Third Olympics are rare for gymnasts plus Aly will be considered old by then (she'll be 26 by the time Tokyo 2020 happens).

Aly Raisman, a two-time Olympian and captain of the 2016 U.S. Olympic Women’s Gymnastics Team, has announced that she has her sights set on a third trip to the Olympic Games.

During an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Raisman shared that she intends to take a year off, then will return to training with a goal of competing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

A two-time Olympic champion in the women’s team event with the Fierce Five (2012) and Final Five (2016), Raisman also won gold on floor exercise at the London 2012 Olympic Games. She claimed silvers in all-around and floor in Rio and bronze on balance beam in London.

The 22-year-old’s six Olympic medals stand only behind Shannon Miller’s seven among U.S. gymnasts.

“I thought I was in the best shape of my life in 2012, but it’s even better now,” Raisman told DeGeneres. “I’m excited to see what can happen in 2020.”

Raisman is hoping to become the first U.S. women’s gymnast since Dominique Dawes to compete in three consecutive Games. ( :disdain: ) Dawes won team bronze medals in 1992 and 2000 and was part of the “Magnificent Seven” that won team gold at the Atlanta 1996 Olympic Games, where she also won a bronze medal on floor exercise. Only two other U.S. women have competed in three Olympic Games: Muriel Grossfeld (1956-64) and Linda Metheny-Mulvihill (1964-72).

This chick is a snake. She's planning on riding the other teammates wave to make a name for herself like she did the last two. I hope Biles wisened up by then.

Aly is a shady, mediocre troll.

i doubt she would make the team considering the depth that US has plus the # of team members for 2020 olympics being reduced to only 4.

It depends on who the next coordinator is and what she has to offer in the coming competitions; that goes for the other girls as well. There is no doubt in my mind that she will make the national team again, but the olympics is a crap shoot. Marta chose the girls based on consistency overall as well as strength in individual events(especially those most on the team are weak in) and who she liked personally. This new coach might take whoever makes the top 4 at trials, we'll just have to wait and see.

Quiet as its kept Gabby IS coming back. She wants to pursue another national championship and a shot at Tokyo. She has BIG/Influential people behind her now and there is NO chance she will be rattled again like in RIO. Simone will pursue Tokyo again but has doubts she can repeat her success. Her family believes she should go out on top, hence the book.

Aly heard and wanted to get ahead of the message but she knows its over for her.

I believe she will she hasn't made any public announcements regarding retirement...She's busy handling other ordeals...But I want her to come back stronger and more consistent like she was earlier this year..When Gabby is on her A game it's really 1-2 Simone and Gabby as top two AA as we saw at World's last year.

She has a lot of haters and her competing and looking good in competition will only make them seethe more and I will be HERE for it.

Only 4 gymnast will be on the Olympic team now. Everybody can say goodbye to the specialists now because you are going to need 4 all around gymnast that can have high scores on the beam, uneven bars, floor, & vault. Aly is weak on uneven bars & beam. Aly has a mediocre vault and the only thing that she has for her is the floor routine.
Baby when I tell you Aly has some of the weakest uneven bars scores.

Good for Aly. It's possible. But on an American team, it may be hard to go back. That gymnast from the Ukraine is 41 and this was her 7th or 9th Olympics.

Nothing worse then a jealous white hoe. You would think since she considers herself the mom of the Olympic team that she would allow those who are younger than her to shine.

I doubt Aly makes the team again in 2020. There is only 4 spots. But we will see. Simone is on the top of her game and she will be back for the Tokyo Olympics. Laurie has plans of trying for 2020 as well.

She won't make it. Even if she does keep up her level, her form will keep her off the team. Flexed feet and bent legs won't make it when all 4 gymnasts have to be great.

I actually don't see Simone coming back in 2020. She apparently wants to be a doctor, so she would need to start going to school (after taking a couple of years to reap the Olympic benefits). Competing elite and going to college full-time is not realistic - I haven't known of a gymnast who managed to do it successfully. I'm sure Simone wants to enjoy her college experience, too. She's sacrificed so much of her life for this sport already, and there is no denying that she's the best. She has the medals to prove it.

Gabby isn't in college right now, and I can see her coming back for the 2017 or 2018 Worlds, but 2020 isn't realistic for her. She'd be 25 then, and she is already injury prone. She should go to college and pursue her career. I think she wants to be an actress.

Aly wouldn't have a chance to come back for AA, she's too old and her form is better than 2012 but still not great. In 2020 the U.S. can send two specialists in addition to the 4 person team. Aly would be fighting for one of those spots (floor). If Simone came back, she would do AA. Same with Laurie, she wants that AA medal. If Gabby decided she wanted to come back, I'm positive she would be a specialist (bars). Her beam, floor, and vault scores aren't high enough to make all the extra training worth it.

I like Aly for the most part and would like to see her return. Returning to Olympic Level in gymnastics at 26 would be quite a story and accomplishment.

If she wants to be a doctor, she doesn't have to go into college immediately. Im sure it will be socially acceptable to push of her medical school aspirations for four more years to pursue an Olympic medal. She can always go to school and get her degree, but she won't always be able to compete in the olympics.
