And not a revival of some old counterculture...

Like hippies, flappers, and beatniks.

Speaking strictly from an artistic standpoint, I would say absolutely!

There are so many independent artists in the creative or intellectual fields from filmmakers, singers, dancers, rappers, in fashion, and even the culinary arts and so forth. Influencers on YouTube and various social media platforms that are creating their own genres and movements right now that are a part of underground movements or work outside of the mainstream.

What’s the name of the counterculture that connects them all?

Radicals and Neo-Communists are the counterculture today, their style is e-girl or alt fashion.

Other than that, I would say the Hyperpop scene is one in music, it’s distorting pop music or whatever. But there’s no equivalent to say punk or hippies.

Tbh, I can't really provide a solid answer atm. I guess bc I had mentioned so many various examples that, depending on the category, the name would change to suit the nature of the specific activity being performed. There are so many niche groups with different functions or objectives but maybe overlap or intersect somewhere in ideologies in a broader perspective.

With that being said it's tough to give a blanket label on something that is so intangible by it's very nature to call something counter-culture implies that in some way it is going against the mainstream and in essence being very "grassroots". But at some point, I find movements eventually catch on to the masses and inevitably become filtered and bastardized by the mainstream.

You really got my brain juices flowing on this one..

I never heard of hyper pop

it looks interesting

I think that’s a subculture. It fits within all social norms of today’s era, nothing groundbreaking. It’s just pop music on steroids.

I don’t see any counter culture movement happening right now... maybe it cause COVID-19 keeps everyone behind closed doors and going against that would look too Trump’ish.

maybe there’s going to be a counterculture against corporate America and working.. I see a lot of disgruntlement on being a wage “slave”... and when technology decreases more jobs there’s probably going to be people who go against working all together.

But that’s a culture that’s been around for ages even back in Ancient Greece.

You raise a good point and I actually agree with you 100% regarding this part.

The only thing I'd like to point out is that I was more so referring to artistic creative endeavors and you're technically speaking of political/social/financial issues.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me.

As for punk, they are replaced by goths and got merged into being an an e-girls and e-boys. I do see a few people partially shave their hair and dye it with candy colors.

As for hippies, it can be because technology is more intergraded in people's lives. Some can't live without it. The closest time people wear hippie clothes is for alternative concerts.

I don’t think egirl/eboy go further than fashion. The punk and even goth cultures represented something.

E-girls and e-boys represent infusing popular internet culture such as memes, rap-rock, anime, androgyny, and alternative thinking and hobbies. It's less shallow than it appears.
