Omg... I just had a meeting with my Peds instructor and she was so complimentary. she said I'm one of the tops and that I've been doing an excellent job this semester, well prepared for class, my family interviews are age appropriate and well done, and that all my work has been so thorough.
I have been sooo stressed and I felt like I had no idea what I was doing. I don't know anything about children. They scare me lol
She has actually been a wonderful instructor. I gotta let her know.
I might cry. I am so relieved

Question for ya’ll my school is requiring us to get the covid vaccine talking about clinical sites are forcing students to get them . I’m freaking out cause I wasn’t going to get it . And not because I don’t believe in medicine I’m just iffy on something that was newly made . Are any of ya’ll schools requiring you to get it? They said if we don’t it would delay us getting placement for clinical sites . I’m suppose to graduate in may 2022. And I just wana be done with school
The governor of New York State is requiring all students at SUNY and CUNY schools to get the COVID vaccine if they will be taking courses in person in the fall. (That would include any nursing schools.)

Hey guys! A program I’m applying to for Spring requires you to pass (90%) a dosage calculations exam. There isn’t a class offered they want you to teach yourself which is fine. Any advice you have? I was trying Dimensional analysis which I liked but I started the formula method and that one is good as well.

Anyone here a psych nurse? Or an ED nurse? Pros/Cons for those? I start nursing school next month and right now I think I’m most interested in those specialities. (Of course this may change during clinicals). Also any thoughts on the “best” speciality to get in?

I start my pediatric clinical this week and I honestly don’t want to go. I don’t know what to expect. I feel like I’ll forget everything once I get on the floor.
I also don’t wanna work with kids. Lol so yea, I’m nervous

I knew I didn’t want to work with children so I just did the bare minimum. My instructor wasn’t a hard ass with us. It was the easiest clinical and all my classmates passed it. Just listen to your instructor

I have no experience in either specialty, but ER will have the edge when or if you decide to switch specialities. Almost no nursing job will turn away the knowledge or work experience of an ER nurse.

They seem to be a tight knit group because they work together often, and see lots of crazy stuff. They are the literal frontline when it comes to dealing with the public. When I did clinicals at the ER, the day went by quickly.

Has anyone heard about the next generation nclex? This affects class of 2023 -2024 RN grads (and whoever waits until 2023 to become an LPN). They’re saying it’s going to be more complicated and difficult than the current nclex.

I’m not sure how this would be beneficial since people are still failing the current nclex LMAO

I’m so glad I’m graduating next summer. One of my professors said it’s gonna be like some case study style questions??

Yes smh. Buuuut one of the positive changes is that that we get partial credit for answers to SATA questions.

They think this new nclex will reduce the amount of errors that new nurses (up to 2 years of experience) make.

Here are some sample questions from the “NGN” (next generation nclex)

I predict that there will be increased competition for LPN programs because a lot of people decided that they want to be nurses during/after covid.

It was okay... I felt like I was in their way. We took vitals and that was it lol i was really bored. We weren’t allowed to give injections because we haven’t practiced at all on a person or mannequin. Glad that’s over with.

I just had my ER tech interview yesterday. The manager was talking to me like I already had the job. She loved the fact that I was already apart of nursing/student nurse associations so definitely join ones that you’re interested in.

I’m super excited about this job because she told me she hires techs as graduate nurses as soon as they graduate from nursing school. No reapplying necessary just a transfer away.

May I ask how you became a er tech? I’m in cna classes rn while I’m on summer break I’m almost done my prerequisites and I was interested in becoming a PCT.

This will be my first job as an ER tech. Hospitals require different qualifications so some will train on the job, some will take a pct and some prefer EMTs or LPNs so I would check the job postings at different hospitals.

I’ve been an urgent care MA for almost year so I have experience drawing blood, taking vitals, using EMR systems, dressing wounds, taking ECGs, front office operations, administering injections, setting up suture tables, point of care testing, etc.

I gained more useful skills from the time when I volunteered in a hospital so I made sure to add that too.

Yeah the next generation NCLEX will have “write in” question and answers as well. It won’t be completely multiple choice anymore.

I wonder why their making the NCLEX harder. Are they doing this so they’ll be less incompetent nurses ?

Update y’all.... I GOT ACCEPTED!!!! I cannot believe I’m going to be in nursing school after all these years. I’m so excited and nervous! Any tips/advice for nursing school would be great!
Yess... congrats ... get the test bank questions for textbook by any means necessary. Also , try to remember at least one question after an exam and google it right away to see where your instructor get the exam questions from. This will be a big help in learning how to prepare and study for the exams

Yes, they did a research study where they concluded that redesigning the nclex will reduce the amount of mistakes new nurses make in the first 2 yrs of their career.

Honestly most of what I learned was not in relation to school or the PN exam, but instead from what i gained on the job during 7 months of orientation (I got lucky lol) with highly competent and supportive colleagues, and what I continue to learn to this day nearly 5 years later.

200.gif

But let them believe the damn NCLEX will produce better RNs

The way to reduce mistakes is to ensure staffing teams with good cooperation (ie. non-toxic behaviours), adequate skill mix among staff, fair and humane patient ratios, work-life balance (no forced overtime), and adequate length of orientation for new staff.

Some of the nurses who started on my unit were already orienting new staff within less than a month of starting their own orientation. it's BS.

and YES i'm just salty about having to write a more difficult NCLEX in a couple years lol

Nexus nursing on YouTube is sooooo good. She has videos on every topic I like her better than Registered NurseRN. I could never get into Sarah, she annoys me for some reason.

I'm so glad I found this thread!!!

I have questions:

I would like to work in the ER.. what jobs should I look for right now? I'm almost done with nursing
- any tips on nclex books etc..
-anyone currently using ATI?

Maybe we can do a big study group for anyone studying for the nclex

I'm sure it will be helpful even to those of us who use HESI instead of ATI.

The yts in other groups were mad that it was being shared and trying to say it's like stealing. They're just guarding/gate keeping resources that don't even belong to them as usual.

Please order your book before karen and becky ask to speak to the manager and get the coupon code disabled, you know how they do.

@07poetry I have ATI "review modules" on pharm, nutrition, maternal, mental health, community, leadership, and peds. They are 7.0, 8.0, and 11.0 would these be useful to you or does it come with your ATI program?

I don't know how useful these are because my school uses HESI, I was just going to use them as a resource.

I have the books, but I saw the book you uploaded had a review for everything (I dont have that one lol)... I'm just trying to start studying for the predictor because if I don't pass the school will not allow me to take the boards or graduate so I'm stressed... they are good study tools so keep studying if you get the concept and the questions you'll pass nclex because ATI ask the hard questions and nclex is way easier ( that's what I've been told by graduates and professors)
