I used a different base coat and my nails are lifting already. I will stick to what I know.

Getting my hands done (acrylic) last month woke something up in me again. I was a DIY girlie from 2017-2020 then with the pandemic + stressful job I hadn’t tended to my hands in a while and even reverted back to nail biting due to stress.

I went to a salon, showed them a design and got nowhere near the same smh but it’s lasted three weeks so far. I went back into my nail bin (50L of polish collecting dust lol) and remembered I’d bought my own things to do acrylic, polygel, or regular builder gel nails. Have e-file, hand files, full and half tips I need to get it together.

Bought some neon polishes to get me in the mood I’m doing my nails this weekend (builder gel + half tips).
I want to be a woman with her nails done again this year, I miss taking care of me. I’ll still do pedicures at the salon though I like the spa treatment.

Do you use one that soaks off or do you have to file it off? I did builder gel overlays for a while but I switched to basic gel polish because I hated filing it all the way down and found infills super annoying. I prefer being able to soak gel off but I haven’t been able to grow my nails out as quickly as I’d like because they’re not as strong with just gel. I’m considering going back to overlays but I want to avoid the filing

I use soak off gels, but I have to file 'em down really low or else the soaking takes foooooreeeeeeverrrr. The nail strength with builder gel just cannot be beat though.

I use 2 old plastic containers, both the same size. 1 container for acetone, then the other to put hot water in. I boil hot water and place it in the non-acetone container, then place the acetone container on top with cotton balls/pads. My dip powder or gel polish comes off within 10-13 minutes. Instead of soaking off for 30 minutes with foil wraps. Just make sure the container used to soak off with can fit both hands inside.
Sorry for bumping old thread but I was looking for nail soak tips. Is this to warm up the acetone? Does that make it soak off faster because it's warm?

Not the person you’re responding to, but yes it does. I’ve had this done at the salon and I’ve done it myself at home. The heat makes a difference

thanks, I just ordered those containers above because you can put the boiling water in the bottom. I want to get these things off but the idea of soaking for an hour gives me anxiety, lol

Yes! The hot water warms up the acetone. Gel Polish comes off easy with this method, as well as Acrylics or Hard Gels.

Do you file them first? I like to file them down as low as I can with my e-file and then soak. It makes it go way faster. If you don’t have an e-file you can also just use a hand file

The bowl set I ordered from Amazon comes with some special rough nail files so I can use those to take off the gel coat and rough up the acrylic surface to help the soak go faster. I’ll report back on how it goes.

I think tonight I'm going to do a mani pedi. It's been way too long and I feel like I want to be at least a little cute.

I stopped doing my nails late last year because it felt like I was constantly cleaning the house and ruining them. I've invested in some cleaning gloves.

Cute nails all 2024!

I use a regular 180 grit to gentle file the top coat off my nails, in this case dip powder. My soak-off time is usually 10 minutes 13-15 if I've had dip powder on longer than 2 weeks.

I wear gloves always when I'm cleaning and washing dishes. It's a must if you don't like getting your nails done every 2 weeks.

Went to a new nail tech and loved the whole experience, now one week later one the nails popped off. Idk how to feel yall. It's a nude manicure with builder gel and whole thing just popped off.
Maybe I take too long showers in too hot water ???

Idk why my thing quoted you twice, but oh well.

I would be disappointed too. When I started doing builder gel manis I read that some women wear disposable gloves in the shower (secured by rubber band) so as to limit prolonged water exposure, along with gloves during dishes. I definitely find that my nails last longer and have minimal lifted spots when I use gloves. When I wash my hair, be it in the sink or shower, I wear the gloves, and I use a silicone shampoo massager with long teeth (example pictured below) to really cleanse my scalp.

I have one those brushes for hair, but I don't use gloves.
Do you use those thick rubber gloves?

You've got beautiful long nail beds, and that color is super flattering.

I thought about posting a picture of the gloves! :ROFLMAO: Lemme do it now.

I've purchased both of these before, depending on which was cheaper at the time. They're not too thick but they're flexible. They both work great and even stand up to multiple shower uses (wash your hands before you don the gloves, bathe/lotion/etc, wash and dry your gloved hands before turning the glove inside out to remove from your hand, set aside for next use).

Thanks, I wish I had some press on glue to glue it back :ROFLMAO:

Thank you so much. I hate those bright yellow gloves

I’ve been trying 3 Day Keratin by nail aid to strengthen my weak nails. So far it’s working, my nails aren’t breaking anymore and there has been growth. But I may be impatient because I want them to be longer already lol but it’s only been 2 weeks.
