Good Morning,

I have fine natural hair that’s kind of patchy in some spots that I would like to grow in. A lot of the advice given says to use Castor Oil but as someone with Seborrheic Dermatitis I was under the impression that oil can cause flare ups. What’s a safe product to use to encourage growth?

Peppermint oil has been shown to encourage hair growth. Overall though, from what I've observed, the key is to get the dermatitis under control and keep it that way. Keep the area washed and free of flakes and moisturized. The hair usually grows back in.

Castor oil is antifungal and anti microbial. Using that and selsun blue and washing my hair every few days and drying immediately after washing got rid of my sebderm.

I am still trying to find a way to deal with my SB WITHOUT the use of harsh shampoos. I used Nizoral and it worked but I want to go back to something that wasnt about to absorb into my bloodstream and increase my risk of cancer or illness. So I went back to using African Black soap shampoos with essential oils and nothing seems to work. I am really beginning to think I need to change my diet and thats the hardest part of all. :cry

I rub pure tea tree oil/argan oil mix onto my scalp before taking an afro pic and combing the scales out. Then, I use Nizoral shampoo (two times a week) to clear it all. I also take capryllic acid tablets--it works to lessen fungi in the body. It's really helpful.

After two months, you can use Nizoral as needed. [I fell off the wagon and had to restart this journey so I'm back to 2x weekly].

To your point about oil, I wash the oil off. I do not oil my scalp and let it sit there. For me, it's been a no no
