I started late for the first showing so I’m watching the second. Now my nose is all runny and my eyes watering.

Just finished watching it and why does MLk look like 50 cent and DC Young Fly

Other than that Mahalia's voice gives me chills. I love this woman, she was gone too soon

And it seemed to be weird tension between Mildred and her thats what I picked up

Loved it, loved it, loved it. "Tell em bout the dream"!

Yes, the guy playing MLK does favor 50 Cent, I did a double-take. Danielle did a wonderful job as Mahalia. All the actors were really good in telling her story.

I enjoyed it.

As usual, these movies try to pack too much into their limited time frame so it feels disjointed at the end. I thought, the 2nd airing had stopped too quickly.

I wish, they had include her music relationship with Thomas Dorsey in the story. That was a major part of her story left out of the movie.

Danielle Brooks did a damn good job.

The guy playing MLK Jr would have been a good Muhammed Ali but his speech pattern did not work in this movie at all.

I chuckled that they cut from "I have a dream" speech. They couldn't afford the fee for it. "Tell 'em about the dream, Martin!" commercial time!

I love this movie. I only wish they would have done it as a mini series so they could have showed more of her childhood and showed how she met her husband's.

i'm trying to follow this movie, but they are jumping a bit much. trying to fit a lot into a slot not big enough to properly tell her story.

the movie does not flow well enough

No. The casting is off for the MLK character. Wigs, costumes and the female who plays Mahalia Jackson is great. The ending is abrubt.

I love me some Mahalia. There was some tea I read YEARS ago that when a very young Aretha and Della Reese toured with Mahalia she didn't pay them.
Aretha talked about that in her book. She said she went to MJ, and asked her about her pay, and MJ told her she needs to see her father.. lol

Okay, so I lost track of my days and didn't realize this movie came on until I heard it mentioned on a YT live I was watching on Saturday night... fortunately, I was able to DVR the repeat airing and watched it yesterday....

As a fan of Danielle Brooks, I had been looking forward to this movie since I first heard of it back in January.... and Danielle did not disappoint! I got to see Danielle in her Broadway debut back in 2016 in The Color Purple... Joaquina Kalukango (who played "Mildred") was also in the TCP as "Nettie"... and for anyone wondering, Joaquina also played "Betty Shabazz" in One Night in Miami.... which reminds me that I love that this movie has introduced us to new-ish faces...

Overall, I absolutely loved the movie. I will admit that I didn't know much about Mahalia Jackson other than she is very significant and "Precious Lord"... I thought, given the constraints with Lifetime, there was a lot of care and intention in telling this story... I will definitely be watching this again....
