Hello I am from the Kansas area and after college (I have 3 years left) I was looking at moving to Houston Texas. How would I do it first do I accept a job and then move or do I just move there and then find a job.

Also are there any specific areas in Houston that would be great for a single black woman I want a apartment or a condo

I would definitely browse for something first before actually moving anywhere. There’s no guarantee that you’ll find a job. A lot of places are doing video call interviews due to covid, so I would make sure that I had something lined up first.

The Heights is a great area. It’s not exactly a black area but you can find a nice apartment that is close to a lot of stuff, especially downtown. I wouldn’t mind living there in the future.

You should move to a city based on your chosen profession. Things are going to be different so wait 2 years and then start searching. Things will be different from peoples perspectives today. Good luck with school!

I’m from the Kansas area too!! I’ll be moving to Dallas in a month or two. One of my friends relocated to Houston last year and she loves it. She lives in a suburb called Katy I believe.

I can really only speak on Texas from the perspective of someone who doesnt live in Houston and is new theirselves but a great job market compared to other cities like my hometown (Philadelphia). You could get a decent job out here without a degree so having a degree at that in your situation will put you in a good way off the bat. I was surprised coming down here how many jobs have great wages. Texas is technically the south but it gives some norther cities a run for their money. Surprisingly progressive too. I expected to face alot more racism and yet (to my knowledge) haven't dealt with any yet and I live nearly two hours away from town. If this was a post or preCovid world id feel like this part of Texas is paradise. Don't let that let your guard down but its not as cut throat as I thought i'd be.
