 credits this summer semester, but the summer the semester I'm doing 2 classes for Summer A and 2 classes for summer B. I'm trying to finish school quick because I need a better paying job. My last degree, Bachelors Degree in Health Science, was the most worthless degree I've ever done. Sorry y'all for ranting I'm so pissed at my 20 year old self for making bad decisions SMH!
