Grow mint by itself. It's a weed. That sh!t ain't going nowhere. You can't kill mint. Don't reuse that soil either. It's officially mint soil.
Thanks, I’ve heard mint is an aggressive narcissistic colonizing bish. I’ve never grown it indoors but if you grow it outdoors without some sort of confinement, your in trouble.

I’ve made such amazing progress with my small sized garden.

So far my garden is producing:

Vegetables: Carrots, Swiss chard, bloomsdale spinach, lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, leeks, arugula

Herbs & Flowers: Calendula, nasturtiums, cilantro, chives, marigolds

So ecstatic to finally see flower blooms from the calendula and nasturtiums

Yaaaa I am so glad to find this thread too...

Also this new year after looking at 50-11 HGTV home decorating shows with big beautiful Fiddle Leaf Palms as decor, I think I'm ready to try one.

Only thing is they are so costly for a full tree sized plant. My fellow plantaholics can you tell me if these indoor palms are tempermental and also if I start with a small affordable table sized fiddle leaf how long will it take for it to get to tree size???
I found mine at Costco for $30 two years ago. I just started seeing them in store at the moment. You can’t get a better deal than that

This year I think I‘ll build some raised garden beds as I ran outta space last year.
my mom and I usually plant a variety of tomatoes, cucumbers, green peppers, purple peppers, eggplants, string beans, kale, watermelon and a variety of flowers.

This year I will try for the first time: beets, cantaloupe, zucchini, and carrots.

It’s so relaxing to go out into the backyard with a little pail to pick my veggies lol

Seed starters really changed the game for me. I need to get a grow light next because my poor little plants are leaning towards the window trying to get some light. They were originally outside under direct sunlight but then it hot too cold.

I will say though once I took my seedlings inside they just sprouted right up a few days later. So Definitely was too much sun or too much heat.

Peppermint seeds take so long to germinate. It's been 10 days and only 1 TINY little sprout has popped up.

My seeds are doing well. I'm going to try transplanting my carrots in 2 weeks.

I may have to restart some of my kale.

Everything else is looking pretty good.

My green beans just came up.

Does anyone know where I can find an affordable trellis that works?

Lowes has some good trellises anywhere from 8.00 to 14.00

So my carrots died. I have new carrot seeds that I planted that are germinating now.

Honestly most of my seedlings died except my kale, spinach, and green bean (that sh!t is thriving even if I don't water it!)

Peppermint seed update:
WTF. I used a old ramen container and ziplock bag. Well, I left the ziplock bag open for 2 days and it dried out. There goes 1/2 the seedlings.

My mom, while moving around flowers, picked up the bag like vertically. I was so shocked I didn't say anything. So, the soil shifted and these daman tiny seeds need to be on top. There goes the rest of seedlings.

Then, I added the last of the seeds from the packet to the container. There was a thunderstorm and knocked over the container. I'm sure I can salvage something since the seeds were added only a few days ago. I just need a more shallow container and a better spot to place it.

Other seeds update:
I panted 4 sweet pepper seeds. They are doing fine. However, my mom used all the seeds for the pak choi, lettuce, tomatoes and sweet pepper. All of it this in 1 raised 5' planter box. e5 Might need to buy/make grow bags. I don't like thinning. It seems wasteful.

Update ... my melons are doing that work. Most have their second leaves or it's coming in soon. I will wait til it gets at least 10 leaves to transplant most to their forever homes.

I rarely grow peppers but I had green/red peppers and said YOLO (these heifers are slow af)

My green bean plant is still thriving and had a carrot growing with it ... I may transplant it in another week because def needs more space. I have to find my bigger planters. I wanted to get gallon sized buckets from restaurants but no luck cos I refuse to buy them. Worst case will use my fabric planters but you gotta water often with dem.

My carrots (I over planted and they have multiple leaves ... I have more than I need AND TRANSPLANTED some into their forever home. So far so good!

Swiss chard, kale, and spinach are growing their first true leaves now. I fertilize once a week and switch between 2.

My strawberries should be in at the end of April because I ordered the bare roots, but didn't want them delivered til it's nicer. I may change the type but idk.

My regular plants ... everything is growing additional leaves and need to be repotted. It's a scam!

I may grow some tomatoes because I have a pot where that makes it simple.

If my garden goes well ... I will be giving some of my seedlings to my aunt to plant in her backyard.

I don't thin unless it's dead or not likely to make it.

I legit seperate each one and replant them. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I have one pot where it was super successful and the other not so successful.

I think I bought bad soil from Amazon. I will NEVER buy anything from Amazon again related to gardening (it was a good sale on my normal brand, but this soil refuses keep water. It's so damn dry.

I want to plant again, but last time my cucumbers tasted like dirt. That never happened before I’m going to chalk it up to having to buy hybrid plants. I don’t trust those.

I might just do a fairy garden again this year.

it’s a bit harder for me in chicago because where I used to live, I was right next door to the states largest nursery so I got the best plants and soil. Now I don’t know where to buy from in chicago.

I did more transplanting ... I killed some kale and carrots ... make sure you don't miss watering them.

Carrots smell so damn amazing when they grow. I accidentally put it to my face when I was transplanting it and baby I could have eaten the leaves right now. I'm wondering if I should just give the 2 carrots cells to my aunt. I have 2 pots of carrots ... I don't need anymore. I overplanted because I thought I would kill more things than I did.

I did a light fertilizing of my plants ... the melons (I have one that hasn't gotten it's seed off it's head. The others are doing amazingly). She finna have fresh watermelon and cantaloupe one way or another. I'm not playing with these damn seedlings. They better act tright

I started transplanting some of my swiss chards. I think I'm going to transplant my green peppers this week.

Honestly, I'm running out of pots I bought some pots from dollar tree yesterday. They had some 10 gallon planters for a buck. I got 4. The best dollar trees for me are in the ghetto cos they are not using none of the gardening stuff. They always have stuff mine never got. My dollar tree is out of planters period.

Had a bit of disaster - one of my heat mats was way too hot. Couldn't figure out why nothing sprouted. I tested the soil and it was WAY too hot. Have to start that tray over again.

On the plus side, I have string beans, cantaloupe, watermelon, cabbage, lettuce and marigolds coming up.

Everything is doing fine. I fertilized everything today and did some replanting.

Ran out of soil. Imma try Miracle Gro potting soil since it's on sale. Has anyone used that?

Okay, so some of the seedlings were moved to the front yard. Some of the pak choi in the front are bolting. The tomatoes and sweet peppers are doing well. However, I've noticed about 1/4 are really growing while the others are taking longer.

I still haven't bought grow bags.

thanks! what else do you add?

All of my kitchen scraps, tea leaves, shredded cardboard, most organic matter that you can add. I've put egg shells in but they take forever to breakdown and I'm not going to grind /roast them like others.

I should clarify, I have two bins in my yard for composting. I added earthworms on Saturday to spread up the process.

Any city dwellers have a rooftop garden? When I get a place, I’m sure it won’t have a yard so I want to make my rooftop garden my oasis. I want to plant small trees, shrubs and flowers. Is that actually plausible? I know there are pots that can grow potted, but what I’ve read they say it’s best to eventually take them out of the pot.

So pretty! My grandma have some black bearded iris and I've come to appreciate their velvety beauty! But I love pink so I'd love to get some pink iris in the yard too!

Reiterate is really gorgeous with its hint of mauve and its bright orange beard. Black irises sound stunning! I’m loving spending more time in my garden, and I’m growing some seedlings — a passion fruit vine, dwarf pomegranate, avocados and four different sunflowers. Teddy Bear, Velvet Queen, Italian White and Dwarf Sunspot.

I was wondering if anyone in this form has any information on dead or dying trees. Can a tree go from completely healthy to dead in 6 weeks or would that indicate that the tree was poisoned? btw the tree is 14 years old

You might want to check with your local arborist club or tree specialist club in your area. We had a long standing tree die quickly and found out thru a local club that it was a type of bug infestation.

The garden is coming in. I feel like the sweet bell peppers should be farther along though. I finally decided on grow bags. I adopted several plants for 2 of my grow bags. Grow bags need so much soil. I got ten 7-gal bags. A large bag of soil would fill 3.5-4, none to the brim. I also feel like the flower seed mix should be further along but seeing how my mom refuses to let the seedlings get their 6+ hours of direct sunlight....

I wish I had planted more. It's too late to try sweet potatoes and anything else I'll have to buy already started and not from seeds. I'm cheap. Seeds are cheap.

Mint. I don't don't know if the mint is going to grow or not. Hell, I don't even think whatever the tiny green sprouts are mint or something wind blew in. The mint that's in the house is doing well.

I'm in zone 6 and peppers are just starting to come up. Tomatoes further along.
I love cat mint and spearmint to crush up and smell and add fresh to water... so good!
Once that mint takes hold, it can spread pretty quickly. I love how it's tough as old boots and will be some of the first to green up in the spring!
I don't know about your weather there, but it's been colder than normal and taking longer to start seeds. Once it heats up, everything will be okay though. Every year is an adventure!
