Hell no you're not too old! People have such an antiquated idea of careers these days. Society has changed, and with the way things are headed, most people are going to be working clear through their 70s. At late-twenties, you're still a baby in that regard. People are starting whole new careers at 40+ and thriving. If you're determined to make it happen, you'll do it and be just fine.

I'm in my 40s. I get it. I'm not talking about recreational athletics or the performance of professionals who have been training/performing for years.

I understand I was just trying to be positive and add a different perspective. My cousin started bodybuilding at 40 and prior to that she was not active at all. It's never too late is all I'm trying to say :)

Your cousin honestly sounds like a hater, I wouldn't tell her any plans you have anymore. You're not too old at all and that time is going to pass anyway you might as well make the most of it.

Shes jealous, and/or has really ingrained societal expectations and projects that on you. Youre still a young adult, but even if you werent young you should still go for that law degree. Good luck!

So I’m getting ready to graduate undergrad. I will be graduating at the age of 26, keep in mind I started at the age of 22.

Any who, my cousin made a point to tell me that I’m too old to be attending. Roughly speaking I will start when I’m 27. To be honest I never thought about the age thing until she mentioned it. My mom made it a point to tell me the Barrack Obama graduated Law School at 30, and to stop paying attention to people who are on a different path.

What do you guys think.

No, and in-fact, many law schools are favoring those who are older students and not necessarily the K-JD track or those who graduated college at age 22 and have taken time off.

I fell in the latter track and took off 3 years and wish I had taken an additional year. You are fine.

Follow your heart. If you want to go to law school do it. I graduated from undergrad at 26 years old and I got my Master's degree at 30 years old. Don't be afraid to do what you must to achieve your dreams. Believe in yourself.

Do what's best for you and your life. I have a friend who started med school at 32. Everyone was telling her she's too old to try to become a doctor. She's 1 year in, doing well in her classes and has no regrets. Sometimes you need to drown out the negativity and pursue your calling.

No such thing as too late or too old. You can go anything at any age. Just go for it. You’ll do well

No age limit on education but if you want to be a mother, take that into consideration as well. I would still do law school but actively date and find your partner as well while your studying. I also think undergrad if you can afford it, can be a good time to have kids.
Sorry if that sounds like too much but I wish someone had given me the heads up. I started my PhD at 27, now 29 and having a bit of a panic about finding a spouse and starting a family. No one really talks about it which I think is unfair because it can have a huge detrimental effect on women later down the line than men aren’t subjected to.
Wishing you all the best :)

The attorney that I work for said that the average age to start law school is around 24 or 25. He started when he was 26 and never once felt out of place.

Go for it, OP! We all have different timelines and there is no reason to be ashamed of starting “late.”

The average age of a law student is actually 24-27. So you fall right in the average. Its definitely not too late, you're actually right on time

No, a large part of the student body in law school is "non traditional". People tend to do it after they've established themselves a bit and have more time to focus.

As an older student, you'll find that you are much more focused than the younger students, and have a lot more perspective on what to attend to, and what to pass by. And there will be plenty of older people around you!

Don't confine yourself to other people's limits!

OP.

It depends on the school you can get into.

Sure, if you can get into a prestigious law school or a very good, inexpensive state university law school go for it! It is not too late.

BUT DO NOT GO TO A PRICEY LOWER OR MID TIER LAW SCHOOL.

You don't want to have to take out $200k in loans for a school where graduates struggle to find jobs working as lawyers and those who do are getting a weak starting salary. Many big law firms and prestigious corporations only hire attorneys who graduate from top law schools.

You will be paying off your dang student loans forever and next thing you know you will be in your late 30s and will sit down to do the math and you will realize you ruined your life.

No. My classmates range from 23-40s. There’s also a man who is on his second career and will be joining my big law firm as a first year associate the same time I will.

if anything, I know the top student at one t14 is much older and has kids and a wife, which is why he was so motivated to do well lol.

you’ll be the in the same age group as most of your classmates.

You are VERY young. My biggest regrets are the ways I restricted myself in my mid-late 20s because I didn’t realize just how young I was. And I’m only early 30s now, but seriously just take this time and run with it. Trust me. Just be sure law school is something you do really want and are excited by.

this. I took out a good chunk of money to attend a t14 and have employment secured with a corporate firm...and debt still feels like an albatross. And I’m lucky I went to a state school and didn’t have undergrad loans. I know a few people who have debt from college and law school and it’s not pretty...

People have different careers throughout their lifetimes - individuals are going back to school at every age- and remember you gonna be working for the next 30-40 years so just ask yourself are you too old? Obviously not.

Do people your age group ever use logic anymore or think for themselves? It seems ya'll need people to tell you how to live your life. It's very odd to me.

This whole thread is very weird. Very weird.

There were plenty of people in my law school class in their 30s... we graduated together. And they brought an interesting perspective to some of the courses. So no, it’s not too late.

I know people in their late 40's and 50's now studying to become doctors.

my cousin became a doctor at 45 . And he’s a damn great doctor. He’s a family physician . He works in a private office .
why do people put time stamps on trivial things like education ?
but let’s not judge folks who are in their 30s working retail or fast food or warehouses l ... that wasn’t shade just a comparison of what people don’t seem to place an age limit . Because there doesn’t need to be one.

I plan on going to a top law school. I’m only 5000 and some change in debt from undergrad because I did not have to come out of pocket for community college.

I’m looking at the ivy’s because I heard they have great financial incentives.

I think this might be a relic of the rat race culture America promotes.
