About Lipstick Alley

This site is an offshoot of eddiegeorge.com, the personal website of former Tennessee Titans running back Eddie George, who is now retired from the NFL.

On the message board at eddiegeorge.com, ladies gathered and dished on celebs, athletes and their encounters with them. To get a feel for how the gossip flowed at that time check out the LSA Classic Posts forum.

Eventually, things got too hot to handle on the board and Eddie asked that the forum be disassociated from his website. Janitor, who managed eddiegeorge.com, moved the forum to a domain that he owned named lipstickalley.com. That's when Lipstick Alley was born.

Some notes from Janitor:

"People always ask how the name LipStickAlley.com came about. Back around 1999, on Rapmusic.com we had a IP Chat program called HearMe Chat. Alot of the members used to hang out in the chat room each night listening to everyone talk. We had a few female members who would come in the chat room taking over the mic and start talking. I knew then we needed a forum just for the females to chill and post. I came up with the name on the fly, not thinking it would catch on.

When I started Eddie's site, the message board was really for fans who wanted to talk about Eddie and his career, sports talk, Ohio State Buckeyes and the Titans. Little did I know that it would turn into a forum with 95% females taking it over, lol. It was almost like a science drama project. I concluded that if you put 100 females in a room, they would eventually have a cat fight sooner or later! If you put 100 men into a room (as long as there is no alcohol) they would get along and find something to do such as flipping quarters against the wall or playing cards. Lol.

The move to lipstickalley.com: I had to move the forum off Eddie's site. It was getting out of hand with all the drama on the site... I would get players hitting me up complaining about certain posts. Issues would get back to Eddie, and he didn't have time to mess with it. Once we went live with the new domain name and forum - it just kept growing and the drama never stopped. Lol.

The Current Lipstick Alley

In 2006 Janitor decided to move on and sell the board, giving all monies to a worthy charity, (who said there are no good men left in the world?). The board was purchased by one of the forum members, Curious Too, who now goes by the name “The Admin.” Angry, narrow minded members who want the forum operated their way will occasionally state that the Admin must be a white woman, white male, or no longer the owner of LSA, all of which is not true. The Admin is an African American woman who, despite many challenges over the past 7 years, still owns Lipstick Alley.

Some pretty ugly things happened on the forum between 2004 and 2006, including the exposure of the true identities of some of the forum members. People understandably became gun shy when it came to gossiping because being exposed could hurt the “insiders” careers. When the forum changed hands The Admin felt that while the members may be reluctant to gossip, there were plenty of other topics they could freely discuss and expanded the board with new forums. The result is today's very active Lipstick Alley, which averages about 10,000 posts and 35,000 unique visitors per day.

The Community

While Lipstick Alley members are predominantly African American females, all races and genders are welcome to join.

If you are sensitive or have a “delicate constitution” this is probably not the forum for you. We allow profanity (just not in thread titles). We have heated discussions about volatile topics such as unwed mothers, interracial dating, obesity and colorism. We sometimes post gruesome news stories about abused children and violent adults. If you can’t stomach these types of topics, don’t join Lipstick Alley.

People who whine, complain and attack when others don’t agree with them are forum cancers. If you can’t tolerate opposing viewpoints, or can’t debate without resorting to personal insults, do us a favor and don't register for the site, just keep it moving.

Newbie Advice

Lurk before posting so you can get a feel for each forum and what is and is not acceptable there.

If you have questions check out the Member Questions Forum. If your question is not answered there, post it and wait for responses.

You need 25 posts before you can create threads, PM members or use the Thanks/Groan/Lol system, so get busy posting.

Your account

You are allowed one account. It's your responsibility to safeguard that account. If your boyfriend/girlfriend uses your account for forum fuckery, that's your problem, not ours. If you forget your password, use the "Forgot Your Password" link. If you no longer have access to the email account listed in your profile, create a new account. We won't update email addresses, there is no way for us to verify your identity.

We use cookies to track users that have multiple accounts. You should only be concerned about the detector going off if you were previously banned. Sometimes we let you try again, sometimes we ban all additional accounts you create. It depends on how awful you were as a forum member.

Usernames and user titles should not use profanity or be offensive. Once you have enough bank (Alleybux) you can purchase new usernames and user titles at the LSA Mart (http://lipstickalley.com/vbshop.php). Other members can change your user title and steal your Alleybux so be sure to purchase immunity as soon as you can afford it. If you change someones user title to something that violates these rules you will receive an infraction or warning.

Signatures and avatars should be work safe. No nudity, no partial nudity, no slurs, no offensive images. You have to purchase (with alleybux, not real money) signatures and custom avatars at the LSA Mart. Don't post referral links in your signature. If you violate these rules we will remove your signature or avatar without notice.

There is no way to close your account. Just change the notification options in your UserCP to "no" and leave. Don't ask us to delete all of your posts, we won't do it.

General Conduct

Don't harass the Admins or Moderators. We have 33,000 active members who all have their own ideas on how this forum should operate. We can't please everyone. If you have civil, constructive criticism to offer, create a thread in the Members Questions forum and we will listen. If you have an issue with a particular moderator, contact that moderator via PM or email. If the issue can't be resolved, contact an administrator. If you launch any personal attacks via forum posts, PMs, rep comments or email against the LSA staff your status will be changed to Inactive without warning.

Moderators are active participants in forum discussions. We understand that a board member my occasionally disagree with a stance that a moderator has taken in regards to a particular discussion and that's ok. Also note that a Moderator may not use their position to "silence" you by deleting your post or banning you from a thread just because they disagree with you. If you feel that this has happened contact an administrator.

Please , no backseat moderating -- don't try to tell other members what they can and cannot post. Don't tell us who should or shouldn't be banned. Don't tell us who should or shouldn't be allowed to join or post on LSA. Don't throw rocks, then hide your hands. We always see you. And remember, while you're pointing a finger at someone, someone else is pointing a finger at you.

Are you following a forum member that you hate from thread to thread, groaning and attacking them with insults? We don't need you to do that. If you think this member has violated a rule, report their posts. If they post something that you disagree with, by all means groan or neg-rep them. If you are groaning their posts not because you disagree with the content, but because you hate the poster, you may login one day to see your rep privileges revoked. If you really can't stomach a board member add them to your ignore list. Find one of their posts, then click on their name. Select “add (member name) to your ignore list” from the drop down menu. You will no longer see their posts or reputation comments.

If you don’t want to receive private messages from a particular member add them to your PM Block List. You can find the PM Block List in the user control panel under “Edit Options.”

You can also make your profile private so that only people on your friends list can leave visitor messages. To make your profile private go to your Usercp ==> Profile Privacy.

If you think a particular forum is stupid and seeing the topics posted to that forum turns your stomach, don't create threads telling us the forum is stupid and should be deleted. Instead, add the forum to your ignore list. Click the “Forum Tools” link at the top of the forum, then click “Ignore Forum.”

Don't whine and complain to us about trolls. From past experience we know that "troll" usually means someone who disagrees with you philosophically or on certain topics. Disagreeing with you is not against the rules. Not liking the same celebrity that you like is not against the rules. If the "troll" is actually breaking a rule, report them. Otherwise place that member on your ignore list.

Being that this is an adult community, we expect the members to be mature enough to scroll past or ignore board members and topics they find distasteful. It only takes a few seconds. Please don't campaign for someone you dislike to be banned. One members troll is another member's favorite poster. If you feel someone is a troll the easiest thing to do is ignore them. If you feed them, don’t complain when they return for more.

If your behavior warrants you being banned, it could be temporary with reading but not posting privileges (Inactive), temporary with no privileges (Benched) or permanent (Waived). We issue infractions and warnings when you violate the forum rules. Each infraction is worth a certain number of points.

25 points = Inactive for 1 day
40 points = Inactive for 2 days
50 points = Inactive for 3 days
65 points = Inactive for 5 days
75 points = Banned for 1 day
90 points = Banned for 3 days
100 points = Banned for 5 days

Constantly being benched or inactive will eventually cause you to be waived.

Freedom of speech, just watch what you post

  • Hate speech directed toward a particular racial, ethnic, xesual or religious group is not allowed under any circumstances in any forum. This includes PMs, visitor messages, graffiti and rep comments.

  • Racial, ethnic, and religious slurs are not allowed under any circumstances in any forum. This includes PMs, visitor messages, graffiti and rep comments.

  • Slurs against homosexuals, lesbians, bisexuals and transgenders are not allowed under any circumstances in any forum. This includes PMs, visitor messages, graffiti and rep comments.

  • Posting or implying identifying information about board members or their family members is not allowed. This includes photos, name, address, phone number, place of employment, twitter pages, facebook, etc. This also includes sharing info via PMs, visitor messages, graffiti or rep comments. You must have permission to re-post any photo that has been previously posted.

  • Using Lipstick Alley to post identifying information about members of other forums is not allowed.

  • Witch hunt threads asking about the race or xesual orientation of members are not allowed.

  • Trying to circumvent the "no slurs" rule by using hurtful stereotypes is not allowed. For example, using "*******" to refer to white people, "ghetto beasts" to refer to African Americans and "beaner" to refer to Mexicans.

  • The use of "*****" and similar spellings may or may not be a violation depending on the context in which it is used. If you use it, you are at the mercy of the moderators for that particular forum as to whether or not the usage is offensive.

  • xesual topics, including but not limited to celebrity dick reports and celebs you have slept with, are not allowed on the main forum. Post them in the XES Club group or the Celebrity Darkroom instead.

  • Explicit photos are not allowed on the main forum. This includes simulated xes, and partially nude people. Women in bikinis are considered partially nude. Post them in the XES Club group or the Celebrity Darkroom instead.

  • Don't use profanity in thread titles. It's a bad look in the Google search listings.

  • Search before you post. If your subject is already posted, contribute to the existing thread instead of creating a new thread.

  • Threads regarding hacking, gambling, illicit drugs, sales of alcohol, tobacco, prescription drugs, and weapons are not allowed.

  • Threads advertising the sale of designer knockoffs are not allowed.

  • Threads regarding the sales or distribution of coursework or student essays are not allowed.

  • Threads regarding programs which compensate users for clicking ads or offers, performing searches, surfing websites or reading emails are not allowed.

  • Discussion of illegal activities such as software and music piracy and other intellectual property violations are not allowed.

  • Posting download links to copyrighted material is not allowed.

  • Creating the same topic in multiple forums (cross posting) is not allowed.

  • Don’t post on behalf of any banned member in any public manner. This includes all forums, private messages, signatures, and e-mail features.

  • Don't use graffiti for flames or insults. If you do, your graffiti privileges will be revoked.
Stuff that annoys us and will probably get you banned from a thread:

  • Telling us how many people are viewing a thread -- everyone can see that for themselves, we don't need you to tell us.

  • Telling us you didn't read a post. What's the point?

  • Replying to a post based on the thread title instead of the post content. This rule is for your own good, people think you aren't smart when you do this.

  • Posts asking “what’s for lunch” when lunch isn’t the topic of the thread.

  • Posts that say nothing more than “subscribed” or “here” or something similar. It’s annoying to open a thread with 50 responses only to see that 48 of the responses are “subscribed.”

  • Launching personal insults against a poster because you disagree with them. Not only will this get you banned from a thread, but eventually you will be banned from the forum.

  • Posting that someone is on your ignore list. You aren't really ignoring them if you have to tell us they are on your ignore list.
Anonymous posting is allowed in the Showbiz Gossip forum, Any Info forum, Almost Famous forum and Ask LSA forum. Only use it in the celebrity forums when you have first hand gossip to share. Only use it in the Ask LSA forum when you are too embarrassed about some relationship dilemma to post under your own username (because LSA never forgets). Using the anonymous posting function to post unpopular opinions because you are a coward will cause your identity to be revealed. Making general comments, re-posting blogs and articles, posting photos without associated first hand gossip and asking questions instead of sharing gossip will cause your identity to be revealed.

You need to drag someone? There's a forum for that -- the Back Alley. Contain all forum beef, flame wars and skull draggery to this forum.

If you clown us with questionable threads, we will move them to the Not Sure If Serious forum. If you continually clown you may login one day to find you can only access that forum.

Don't re-post confessions on the main forum. If the confessor wanted feedback they would have posted there themselves. Don't post x-rated or racist confessions, they will be deleted. Don't post a confession in response to someone else's confession, it will be deleted.

Don't taunt members who are banned or inactive with threads celebrating their new status. It's bad enough that they're banned or inactive.

A note about the Celebrity Discussion Forums - These are not fan forums, they are discussion forums. Some people have very strong feelings when it comes to their favorite celebrity, and can't tolerate any criticism of said celebrity. If this describes you, you will probably save yourself a lot of heartache by posting on your favorite celebs official fan forum instead of Lipstick Alley. Any forum member who continually launches personal attacks in response to criticism of a celebrity will be banned from threads and eventually banned from the forum. Any forum member who creates sensationalistic threads that are meant to rile a certain celebrity's fan base instead of offering civil, constructive criticism and debate, will be banned from threads and eventually banned from the forum.

Conclusion

These rules are general guidelines and flexible. Don't waste time trying to be clever and circumvent them.

This is a large forum that averages 10,000 posts per day. Although the administrators and moderators of LSA will make every attempt to enforce these rules, it is impossible for us to read every post every day. If you see a post that you think requires our attention, click the “report post” button and we will review it.
