I'm looking into getting a chemical peel on my body for some acne scarring but I'm a little nervous about it. I don't know how my skin will react to it. If you've ever done it, how did your skin react to it? I want to get it done professionally also. I don't trust myself to do it lol

Ima pull up a chair too.

I got a facial for the first time a few months ago. And I'm pretty sure she gave me a chemical peel...or maybe a chemical exfoliation? I really don't know. I just remember there was a burning (yet bearable) feeling while it was on my face.

Anyway I'ma hang out bc I have some acne scarring and want that sh*t gone yesterday.

Try a glycolic acid peel. Not harsh, cleanses upper layer of skin, no burning.

Depends on which one you get.

No it is not true that chemical peels aren't for black people. Who is the they @Honey4 ... have you actually seen a black derm? A real one not a random article online?

My derm gave them to me. It personally depends on the strength and type of peel.

I got a peel over Thanksgiving, Derma Perfect Peel from my Esti. I peeled like a snake and LOVED the results.

The only day that was a bit uncomfortable was the 2nd day, itchy. But I didn't scratch, I just laid a tissue over my face and rubbed or tapped the areas. Kept my face moisturized with Eucerine.

days 3-5 I just splashed my face with water, moisturized and the skin continued to peel.

By day 7 it was all done.

I had a series of glycolic acid peels which were very successful.
-application was swift and I felt a slight burning sensation the first 2 times
-removal process was swift
-wearing sunscreen post-peel is a must
-the day after, skin looked nearly normal
-2 days after skin looked horrible (think crusted over) discolored
-4 days later it looked like I had a new layer of skin sans smile lines...all of the little spots of discoloration that I had before the peel were noticeably lighter.
-went thru the horrible appearance 2 days post peel after each session.
-4 days after the 4th peel, any spots of discoloration I had before the peels as well as a small mole or two were basically gone

I have never heard that they weren’t for Black people either. To my knowledge, they’re safe for all of our shades

I've heard from other women that they will put a salve on your face post peel at the doctor's office and that is supposedly supposed to help?

Yes. It is extremely soothing but it didn’t help me very much with the post-peel ugly phase. I will tell you that I’ve known others who say the salve helped with soothing as well as appearance and I’m also going to admit that with my skin tone, even the slightest disruption will look extremely pronounced.

I've gotten a glycolic peel, which is superficial. I didn't peel that much and it was very light and flaky. I've gotten about five medium depth peels over the past four years. Those made me peel a lot, the top layer comes clean off. At first, the skin feels very tight. Within 2-3 days, the peeling starts around the mouth and chin area. My face feels very itchy, so it's a must to keep the skin lubricated with anti-itch cream or Aquafor. The peels I used were the VI Peel with Precision Plus.

Not to be that person but OP asked about body peels and yet everyone is talking about their facial peels.

I'd also like to know about body peels if anyone has had it done.

not for acne but for some serious bruises and scars I got playing rugby and the hyperpigmentation that comes after with those injuries on my shins. I did the TCA peel for Muac (12.5) I believe. It was not too scary, the peeling was kinda gross but it helped with the pigmentation and scarring (some are fully gone and the others have faded). Don't forget hydrocortisone and sunscreen post peel and well sunscreen daily. I use the fade peel for maintenance every other month and mandelic whenever i remember.

We slow AF around here! Lol

I damn sure missed the ‘body’ part

come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone get a body peel. Ive used chemical exfoliate- like the one from MUAC

The skin in your body is different to the one in your face, you should only use products made for the body. If you have never used chemical peels start slowly and build up or go to a professional .

Back in my younger day I came up with the brilliant idea to use a strong peel on my neck, because hey i was already doing it in my face.

My neck was raw for a week. Don't be stupid like me.

For body right now I am using First Aid beauty AHA exfoliation, recommended by the lady at Ulta. Seeing a lil difference a week in. I also apply dark spot treatment to the body scars.

I second this. I’ve gotten a few VI Peels done several times after success of the first one. Long-standing results, poreless skin, even skin tone, not a blemish in sight.

Op, if you choose to get this, stay home and sunless for 4-5 days, your face will be gnarly. Sleep with a satin pillow too so you don’t risk your peeling skin to accidentally rip off overnight. Very fine layer that is peeled off but an effective difference for the better. Invest in a great vitamin C serum once your peel has concluded.

I had a SkinMedica vitalize peel done. The burning was mild while it was being applied. The heavy peeling started 2 days later and lasted about 3 days. I didn’t leave the house. I liked the results of smooth new skin. It faded my hyperpigmentation.

Does the scarring reappear after awhile? How long does tis last? Im not familiar with the process.

Thanks for reply. Do you have to use their skincare or can you use your own regimen? Did your texture improve?

It was def worth it for me and the results last along as you are consistent with your skincare

their skincare is just to use during the peel. But you can also use your own, like a gentle cleanser and a really good thick moisturizer.

Texture improved slightly, but I didn't have issues to begin with. I manly used the peel for some hyperpigmentation and that got gone within a month of using the peel and skincare products

I peel all year. Last week I got a Gloss peel. My skin always feels super soft after a peel. My dark spots are lighter.

actually I get professional peels every two monthsat the dermatologist office.

no scarring as long as you don’t peel off the skin.

I had 2 or 3 professional salicylic peels a few years ago. My skin looked amazing but they were about 200$ a session so i gave it up.
