A tik tok user asked her followers: Would you trade places with someone on the heavier side?

Lizzo is glad they asked and said the Question is giving her the professor who asked their class “would you trade places with a black person?” And no one raised their hand. She says it’s the same thing. Both experience systemic oppression and no one would switch places with a fat person.

what kind of analogy??? Are people born obese???

Also, black people continuously being used as a comparative marker to non-black specific issues is disgusting. It’s not the same thing - at all. Black people can’t change their race. Most fat people can lose weight if they wanted to.

I get that both black people and fat people face oppression however black people have been enslaved simply because of their skin color, while fat people are bullied for being fat, bullying is different than systematically oppressing people just because they were born black. When you’re fat, you can always lose weight but when you’re black you stay black until the day you die, unless you bleach your skin but you still will end up looking black. Racism goes deeper and way before simple bullying.

Listen hear, I’ve been on both sides of that fence. I just choose to be healthy. Plain made simple. My body look nice with some weight on it, I also move and breath better when I’m within my weight range.

To each, it’s own.
Enjoy Life.
The end.

Weight is one of the very few physical characteristics people actually have control over, why do people keep equating it to racism lol. Lizzo is a pretty woman, if she dislikes being fat then she should change that and luckily .... she can!

Uhm... This might be the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

How is eating yourself to the point of obesity equivalent to someone being targeted because of the colour of their skin?

Fat people control what they put in their mouth, a black person does not choose the colour of their skin.

Why does she act like skinny people can't get fat and vice versa? It's nowhere near the same thing as race.

I'm naturally in the size 4-6 range but I once let myself go during a sh!tty relationship and became a size 10. I didn't like being that size, so I dumped the guy and went back to a healthier diet and returned to my usual size.

A revolutionary concept.

Leave black people out of other issues already, gay issues, fat issues, disabled people’s issues... we have nothing to do with that ish!

I wouldn’t compare being fat to race. One of those can be changed, the other is something that people are born with.

I mean in society yes fat people are shamed terrible but not the same way black people are. Black people are shamed in society , the system and the black people bullied because of their skin color and for fat people for anyone its very hard to lose weight but most can change their weight. But it must be hard for Lizzo to be a plus sized black woman

BURGERS why did you thumbs me down, am I not right by saying that you can’t change the color of your skin while you can change your weight? Racism goes deeper than bullying fat people

I dont want to be fat because I dont want that pressure on my bones and joints. Having a lot of fat on you isnt good for your body or health (diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, cancer and so on). Me not wanting to trade places with a fat person has it nothing to do with how people perceive them or how they are treated.

Dumb take Lizzo

Fat people can lose weight, black people cant lose our skin, disabled can’t lose their disability.

How can you be oppressed by something you can control?

Lizzo is clearly unhappy with her weight, but instead of acknowledging she's unhappy and getting healthier, she projects and does this woe is me bs.

Now I agree the mistreatment fat people get is uncalled for, but obesity should never be celebrated or seen as "body positivity."

Equating "fatphobia" to racism is offensive.

SJW lingo and buzzwords are such a joke and have lost all meaning.

"Dismantle systems that oppress fat people". WTF does this even mean?

Truthfully, are there really entire systems designed with the intent to oppress fat people, in the same way racist systems exist? You can change being fat, but no one can change their blackness. Co-opting the framing of racism to fit every arbitrary issue minimizes real structural oppression.

That was in bad taste comparing it to race

I do have sympathy for fat people based off the people I know irl....they aren't the rabid SJW types who insist fat is healthy and talk about changing beauty standards all the time.

Some of them went through a rough patch (abuse, parent dying, depression) in middle school and got big, but have been unable to shake the habit by adulthood. Others carried weight from a rough pregnancy and never had the tools to lose it before it got away from them. Or overeating is just a bad habit they indulge in and I can't say anything about that before at shake my own bad habits lol.

None of them are annoying like the Tess Holiday type people you see on Twitter and I think they do get a lot of hate for no good reason. When people victimize themselves too much instead or just being real, it turns eveyone against them. Like the base idea of "fat people don't get treated well" is good but then she ruined it.

And then she will complain about the fact that people only mention her weight or her fat activism and not her music.... It may be because she keeps talking about it.

You can be discriminated if you're fat but you are not oppressed because you are fat.

Women spend billions trying to be smaller and tighter. Bootcamps, lipos, tucks, expensive gym classes. Them not wanting to look or be like you isn't oppressive? It's more vanity on their end

The hell is she on about? Rolled my eyes.

I don’t want to be fat because:
1) it’s not healthy
2) short life expectancy
3) diseases & health complications
4) it’s unattractive

No one is born fat, being fat is a choice.

As a plus sized (fat, ample, big boned) woman myself, I gotta say this: Lizzo has lost her goddamn mind! I am so sick of everything being referred to as the new black. Next she'll be saying that fat people ought to get reparations.

Lizzo is an attractive woman. If she's truly confident and she loves herself as she is, that's great. I get the feeling that that's not the case.

One minute, she's working extra hard to prove to people that she's out there living her best life and she's all about body positivity. The next minute, she's all woe is me and equating being fat to systemic racism. The two are not the same and she ought to be ashamed of herself for even suggesting it.

You can't compare being fat with being Black, not a good comparison. Yes, there are some rude idiots who will be mean. However, being of a larger size is nowhere on the same level.

Precisely. The mental gymnastics is annoying. Maybe they'd garner more support if they were genuine, they're just as vain as the rest of us.

It’s the false equivalency for me. She really thought this was an intelligent argument. It’s sad that she has allowed herself to be propped up as the spokeswoman for the obese community which I believe she secretly hates. Now, she’s trapped in that box and every time she speaks she finds a way to bring up “fat shaming.”

I live in Europe where we have universal health care and there was some recent debate that fat people cost more money thank normal people. So they were proposing that people with normal weight and a healthy lifestyle should pay a slightly reduced fee to encourage such a lifestyle and to reflect that they’re not the ones costing the system a lot (in general fat people cost the health care system more than skinny people)

This caused an OUTRAGE by fat people that they were being shamed, made second class citizens and the what not.
They were using exactly this type of language “dismantle an oppressive system” when it was really an idea to offset rising health care costs as obesity rises...

stop crying oppression smdh

And keep in mind, people like Lizzo discriminate against larger people too. Do you see people of a larger size (male or female) going after other people of larger size? I've noticed that about some people of larger size, it's okay for them to be large However, they tend to find fit people attractive.

All those twitter losers under the replies trying to justify this false equivalence: 'but fat people can't lose weight too, it's physically impossible for some...' except we've seen with shows like My 600 pound Life, it IS possible to shift the weight with gastric bypass, determination and effort.

We are seeing so many great fitness trainers who were obese/diabetic and/or their wholeeee family are obsese, and they were heading on that track themselves. But again, with determination, passion and drive, they changed their whole lives around.

The excuses these people come up with is just so BAD, it's laughable. Pure comedy.
