Japanese easily. Out of all the East Asian countries, they have the weakest cuisine by far! Sushi might be the most overrated dish on the planet.

Italian is basic as well, but they produced every day staples so I’ll be easy on them.

They don't only have sushi though. Japanese is not my absolute favorite, but their cuisine goes beyond sushi and tempura.

I never said they only had sushi, but it’s the main reason their cuisine is elevated globally.

None of them. When bad food becomes normalized and ubiquitous it hard to understand why anyone would find it tasty.

I think we get to this point because many people eat bad versions of all these foods.
Like the thread where people were adding grape jelly spaghetti sauce.

When you have good quality pasta ( Where you can eat it all by itself) and using tomatoes that aren't high in acid. The hype fits.
Having Kobe beef and tongue was some of the best beef I had in my life. It was flavorful, tender, moist and nothing eaten with the beef overpowered the flavor.

China is diverse in their foods and flavors but it isn't represented well in the U.S.A. I can't name a single GOOD Chinese food place without going to Chinatown in NYC and when I go it depends on what I'm getting the hotpot places don't do good dumplings and visa versa.
Girl i went to chinatown here!!! And the food was horrific !!!! Horrible !!! I want to go back just to see the beautiful buildings and the decor ! It was like traveling to Asia ( i know it probably dont look like that in real life ). But the food they messed up all of our dishes.

Italian. Anyone saying that Japanese or Chinese food is overhyped probably only eats Panda Express or sushi from the grocery store, or thinks ramen is the only Japanese food. I've lived in Italy and I still say Italian food is overhyped. True Chinese (different regions) and Japanese food are among the most sophisticated cuisines around.

Overhyped: French food.

Yes, but is the version catered to local taste, or authentic?
Also, based on what regional Italian cuisine? Even in the U.S., most Italian food is a bastardized version of SOME southern Italian dishes. Stuff that's traditionally eaten in other regions is usually found in only very high end restaurants in the U.S., for instance.
I lived in Italy for quite a while and in a lot of regions, there's so much more on the menu than what foreigners typically go for.

Also, if one doesn't like vegetables, a whole portion of these cuisines are probably never even tasted by some.

Chinese food is so overrated IMO It’s oily greasy and lacks flavour
It’s also full of MSG on the rare occasion I’ve eaten Chinese food from takeaway or a upscale restaurant I’m thirsty and dehydrated for hours afterwards

Lol, I can tell some of y'all live in west bumblefuck because y'all think Olive Garden style Italian food and PF Chang's Chinese food constitutes "real" Italian or Chinese food, lol.

For me, I'd have to go with Japanese, mostly because it's never looked appealing to me and it's not something I've had a lot of experience with. But legit Chinese food, Korean food, REAL Italian food but especially REAL Indian food is the sh!t! I live in NYC so I've been exposed to different types of cuisine from different cultures since I was a small child.

You missed the point of the thread. It's what cuisine you think is overrated. Not a flex that you live in NYC. So back to the point what food do you find overrated

The gag is that a lot of these dishes are americanized. If you go to those actual countries you won't even find half that sh!t that they serve here and brand as "cultural food".

Americanized Italian food is so basic. It’s literally just meat, sauce, cheese, and some kind of dough every single time. Pasta is also one of the most flavorless and pointless dishes

Go to any major city or any bougie and hipster area and you see these cuisine restaurants touted as some culture thing. In my opinion, I am the type that has to be in the mood for food like this buy people are so freaking crazy about this kind of food. Anytime you watch Food or Cooking shows there is always some cook or chef bragging about cooking a mean pasta.

Italian...that sh!t is nasty in my opinion and definitely overhyped.

Chinese food is known to be bad news (poor hygiene, mystery meat etc), but Japanese food can also be exorbitant and too salty (miso soup, my goodness!). A toss up between the two, really.

I think if you make these things at home, you can adjust them to your dietary requirements. Recipes are out there and fairy straightforward.

Google the world wars and Italy and Japan's alignment with Nazism.
I know exactly who they colonized. I wanted to know in which colonized countries the font thought the food was better. The rest I know about too. I've lived over here in Europe for ages, including Italy.

Italians are one trick ponies. so I'm going with them. It's either pizza or pasta with them. Maybe a soup once in a while.
Considering the average Italian ( not Italian-Americans) doesn't even eat carbs in the evening, UNLESS it's an evening out with friends, and even that, the pasta or rice would be a 1st course, what do you think they're eating as a second course or for dinner??

I love different ethnic foods BUT I'd have to go with Italian. Very basic. Unless made right but even then, the meals are still basic.

Chinese for sure! Yuck.

but my mom makes awesome Chinese from scratch and this thread reminded me to call and ask her to make fried rice and kung pao this weekend. She spends 2 hours making the veggie fried rice because of the ingredients and seasonings

JAPANESE most people in our generation are only interested in it because of anime. Even me a whole anime fan girl can tell you that i only like ramen and sushi and some of their snacks maybe.

Chinese and italian food almost never miss.

But it is weird that most of the most hyped up meals come from europe or east asia HMMMMMMM

Chinese. Too spicy, oily, greasy, salty, etc. Just makes you feel like you drank a bottle of oil that's bubbling in your guts.

At least when I eat japanese, I always feel refreshed and light. And italian food includes pizza, so...

Indian. It’s mostly people who aren’t used to food with seasoning hyping it up to crazy levels.

This right here. And it’s definitely not authentic Indian food either. I had the authentic stuff at my Indian friend’s coming of age party back when I was in middle school and it was so damn spicy I could only eat in small bites. If I, as a Nigerian, was having a hard time, your average white wouldn’t even stand a chance.
