1. You have no idea of the racial makeup of all these people - you just see dark skin and made some assumptions. Meanwhile, you can be mixed and have dark skin like Naomi Campbell, Tatyana Ali, Ryan DestinyWow, a nuclear Black family without a mixed race wife or daughter.
I’m guessing it’s because people would forge a connection anyways, or make reference to it the same way any show with four female friends is some how a call back to SATC (Girlfriends, Girls). Why not just create a brand new story instead of tying it to the Wonder years?
Thank you. Who even asked for this? Smh.Why not just create a brand new story instead of tying it to the Wonder years?
Agreed, this show was one of my favorites. It was such a touching and well written show. I watched a episode the other day, still made me cry, and still stands up. Crazy to see life from the parents point of view now instead of Kevin and Winnie. Definitely Going to rewatch.I think they are tying it to The Wonder Years to attract an already established audience to it or at least the name rings bells. It rings more bells than if it were a new show with no connection at all.
However, The Wonder Years was such a classic that this show will constantly be compared about not living up to it. How do you live up to a classic?
I think the premise could work if it’s a legitimately good show with good writing. But the fact that Lee Daniels is involved let’s me know it’ll be filled with melodrama, and not nuanced and multi-layered like the original one.

This show was gold. They should not touch this.
I can’t trust him to do this remake any justice. He’s gonna turn it into an agenda filled mess.
