I prefer skating because it’s easier on my knees at my age, when I was in college I really enjoyed running it was such a great stress reliever.
I’d rather skate. Where can I get a nice pair? I tried to get some from academy awhile back and it wasn’t quite what I was looking For. I can roller blade or skate but I think skates are so cute and want a pair.
Y'all making me want to buy some skates.
I’m biased. I cannot run. I’m too slow for short distances and don’t have the discipline to pace myself for long distances.
So, there is only ONE answer to this question:
*FYI- for those of you contemplating buying skates. I created a thread devoted to skating equipment. People share their experiences with equipment in that thread.
Roller Skating Equipment
Hi, Roller skating as everyone knows is experiencing a “revival”. I thought it might be a good idea to make a thread where we can post information about equipment (skates, pads, helmets, retailers). I think this would be helpful to anyone interested in purchasing new skates. Be advised, at...www.lipstickalley.com

Check out the following hashtag 365skatechallenge. There are people posting who’ve never skated prior to their attempts on that hashtagI want to learn but I’m too embarrassed to fall in public lol part of the reason I never learned to ride a bike. I’ll check out your thread though bc now I’m intrigued!

rollerblading is different from roller skates? Lemme go ask Siri wassupI started rollerblading in March and I love it now that I’m not afraid of falling lol. Have lost 11lbs since then and yes it does activate all ur muscles. I don’t remember the last time my stomach looked so flat. Oh and yes it is easier on the knees. I plan on learning on roller skates soon too. I do run occasionally and also hike and I’ve lost more weight in a faster amount of time rollerblading.

How did you get over the fear of falling?I started rollerblading in March and I love it now that I’m not afraid of falling lol. Have lost 11lbs since then and yes it does activate all ur muscles. Yup, I originally got rollerblades because I have nerve damage on my foot and apparently it’s better over all for your ankles and such. I thought once I learned those I’d just be able to hop on roller skates with no problem and apparently that’s not the case. I’ve even met a couple of rollerbladers who are really good at it learning to roller skate and they were falling like they’ve never been on wheels before smh. I did read that rollers skates are more stable tho. Idk, either way I’m gonna do both but I chose inlines first because of my nerve damage.rollerblading is different from roller skates? Oh man my very first fall was the worse, fell face first and my helmet (thank goodness I had it on) bounced off the pavement so hard, I split my lip and even my wrist gaurds weren’t enough to keep my hands from scraping. I actually gave up for a bit, then found a basketball court with a fence surrounding it and pretty much practiced there holding on to the fence whenever I felt like I was gonna fall. I would skate back and forth near the fence from one end to the other. I didn’t even realize when I started being less afraid, I just went to practice one day and when I got up on the skates I didn’t feel wobbly and my heart wasn’t beating hard. I started to get more comfortable and started skating in the middle but would go close to the fence when I felt nervous. I still fall when I try to do to much, but usually on my butt and those falls are not as painful lol. If you watch videos they actually tell you to practice falling. They tell you to try to fall on ur hands and knees but I’ve only falling like that once. This week I’m gonna go try and skate at the beach (no fence) so we’ll see how that goes!! Good luck if ur planning on learning. It really does become fun when ur not scared. How did you get over the fear of falling?
I know you didn’t quote me but one of the most important lessons in skating is learning how to fall. When I feel I’m getting ready to fall I bend my knees and get a little low to the ground all while slowing down. That usually stops me from falling but when I do it’s not as hard. You really want to avoid falling on your knees and butt. I’m an indoor skater so I don’t skate with pads and the when I was first learning how to skate I came home will all kinds of bruises, I didn’t sit down once that night. I fell in love with skating after that even though I was in a little pain. Here are 3 videos that should help. How did you get over the fear of falling?
I think you should give it a try. There are about 5 older people I see at the rink all the time. I don’t know their exact ages but I’m sure they’re all over the age of 65. They skate beautifully and without any padding or helmets.God I've always wanted to learn how to skate. But I'm at the age where I'm too afraid now lool. I may try it soon though.
Yes, I have been told they are different .rollerblading is different from roller skates? Lemme go ask Siri wassup
