I regret listening to those scammers on twitter that said vaseline was bad for your face.

Lord, this thread went left. :sidefrown

Anyway, I tried Vaseline and my face is just too oily and acne-prone for it.

Does anyone use cocoa butter gel/oil on their face? I usually use either shea butter or grapeseed oil to moisturize but I'm scared to put anything scented on my face.

I use bio oil and Vaseline cocoa butter lotion. Cerave lotion from time to time as well

My mom sent me to school greased up like a piece of Church's Chicken every fall and winter. She used grease and water on my natural hair. Somehow I got away from it as a young adult and even vowed to not ever use it again... and that's when the problems started.

Fast forward to 30 year old me -

My pregnancy was stretch mark free thanks to in part to vaseline. And I have officially turned into my mother because I greased up my baby so much one day, poor thing almost slid off my lap.

I tried Vaseline for my face as I started using retin a & it would make me so dry & peel. Vaseline over my moisturizer really helped & it made my skin so soft when I would wash in the morning

I just had to stop because it was so greasy & thick I felt like I couldn’t sleep. I was scared to put my face on my pillow & get Vaseline all on my pillows & bed lol

Are you all just back sleepers? How do you all deal with that?

Everyone's a specialist...

I'm laughing at one of those Reddit comments saying not to use Aquaphor on eczema. Our doctor specifically told us to use Aquaphor to help treat eczema. And it works. It moisturizes and occludes.

@Pwussycat How you put saran wrap on your face???

My mama smeared my face with vaseline for years and then I let social media make me boujee and think it was bad. It is not!!

I went back to using it and it has helped my skin tremendously in the past few months. I make sure I wash my hands for 20 seconds thoroughly, then I wash my face for 60 seconds. Next I put on cetaphil moisturizer and then seal with vaseline. Just a dime size amount and I rub it in my fingers to warm it up.

I use the equate baby 100% petroleum jelly in the blue squeeze tube. I don't like skin products in tubs because I think they breed bacteria and the vaseline brand is too thick.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Equate-Baby-100-Pure-Hypoallergenic-Petroleum-Jelly-2-5-oz/882021110

I read that vaseline can seal bacteria/dirt and sometimes that's why people breakout when they use it. It has done more for me than some of these $40 and $50 moisturizers I've been buying.

I used Vaseline on my face the other day for the first time in about 20 years; it felt horrible! It felt hot, as if it was gasping for breath - I can’t even explain it well, it just wasn’t the one. I had to get it off after 15 minutes or so.

With that being said, do what works for you. There are many things people swear by that my sensitive skin scoffs at.

It was good for my lips and bad for my face. I use emulsifying ointment as a face wash now.

I can't believe fonts started fighting about vaseline:LOL: In my case I haven't used it, although I have heard people using it or aquaphor to seal in moisture. I have combination skin so i'm not sure how it would react with it. I also have way too many skincare products I have to finisheeksad

The American Association for Dermatology:

"While petroleum jelly has many benefits, it shouldn’t be used for everything. Avoid putting petroleum jelly on your face if you are acne-prone, as this may cause breakouts in some people. If you have questions about your skin or how to take care of it, see a board-certified dermatologist."

5 ways to use petroleum jelly for skin care

You're going against the proven medical research, but do you.
Vaseline is a known occlusive for the skin and many people love using it to prevent moisture loss during the night. Its the most occlusive ingredient against TEWL

Dr. Dray explicitly warns against the risk of acne at this time stamp.

In this video she said it cause comedones in SOME people.

I have found that if you use off brand vaseline this can happen because it's critical your face be very clean as to not trap any dirt and bacteria on face. Off brand can be leass pure than vaseline that has a special filter process.

TLDR/takeaways 1) Wash face thoroughly 2) Use name barnd Vaseline

My mom swears by Vaseline.

I have extremely sensitive skin and I break out in little bumps when I use it.

I have been making my own oil infusions with herbs and using it for everything. I use it to cleanse my face (OCM), I use a separate one for those little random zits I get during my period, then I use the same one I use for OCM as my daily moisturizer.

My skin loves it.

Everyone's skin is different. My mom used Vaseline on my face and body as a child and I still use it to this day. Never had issues. My sister on the other hand can't use Vaseline on her face. It breaks her out. Me, I couldn't imagine life without it.

It is a great sealant after doing your treating and moisturizing. The only issue is for those with acne prone skin and those whose skin tends to not exfoliate easily but add an acid and you are golden. I interchange between Vaseline and snail mucin as a sealant. Then again some people could be allergic. Just do what works for you xx

I have dry skin and I can't see myself doing this at all. I love aquaphor and I use it on my feet, hands and lips and that's it.

I am happy it works for some people though.

It does wonders if you have dry hands/feet.

Elizabeth Arden’s 8 Hour Cream it’s nothing but overpriced vaseline. Save your money and do not fall for brands.

*puts tinhat on* I think a major part of the vaseline slander is bc it doesn't make money for skincare giants that have made a killing on elaborate skincare routines.

Vaseline doesn't work for everyone but really no skincare product does. Skincare isn't a one size fits all. If you apply it and it doesn't affect your skin or even improves it then by all means continue. Definitely cheaper than most of these 'miracle' skincare creams being promoted

Yeah, I don't use vaseline at all. When I was younger, the only time I did use it was during the biting cold. Otherwise, it stunk and was too heavy for my skin.

Vaseline is basically mineral oil and that ingredient is in damn near everything. It makes quite a bit of money worldwide.

Plus, vaseline is commonly used elsewhere in the world.

What works for others, won’t work for you and vice versa. Read ingredients, pay attention to your face, and use your own discretion. Lmao

I use Vaseline nightly on my lips. It's the only thing that keeps them perfectly hydrated during the long winter months up north.

Trust, it works. People telling you it works is based on the proof from their experiences.

I can honestly say this does work. I knew a girl that used this every single day grade school and still does to this day. SHe was always shiny faced. She has the skin of a baby. No marks, scars, discolorations nothing just smooth and clear. Shes about 35 now and her skin looks soooo young

I wish I could link her photo here.

It’s a by-product of crude oil waste and not eco-friendly, so I avoid buying anything with petroleum.

I do, however, have and use products with tallow. My teenagers use tallow-based skin care products and they’re very effective for acne.
