This Netflix Mormon series made me realize that religious people scare me. Religious people are creepy and crazy and dangerous like others but something particularly scary about them. Admittedly I grew up in highly controlled religion and abusive home but even outside of that experience I've noticed something

I don’t understand how people can believe so much in a thing that they’ve never seen, felt, etc. It’s just weird to me. But I try not to judge

And then they act like you're the crazy one for not believing in it. It makes no sense at all.

I always switch between atheist and agnostic. But I grew up Christian. For me, it was a gradual thing, asking questions, thinking about why I was Christian. My main thing was learning that the whole world has different beliefs, prays to different things in different ways. Made me think about how if I was born anywhere else I probably wouldn’t even be a Christian because someone had to teach me it. That made me denounce the religion in search of the truth. So I claim agnostic until something sticks with me, and so far it’s been science.

Good luck on your journey OP. At least to me, I felt like becoming agnostic/athiest was a major shift in my life.

what is even crazier is that they call the gods of the Greeks myths, but then expect people to believe a virgin was impregnated.

Welcome op. Dinosaurs had me convert. To this day I cannot find a believer who can explain how dinosaurs fit into their religion’s story of the creation of earth and their religion’s timeline. We know for a fact they existed so...

I grew up in a religious family. I'm no longer religious. I like meditation & spirituality. I really don't believe in anything. Just living life to the fullest and enjoying it as much as you can.

When you're dead. That's it.

I think agnostic is a smart thing to be.

You just leave open the possibility of many things.

You don’t deny the existence of God is possible.

You leave the door open to many beliefs and theories - scientific, religious or spiritual.

With the limitless-ness of the universe it seems reasonable to say we don’t know anything for sure.

Agnostic is the way to go @DigitalSwan

It the only label that uses pure logic and admits that THEY DON'T KNOW.

It is not lead by blind faith or faith in something they have never heard, seen, experienced or felt.

They weren't there when any of the events in their book of choice (Quran, Bible, etc) happened. The books are anecdotal, as it wasn't written by God himself but his believers. If you believe you have met God, heard God, seen God or felt God, I can completely understand why one would believe in one. That makes perfect sense and I'll let you cook as whatever theistic religion you are.

But to not experience any of that and believe in something doesn't make any sense to me at all. And that's my problem with religion, blind faith. I can't do it. My brain literally won't allow me to.

A lot of things, including the perfect balance of elements here on earth that allow it to exist in the first place are too coincidental for me to believe that there may not be other forces at work in the universe. But do I know for sure that there is deity out there responsible for this? No. I suspect there might be a force at play but I don't know if their name is God, if they have a name, or even they actually exist.

Your doubt is healthy, please don't let any religious person try to shame you about having any or make you believe they have all the answers because nobody does.
