'It was a scene out of a horror movie': Mother is forced to leave her home after 5,500 bats drop dead in her front yard – covering the ground with blood and carcasses
  • A woman has described scores of dead bats outside her home as a 'horror movie'
  • Philippa Schroor opened her front door Tuesday to 5,500 rotten bats on her lawn
  • It comes as thousands of dead bats fall from the skies due to a massive heatwave
  • Another resident praised volunteers for their persistent clean-up efforts
A mother-of-two has described her home being surrounded by rotting bat carcasses as a 'scene out of a horror movie'.

Philippa Schroor opened her front door on Tuesday morning to find thousands of maggot-filled dead bats on the lawn of her Edmonton home, south of Cairns.

Ms Schroor is one of dozens of residents forced to find temporary accommodation as a heatwave sweeping through Queensland kills bats in droves.

Heat-stressed bats have been falling from the skies since the temperature first topped 40C last Sunday.

Ms Schroor says she thinks more than 5,500 have fallen on her property in the past week, with the consistently increasing remains forcing her and her two children from their family home.

'It was a scene out of a horror movie and there is still putrefied rotting carcasses are everywhere,' she told the Cairns Post.

Ms Schroor and her children have stayed at a hotel for the past five nights.

She claims clean-up crews fail to make a dent in the bodies as of yet.

'I cannot return home until I get a cleaner to scrub my walls, furniture, linen, vehicle upholstery before the smell has permeated everything. This is a public health issue.'

Her unease towards the situation has been echoed by fellow Edmonton resident Lisa Eagleton, who told Daily Mail Australia the entire bat colony was either 'hanging in trees or dead on the ground'.

'In those yellow plastic bins are at least 60 to 80 dead bats,' she said, referring to a dozen bins outside her home.

'And then in every bag you see there's another 20 to 25 dead bats from behind my house.'

Cleaning efforts have been hindered by the slew of bats dropping dead on the roads, rotting in a 'purified mess'.

But volunteer groups are persisting, with a trio of Indigenous Rangers helping Ms Eagleton remove more than 2,000 bats from her backyard for three days straight.

The red-lidded bins supplied by the council, which would usually be used for general waste, were later removed and replaced with yellow biohazard-style ones.

Division 1 councillor Brett Moller, who has seen the mass animal deaths firsthand, says an emergency meeting with the mayor will be held on Monday to determine what the next move is.

OMG memories. A bat got in my house through the fireplace and I didn't know he was in there until I heard something moving behind a big picture in my bedroom. Mom come over to help me peek and see what was back there. A little bat was hanging upside down on the picture wire!!Eventually we moved the picture a bit too much and it flew out. We were running around screaming. The bat eventually flew back out of the fireplace.

The lesson- Always keep your fireplace closed.

All I can say about the OP is that I dont think I could have lived through that many bats in my yard.

It is always sad and disturbing when large groups of the same mammal die all at once. Whales washing ashore together en mass is the same type of thing.

But when it happens to you directly.....that is some sort of bad juju I do not want.

Twice in my life I have awoken to a single bat flying in my house. Twice I calmly caught the bat in a basket and released it outside.

Even my dog was calm. She just sat back and watched.

They are fairly gentle animals.

Guess I'm gonna be on YouTube watching adorable bat videos all day now.

But did you have to chase them/ how did they get in the basket?

Remember I killed a bat aty dad's house. Knocked it with a broom and stomped the sh!t out of it. LMAO and left it for my dad to discard. I closed the door and told him where it was upon his return.

OMG, so many emotions towards this post. The hell, I was 15. It was it or me. I chose me. It was 9p.m. I had to sleep and I couldn't get the proper zzzZzZz's with it alive. Idc.

These bats fell in Australia. Don't forget this happened just last week in New Zealand:

What's going on in the land down under?

I know they're saying it's probably related to the heat but...this woman probably got some kinda witchcraft going on at her property.:cautious:

When she gives birth to the anti-christ she can't say she wasn't warned.

She's a witch.

If it ain't that it's something, this is definitely a message. If I was her, I would be be rebuking whatever it was in the in the almighty name of JESUS honey.

Something is going on.

ALL OF THIS. This doesn’t happen by consequence or sheer luck. The woman and/or a relative either practices in something occultic, or someone has put some sort of curse on her and/or her home.

There’s something much darker at play with this...

When I hear about large groups of animals dying like this I get very concerned. Every being plays a part here on earth. And bats are one of the few pollinating mammals. Do you like to eat? Thank a pollinator.
