Is there anything I can do about oily skin or will I have to deal with it for the rest of my life?

How oily are we talking and, do you already have an established skincare regimen? If so, have you tried to incorporate products containing niacinamide?

-Drink more water (at least 3-4 bottles a day)

-Wear a moisturizer meant solely for oily skin. I recommend Murad Oil Control Mattifier. It has spf 45

Acne Control Oil and Pore Control Mattifier Broad Spectrum SPF 45 | PA++++

Ever since I started wearing that moisturizer daily, my oil has been reduced drastically. No shine at all during the day.

But also do you have a skin routine? Do you regularly exfoliate?

i have oily skin and it's hard to control. i drink a lot of water, hydrate like crazy, moisturize, tone with glycolic acid, take omega 3's and use sunscreen but my oily skin is still a thing. your diet is also very important. oily and fatty foods feed the oily in your skin so eating clean does help a bit.

@yung.bae Thanks for sharing your experience with the Murad Oil Control Mattifier. I’ve been testing it out this week and I’m impressed. It’s really good, worth every penny!

Make sure you are hydrating your skin with hydrating toners, essences and serums. Also applying skincare on damp skin, even moisturizer has helped my oily skin tremendously.

This moisturizer didn't work for me. I was still a greasy mess after 2 hours

I had severely oily skin for YEARS and just within the past 2ish years, I am now dry to combination... weird ish. To reiterate what others have said, find a good exfoliating regimen for your skin and use AHAs. Search Nerida Joy on YouTube. She's very knowledgeable if you have the time to sit and watch (and listen).

Only thing that’s worked for me is accutane and I’m still early in the journey but my skin is no longer an oil slick AT ALL.

Oily skin can change with age/hormones but it is typically a chronic problem. A lot of people with oily skin mess up by over-stripping with cleansers and not replenishing the moisture which triggers the skin to produce more oil. You have to find the balance.

It took me a while, but I have my oil under control with my current routine:
MORNING
Gentle cleanser
toner
niacinamide serum (helps reduce oil production)
lightweight oil-free moisturizer

NIGHT
foaming cleanser
toner
BHA liquid exfoliant
hyaluronic acid serum to replenish moisture
oil-free PM moisturizer

I use rosewater facial mist for light remoisturizing during the day and blotting papers to clear up any shiny breakthroughs in my T-zone.

I took accutane last year. My skin wasn't oily when I was on it but 2-3 months later it was back

Skincare wise, adding a Niacinamide & zinc serum to my morning skincare routine and Marula oil to my evening routine, has definitely helped. I recently started using the Murad oil control mattifying moisturiser with SPF for daytime, & layer it over the Niacinamide serum. I also use Indian Aztec clay mask once a week, which detoxifies and balances my skin.

Makeup wise, if I’m wearing a foundation and concealer I use a mattifying primer in my tzone and apply translucent powder on top before applying foundation. That extra step helps give additional oil control throughout the day:

I've started using niacinamide recently in the morning and evening. Its really helped with facial greediness throughout the day. I'm using the one from inkey list which costs around £6 which is dirt cheap compared to other formulas.

I have very oily skin. Dermatologist recently prescribed a sulfur face wash. My tzone is dry now which is scary because I always look like an oil slick. Makeup always slides off my face no matter what the brand promises. Primers and setting sprays normally don’t work either.

I have combo skin/oily T zone, but if I do my skin routine you can't tell. With oily skin, you don't want to strip the skin, that will produce more oil.

I cleanse with a mild non drying cleanser. If your skin is tight after you cleanse it's too drying.
After cleansing I follow up with hyaluronic acid.
I use non clogging heavy moisturizers and oil at night which tricks my skin into thinking it has produced enough oil and so it won't over produce oil during the day. In the morning all I need is a light moisturizer.
I also use niacinamide every single day, sometimes twice a day after I cleanse.

My skin is only oily when I'm lazy and don't do my skin care.

I don’t know how to naturally control oily skin. I think it’s good to have oily skin, you’re less prone to wrinkles. Although, I was doing the face blotting thing a few times a day until only last week. I just started using Dermablend Poresaver Matte Makeup Primer and it’s amazing! You can use it alone if you don’t wear makeup, it controls oil all day and it doesn’t dry out your skin.
