As someone who loves horror movies. Has seen all the tragic Game of Thrones moments, watched shows like “Underground” and “Lovecraft Country”

The entire “Cat in the bag” scene was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to watch. It felt gratuitous and should not have gone on as long as it did.

Unfortunately, all of those things DID happen. They want to soften the image of Racism and Slavery. That's dangerous.

Update: I finished it, now I’m traumatized. There should be a petition preventing Lena from releasing content. This was disturbing from start to finish.

ANYONE WHO HAS NOT MADE IT TO EPISODE 5 YET , I ADVISE YOU TO SKIP THAT EPISODE FOR YOUR OWN SANITY

The Cat in the Bag scene needs to be banned from being shown on any public network . It was very disturbing and it triggered me for no reason. It was very hard to digest, I had nightmares. The FCC or whatever they identify as needs to block the show and so does Amazon . I finished the series a week ago and that scene especially the sound still plays in my head

Lena needs to be black balled and so does Little dickk Marvin . I know worse things happened in real life to our people but that was not acceptable. And to think I almost got my father to watch it when he grew up in that Era. fµck Lena Waithe and Tiny boy dickk Marvin

Thanks y’all because I wanted to watch it but wasn’t sure because of the time period and how some of the trailer was looking...highlighting racism...definitely gonna skip that

My bf sent me a message after he watched it warning me not to watch it and also telling me to warn other people in my family. He said it was that traumatizing.

Reading these comments. Confirms it for me. I won't be watching!

Sooo I just got to episode 5 and the cat in the bag scene was so disgusting and unnecessary. I genuinely want to know who benefits from a scene like that. It was beyond fµcked up and added nothing to the creepy paranormal aspect of the show just straight up sadistic. Anyway, I hope Lena never gets the chance to produce anything ever again. She’s sick

Everyone is posting about it so I figure I'd give it a try because people either love it or hate it but some are comparing it to Lovecraft Country. I have to see for myself if it's comparable to that masterpiece.

Coming back to say, after finishing this series it does NOT compare to Lovecraft Country. Not even close. Them was a slight disappointment and barely kept my attention.

Racist whites benefit from it. That’s who this movie was made for. They get to to reminisce and fantasize about the “ good old days”.

I just finished watching this and it was def trauma pδrn and a bit all over the place. There was really no need to show the friction between them and the neighbors because the neighbors were the least of their problems LOL!!!! I watched it because I love dark horror and thrillers. Behind her eyes was much better than this lmaoo.

episode 9 was such a bore. finished last night n idk how it ended. how extreme and uncomfortable the show made me, it really was background noise for me. i didnt HATE the show, i hope the next season really is horror that isnt just black trauma torture pδrn. glad the neighbor got killed, though her kidnapping was blamed on by the neighbors.

and i will say this was a good showing of blacks in america and how they have to deal with white passive aggressive attitude in the work force and how we have to bite our tongue bc it is our boss.

I'm speechless y'all I'm on episode 5 up to the part of the rape and baby killing scene....... who green-light this sh!t?!
Yo, watching this sh!t was a huge mistake for me. I watched the entire series about 24 hours ago at a friend's urging, and it showed me exactly how significant my sensitivities have become since the last presidency.

I've been hella upset since. That imagery was far too much.

Ok, so I looked up an episode synopsis to see what exactly "cat in the bag" meant. I thought it literally meant cat in the bag. Anyway, you guys realize that whites used to throw Black babies into swamps to feed alligators, right? Black babies were also used at white only carnivals where whites would throw hard baseballs at their heads. I'll spare you the images.

As painful as I am sure that scene was, it's pretty accurate when it comes to whites and how they tortured our resilient ancestors in a multitude of ways.

What's the end game of this though? Like is this show supposed to help in our push for reparations? I am so sorry you guys are injured by this. Black Americans should be able to get free therapy.

I already knew about how they tortured black babies born into slavery. What's the purpose of this show ? Lena is a psychopath . Period !!

For those of you who refuse to listen. Try to educate yourself about the black American experience and why this project is so important.

THEY ALWAYS FIND MONEY TO FUND FILMS THAT DEPICT US BEING RAPED AND MURDERED.

WHO'S AGENDA IS THIS?
It’s also shows that when they are looking to cast movies/shows were the black woman is being degraded and brutalised they have no problem finding a monoracial dark skinned black girl for the role, but when it’s time for a carefree positive sitcom/movie ect all they seem to find is light skin biracials! smdh they love perpetuating certain stereotypes through the media.

I watched the whole show. It was hard to watch at points but i didn’t hate it. I completely understand the outrage because episode 5 was painful. I did say they gotta give us some satisfaction and fight back but realistically, that would have been a death sentence. I also thought the backstory episode with the preacher came way too late in the series but it did tie the story together for me. He was on a mission to break them and in the end he DID NOT win like people in this thread have been saying. I think the series showed that with all the abuse we have endured as people we are powerful and cannot be defeated. And maybe now the neighbors will back down.

The series touched on being black in the workplace, loneliness in white spaces, and mental health for black people. It wasn’t terrible but you do have to sit thru a lotttttt of trauma. I give it a 7/10.
