Found a young pregnant cat who's been coming around wanting food (I've been giving her some) who's obviously pregnant (big belly and protruding nipples). She's very friendly, it looks like some POS threw her out.

I'm not sure I should do (I've only had tom cats)! I'm definitely getting her spayed, but I'm not sure how that would affect her pregnancy. Is abortion possible? Has anyone had experience with this situation? If so, what did you do?

You want to keep her?

Abortion is an option I think but I think if you can handle it you should let them live and start looking for new homes now then spay her

idk if I’m soft or what but I feel the cat will be depressed or something if you kill her babies cats are so maternal I’m sure she knows she’s pregnant

Oh yes, I saw a video about it on the Kitten Lady's Channel on Youtube.

Spaying the cat while she is knocked up is an automatic abortion....that's all it is.

Me personally I would just wait until after she gave birth unless she has some condition that could kill her if she carried them to term.

Kittens are easy to find homes for. Everyone wants kittens. So I would just find them homes afterwards and keep the mother.

The SPCA in your area can help with low cost spay/neuter/vaccine information.

Heavily considering it! But I'm not sure I can support more than 1 let alone an entire litter. Honestly I'm on the fence about aborting, she kinda looks like she's ready to pop! I don't want to hurt her, but I don't want to be irresponsible and contribute to overpopulation of stray cats.

No don't do the abortion...... just bring her to pet smart. On Saturdays, if they adopt out kittens they usually have a bunch of no kill shelters running a adoption fair. Now they may not be having that event due to Covid, but they can usually get you in touch with organizations that specialize in helping cats. They will make sure that the kittens are spayed or neutered before they adopt them out so you are not adding to much to the problem and stopping the cycle with them.

But whatever you do DONT Bring them to the humane society! They might put them to sleep right off the bat!

Someone will want them, trust me.

Just make sure its a no kill organization.

Let her have the babies and then give them away when they are born. Then keep her.

Honestly cats creep me out.

Don't abort those kittens. Let the mama have them and nurse them. When they can be adopted give them to a shelter. Make a little nesting area close to where you feed her or if you want bring her inside and let her give birth. And talk to the local shelters about when they can accept the kittens.

Aw please don’t do an abortion as someone else said kittens are Easy to give/sell.. you may be able to contact a local animal shelter and tell them your situation. Maybe you can have them list the kittens once they are born and you simply foster them until their adopted .. they usually pay for expenses while you are fostering

Aww this thread broke my heart. I have a cat, and honestly they are the most grateful amazing animals.

It sounds like she is heavily pregnant and far along to abort the babies, and even if it was possible at this stage, she might be depress for life. Cat mommies are very maternal.

Shelter her in, and spay her after she gives birth and start looking for a no kill adoption shelter for her kittens right away. Kittens get adopted fast so they will find a home.

My cat was also part of a litter when my brother brought her home from his friend’s house.

They always say it’s good to let female cats have one litter before having her spayed. To be on the safe side, I’d let her have the kittens. If I wasn’t allergic I would take one. I love them so much.

I think, if you let her give birth, you may need to keep the kittens until they are weaned. It can eff up kittens to take them from their mom too soon, and then whoever you give them to would have to bottle feed them. If you have a laundry room or something, just let her give birth in there and let the kittens nurse for 3-4 weeks.

Editing to add: bless you for taking this cat in, seriously! I am a cat lover. You are so kind to do that.

let her have em then spay her. you won't even notice the kittens for a while since she'll be nursing and newborn kittens are not too much work. Lots of families are getting animals because of the quarantines. good luck! and enjoy it but be strong... when the time comes you'll understand lol

Okay, I've read all your comments and I appreciate it! I'm definitely NOT doing the abortion (I think it's maybe too late anyways). Contacting a local shelter is my next step and I'll see what happens from there, thanks!

Yes, please don't abort-it's too late anyway-that only is when you can't tell they're pregnant and it happens when you have them spayed.
This is our second pregnant cat in recent months, so I'm sending you the thread to read through. LOTS of good advice in here.
All you need for the birth is a big cardboard box in a secluded place, a blanket/towel-and of course, food, water and litter box for Mom.
Then get on Facebook and look for Animal adoption groups in your area.
Babies are easy-moms do all the work-and you can play and socialize them and get them ready for adoption-if they will let you foster. They'll also steer you to low cost spaying and shots.

Please be sure it’s a no kill otherwise they may euthanize the cat right away because she’s pregnant. The ugly truth is that yes even pregnant cats and tiny kittens get put down.

See if there’s a rescue group that might take her if you can’t keep her.
