Is anyone here invested in the stock market who is heavy into options trading? I have been invested in the market for over a year now, but just tried my hand at options for the first time yesterday and probably completely failed lol. No significant $$ since it was my first time. Hindsight, I should have played AAPL earnings today like I wanted to.

AMD has been hot and I've already been invested in them since last year via shares.

My plays yesterday:

AMD $22 Call - 12 contracts @ .09 avg

AMD $20.5 Call - 2 contracts @ .21 avg

Do you have any horror stories? Major wins? Tips for beginners?

I'll sit.

AMD ... with their insecure products are making a profit stockwise. I would have thought they would a good product to shortsell.

They've been good for me this year. I bought in @ 11.86 avg last year, but I don't have as many shares as I want. Thinking about entering again and increasing my shares.

Yes. I've been trading options about a year and a half. I took a class (not free but excellent. My mentor provides ongoing help as well) and belong to a couple groups. Take what I say with a grain of salt because I'm still a newbie trader. I have been profitable this year...blew my account up last year so I suppose I'm learning from my mistakes.

1. Don't trade earnings
2. Develop a trading plan with strategies for risk management
3. Keep learning to tweak #2

A good free online resource is real life trading with that guy name Jeremy. His videos for beginning traders helped me develop a plan and risk management. Any questions just ask and I will try to help. I love option trading. I've tried many businesses and its the first thing that I've found that could potentially lead to financial freedom for me.

But it's so tempting. Thanks for your post!

@orchidsinyellow At what point do you say "ok, let me take profits"? I have an AMD call up 400%+ and still going. Want to sell, but don't want to wait and it starts dropping.

Another AMD win.

$234 to $1035 within 2 weeks.

purchased 3 contracts @ .78, sold @3.45. Should have held 10 minutes longer, but I was comfortable pulling out.

@orchidsinyellow So I feel like I pretty much have the hang of this now except for some advanced stuff and I have to keep learning about The Greeks. I've been able to grow my holdings by almost 2k in a month which I think is pretty good for a beginner in Options. Could have been more too if not for some stupid plays that I lost (AMZN).

Right now I'm still on AMD with expiries every 2-3 weeks and I'm long on SNAP $5 1/18/19 Puts.

Have you looked at CRM? I've made good returns on them. I made about 38% on MSFT. Took a loss on MELI though. Looking to offset that this month.

Why only tech? You ever look at CRM? They've been on a nice run for a minute. Trade on the NASDAQ.

I'm still learning the Greeks too. I mostly keep track of theta. I've been using delta to know how likely it is that I'll make a profit. The book options for dummies is pretty good.

Hey hey! I solely trade tech because that’s the industry I know like the back of my hand.

I will check out CRM and let you know what I think. Do you do only focus on short option calls or do you do Leaps as well?

Investopedia.com is a great website to. Delta is the main Greek I use if I am doing a long time option play for longer than a week.

What platform do you use and are there any indicators you use? I use a few platforms to conduct my research like TradingView, Yahoo Finance and either Think or Swim or Robinhood to place the trade.

It feels so good to talk with people who do option trading on here.

I usually trade options 6 to 12 weeks out expiry. I trade on Schwab. Yes I use macd indicator and the money flow...slow stochastic...and sometimes rsi. I agree about talking to people also the option traders group on facebook is really good and helpful. Some big fish on there.

What’s the Facebook group name if you don’t mind sharing it?

Good stuff, The indicators I use are the MACD, Pars, Money Flow.

Great, the 6 to 12 week option time frame gives you time to be right and I like that plus contracts are more reasonable.

By the way I looked at CRM and it’s a great play.

The fb group is called option traders. Its closed so you will have to answer some questions to gain access. Tomorrow might be a red day with all this trade talk.

Yes I do. I made some money on AAPL puts a couple months ago. I'm definitely more bullish but I think more bear days are ahead so I'm preparing myself to think in more bearish terms.

Yes! More bearish days are ahead of us especially with these new tarrifs on China.

I haven't really been able to research and trade the last couple weeks. My plays also weren't doing well. AMD is failing me this week.

Yeah I noticed AMD took a drop this week as well. What I have noticed about AMD is it had its good weeks than its like I find myself yelling at the stock saying will you move already?! Lol

Did you buy time for your AMD trades?

So I am thinking of moving the majority of my stock and trades to the Robinhood app due to the no commission fee they provide when you trade. I’ve noticed how much commission fees I rack up and I am like nah son lol

Nope :(. Expiring today, 9/28. I was holding for 2 weeks. I'm pretty sure I've had opportunities to profit, but didn't take them.

I have an account with a broker, but I trade 100% with Robinhood. It does what I need and you can't beat free.

I've heard you get what you pay for as far as RH. People have complained that they have missed out on profits because RH takes too long to fill orders.

Some analyst at northland capital downgraded Amd...but I don't know. It had a really good run. Makes sense for it to retract a little.

Today looking a little red to neutral.
I'm screening for a put. Would like to get out of my msft call. This is my 3rd go around with them.
