My sister would come home sometimes, with a pickled pig foot.... wrapped in that "white old skool meat counter" paper. She would break out the hot sauce and go to town.
My mom, would throw some chicken wings in a pot with some white rice and boil it. It might not have been so bad, except the bones everywhere. I make a modern version now, it's comforting.

I love neckbones too! Don't know if anybody said this, but bologna cups. It sounds weird, but good! I still make them occasionally, but with turkey instead. (fried bologna, mashed potatoes, with a slice of cheese on top lol)

Hated this...
picGbue4I.jpg

LOVED IT!!! Add some garlic salt and pepper and top it with shredded cheddar cheese and green onions. Fried Lil Smokies are tastier when you eat this.

Don’t forget the Hormel canned chili with rice and cheese on top also.

We worked cheese and green onions into many meals at our house. Folks thought we were Spanish!!!

Everything spam. Spam sandwiches. Oodle noodle and fried spam. Once my dad tried to get fancy and made a spam salad with fried fish, lol

Government cheese sandwiches plain w/ mayo or grilled. We would take the can of peanut butter and make peanut butter cookies.

Kool-aid, Tang, and good ol' sugar water when we ran out.

My mom used to make meal soup (basically cornmeal and water boiled together w/ salt and a little butter) w/ fatback for breakfast.
