My Father
My dad’s communities are spot on being that his grandfather’s parents were born in Chidester, AR & Claiborne Parish, LA. Those that still live down south on this side now reside in Texarkana, AR/TX

My Maternal Grandfather
I’m amazed my grandad still doesn’t have any communities, although we did these tests years ago.

Well congrats my Spanish cousin!
Ha Ha Ha!

Look at how we all mark heavily on Congo and Nigeria even though Ghana has profited nicely on ‘ancestry tourism.’

Yes! The communities is how you know these tests are legit. While some of the ‘countries’ and ‘percentages’ do change over time......how do they get the communities correct?

It is so nice you tested your grandpa.

Communities are match dependant. I have only one Community, "Early Virginia African Americans like OP" but I found confirmation of this on both sides of my parental lineage. But yeah, the genetic communities are the best thing about AncestryDNA IMO. Especially wrt the Pre Civil War Black Population Descendants aka Black Americans.

Nice to know. Smart to test your Dad and Granddad.
Will you test Mom and Grandmom.

Are you worried that your dna will be used in perpetuity to do whatever? That is why I dont do the test.

Also dont these companied share your DNA with FBI database, so they are able to track/trace any relation that may be suspected of a crime.

Yea, this is what I meant because my first Ancestry.com test had 30 countries. Maybe 7 years ago.

Then the results keep updating and when community became available a few years ago I got Puerto Rico (which is correct) and now I stand at 25 countries.

It is so shocking to see your community.....bc, then you know your results are pretty close to the truth.

Yes, one day I’ll do my mom & grandmother too.

Also, when you do these tests, you’re given the right to approve or decline sharing of your DNA for multiple reasons (Research mainly, but storage in data banks is also a factor). I declined. So, if anything ever did happen with my DNA. I could sue.

Same, but she may not be completely or intentionally lying. I discovered through ancestral research that my 3rd great-grandmother on my mom’s side wasn’t Native. She was an African orphan, raised by Natives until her Uncle raised her. So, she grew up in that culture and taught her children the Choctaw culture. I have pictures of her in her traditional attire.

There’s a lot of history that’s not taught and leads to the misconception that one has heritage they do not. Your family could be similar to my own.

23andme and ancestry don't. Ftdna shares their database when asked by the FBI, but law enforcement uses gedmatch which is a free genetic genealogy community where users voluntarily upload their raw dna. Gedmatch even states that it's voluntary and that law enforcement has access to the site.

Completly Forgot I made this thread. There are updates for March 26th, 2022

I did end up testing my mom. Maternal grandmother doesn’t trust it. Paternal grandmother unfortunately passed and I don’t know paternal grandfather.

These are my moms results. Looks like she picked up both of my grandparents birth places. Linden, AL & McCool, MS

Yet another update:

Just got home from a dinner meeting my new uncle we found on Ancestry.

It’s safe to say that my dad & uncle are happy to finally have a blood brother. They got along so well. Everything felt natural. We discussed how we came to know about ome another, how we grew up. Joked about random stuff and argued about sports (my uncle is a got damn Viking fans. The cheese head in me was disappointed. Lol)

It was a great day!

Tomorrow we’re doing bbq by the poolat my dad’s. Then, we’re going to Top Golf at night.

This was huge for my dad because he always thought his dad hated him. His actual dad is deceased and he’s no longer the hated love child.

(All my grandfather’s kids have different mom’s. Ghe-tto lol)
