Where are my LSA members that grew up in the hood? What are some hood meals you grew up eating? My mom & dad stayed throwing something together. Tonight I made Rice mixed with ground turkey (used to eat it with ground beef), with pork & beans. Add sugar & butter & bon appetite! I can fill this thread up! Let me hear some of y'alls

If you were "balling", your hood meal would be at the Chinese store - four chicken wings and fried rice. lol

IDK, spaghetti and catfish (hotsauce on the catfish now). Lima beans and cornbread, Pinto beans and cornbread, or greens and cornbread, and don't forget to throw in that hamhock for flavor.

My mom would make this at least three times a week. She used regular ground beef though. If she wanted to be fancy, she'd throw some sliced government cheese on it.

Ummm...ramen and sliced hot dogs was also a staple. We also used to get the big cans of government peanut butter and honey, so we had that on stale white bread a lot, too.

Even though it's not a hood meal. I grew up eating oatmeal like almost every day. Cereal was considered a "special thing" at times. I always felt like I was in an episode of "Good Times" with that lumpy ass oatmeal staring in my face!

But to this day, I LOVE oatmeal

I actually almost made these for dinner tonight.

I grew up eating it with buttered rice, a biscuit, and the syrup on top. I do better now when I make them but hell that's gourmet to me right there.

We didn't live in the hood, but sometimes we ate like we did. My mom used to make sweet rice, which was basically white rice with a bunch of sugar in it. Blech!!!! We also drank a lot of Kool-Aid and beans & hot dogs. Oh, and peanut butter and syrup sandwiches!!!

For real, but my Moms could hook it up...no lumps and made with water. Real butter, milk and brown sugar for toppings. My pantry is never without a round box of steel cut oats. :kissed:

Lol. I've never seen it in the paint cans. We got it in the big glass jars. Sometimes we had Bre'r Rabbit molasses instead of syrup.

I bet you were like WTH?

Ribbon Cane Syrup came in the paint can back in the day.

So good. My dad used to heat it with a little butter.
