Yet when it's flat ironed I get billions of compliments like damn!!! The other day I was hanging with a friend and got in his car and he was like "what's going on with your hair, you going through something??!!" He tried to make come off as a joke but idgaf there's always some truth behind humor.

I love my hair and been natural for over 10 years and been learning to embrace my natural hair more and stop flat ironing because it has caused heat damage in my hair.

Yeah yeah, you shouldn't care what others think but it's fµck!ng discouraging how when you wear your natural hair and others see it as messy or unkempt

Ya it's annoying. If you don't have locs in the black community then it is a problem. Anything else is unkepmt unless it is cut.

But what blacks got to understand until we love our natural born aesthetic then things won't change. We can't beg other ppl to think that we are beautiful when we don't love ourselves.

The bolded is pure facts!!! If one thing would change in the community is the ability to love oneself and all features from head to toe

It's one thing to be natural and its another thing to be well groomed. Not every person that wears their hair natural grooms it properly. It's as if because they are natural people should overlook when it looks crazy. Was your hair well groomed or could it have looked unkept?

I get the most compliments at work when my hair is natural. I remember I had just taken my hair out of knotless braids and was too lazy to do anything with it so I wore it in a pineapple style and everyone kept asking me why I wore wigs and braids if my real hair was so nice. That’s low key annoying too. OP you should have popped your friend upside his head.

I’ve received compliments about my hair but I’ve also had people make fun of me or straight up tell me to straighten my hair or get a weave. Most people don’t like our hair but I don’t need people’s validation to be who I am.

Now you know a white person wouldn't say that to your face.. This sounds like a straight black male no shade.
It was and I snapped on his stupid ass. He's a black man who has self hate issues. Dude really thinks he's Italian when he's not even 25% and he's dark skin. I've told him he should seek help for that mess

Thats true and that's great you have a strong mindset like that!! Mine slips up at times.

I also told dude I'll wear my hair whatever I wanna wear because it's beautiful regardless

I work in a super diverse office so white, black, Indian, Asian everybody. But I notice I get the most positive comments from white coworkers.
I remember when my sister went natural, white ppl would come up to her all the time and stop her. Which was strange to me

Yeah, I get compliments but only when I have extensions. If my hair is shorter (just above my shoulders), I don't get any love. It is what it is.

I wear my hair natural and I've noticed the only people who ever compliment me on it are Black women. Everyone else, including Black men, always ask me why I don't straighten my hair. SMH

I'll get compliments when I wear it natural, but get even more from people I see often when its straighten because you can see the length.

People will ask if I cut it when I go from straight back to natural because of the shrinkage.

Same Op, I get most compliments by white coworkers. The only compliments I get from Blk folks is if I go to the salon for a trim or from older Blk woman when I’m out.

Love how some insinuated that because she is natural, her hair must not be groomed.

Meanwhile, nobody says anything to people that do not groom their raggedy ass straight wigs or permed hair.

As a matter of fact,i got compliments on this raggedy ass straight wig i have, but none on my natural hair(esp if it is in a ponytail or bun)

I rarely get compliments either. Once and it was when I had a micro twist out and someone said they liked my curl pattern, I guess thinking the micro twists were my real pattern.....actually that I think about it I had someone last month say they liked my afro, a black girl with a weave, and she said she wished she looked good in a afro but she can't do it. I had a full afro picked out at the time.

I have had public insults also.

Nobody insuated that though.

And having a fly hairstyles doesn't necessarily mean my hair is groomed.

You got triggered per usual when somebody says anything reaffirming or positive about black female appearances.

I can wear a headwrap or have plaits and I'm still getting complemented. But that's not why I do it. I've been doing this before it got trendy.

I think too many of you care what others think about your hair.

What is "groomed" to you? Natural hair that looks like the stereotypical biracial ringlets or type 4 hair that's been styled to mimic like type 4 hair grows from the scalp in loose curls?

My hair is short 4-C hair.
I've always get compliments on my natural hair.

Are you serious? With all the Black Women who wear short afros, fades, and super short cuts. Black Women do Big Chops and rock them with pride.

Who said that's a problem?

There are Black Women who will cut all their hair off in a heartbeat, and it won't even faze them.

Your hair could be heat damaged, an odd length, not styled in a flattering way or all the above-try something else.

I had a friend who looked at me like "c'mon now" when I said I keep my hair covered most of the time. It works for me!! It keeps me from having hand in hair syndrome and makes it stay moisturized for longer. I also don't manipulate it as much.

I make it my mission when I see someone with natural hair to go out my way to give them a complement. You just never know when a complement will make someone’s day.

I'm going assume your hair is not styled in a way that warrants a compliment? Whenever I wear a twist out, braid out, wash n go, I get compliments. I get less notice when I wear two strand twists. But then again, my two strand twists are half-assed and I only wear them to put my hair in a bun.

This reminded of a time when I went out with some old coworkers to a club and I wore a twist out cause I was washing my hair the next day. This translucent girl was intoxicated and she really was feeling my hair. Her boyfriend was like “omg you’re so embarrassing lol” I put her hand on my head and she looked like she orgasmed then and there. I was drunk so I thought it was funny af.
