I want to start making jewelry for myself and to sell...the problem is I don't even know where to begin and I have a particular type of jewelry I would like to make. Nothing with beads or wires.

stuff like luv aj, vanessa mooney and baublebar are more my thing.

Buy a sodder and start practicing on cheap metal like thick copper wire. Don't practice with expensive metals. A good work space and lots of jewelry making tools. As you go along you'll figure out what tools you need.

For the type of jewelry you wanna make, just go on ebay or RioGrande's website and find all the parts you think you'll need. Try making something similar to the jewelry from those websites you mentioned, but for yourself. Take a good look at the piece, then read the description...it'll give you a good idea of what you'll need to make your replica. (chains, pleather or real leather, the type of pendant and findings needed, the type of element you want [gold, sliver, PLATED gold or silver]).

Now rings might be a bit of a b!tch to make. If you are starting out cheap, you can totally get away with something like this:

why you ask? break down the parts: stone, the ring blank, and glue. Simple. Now if you want to make a ring that have small stones set into them...then good luck with that.

YouTube has dozens of tutorials on metal smithing. It's a good place to start.

the stuff you listed is cast metal -- you'd have to make a ring from scratch or learn to carve wax, then send it to a caster -- otherwise if you know an autocad type of software you can do it digitally. If there is an arts center near you or an arts college there is agood chance you can take classes quarterly or at least find an artist willing to teach you. It's pretty easy to screw up cheap metal, gold is really the easiest flow so if you are new to soldering you have a big learning curve. Stone setting aint easy either --it's not hard though.
