Frozen cups (Huckabucks)

Makes 12 or more frozen cups depending of size of cups

What you’ll need
6 packs assorted flavored Kool Aid (4 packs of the same flavor if you want all of your frozen cups to be one flavor.)
4 quarts Water
Sugar

Tools you’ll need
Twelve 16 ounce plastic cups. You can also use 8 or 10 ounce cups
11 x17 inch baking pan

Preparation

Step 1- In a large pot, add 4 quarts warm or hot water and 3 cups sugar. Stir until sugar dissolves into water. If you want your frozen cups to be all of the same flavor add 3 to 4 packs Kool aid and stir until combined. Set aside.

Step 2- Add 3 1/2 cups sugar water into a medium sized bowl. Add 1 pack of Kool aid. Stir until combined. Once done pour mixture into 2 sixteen ounce cups. Place on to 11 x 17 inch baking pan. Repeat this step until you have all 12 cups filled. (If you have already added the Kool aid from step 1 then proceed to fill all of your 12 cups with the kool aid mixture and place on to 11 x 17 inch baking pan.)

Step 3- Place into freezer overnight 10 or more hours. To serve let frozen cups sit out for 5 minutes before serving. This will allow the frozen cup to be removed and flipped over to the opposite side.

Ah! I remember these when I was a kid- folks would sell them out of their house..sort of a budget snowball.

The last time I had a huckabuck or freeze cups as I learned to call them. I bought it from one my aunt's neighbors. Later that evening she stabbed her boyfriend to death.

I always think about that now when I see them.

I love all of Charlie Andrew's cooking video's. I brought the ingredients to make this for my nieces and nephews tomorrow. In Texas, we called them "cool cups."

Yep. The lady down the street from my aunt sold these in dixie cups for 25 cents a pop. That syrupy glaze on top was everything.

In SWLA we call them, “cold cups”. But my grandma made them, I’m not gone lie and say hers were the best to me, because they weren’t. The best ones usually had other ingredients in them, like pineapple juice or snow cone syrup.

Frozen cups or cold cups yes, BUT what the heck is a huckabuck?!!!:laugh2:laugh2:laugh2:laugh2

I have never heard that before and it’s sounds like it’s named after someone in Uncle Tom’s Cabin. I am LOL. I never knocked on the candy lady’s door asking for that.:twitcy
