Okay since many of us probably starting the book this weekend. Here's the official read thread for our romantic suspense group read.
Here's the link to the book if anyone wants to join in
Pursuit of the Truth

81WbHJRwHQL.jpg

His skills can keep her safe

Her secrets could get them killed…

Security expert Ryan West’s worst fears come to life when hotel CEO Nadia Shelton is pushed in front of a taxi and nearly killed. Someone will do whatever it takes to find the brother Nadia thought was dead, and the only way Ryan can protect her as they uncover the truth is to stay strictly professional. But the sparks igniting between them are nearly impossible to ignore.

I'd like to start it off by asking if you've ever read a Harlequin novel before? And if so do you recall the name? And did you like it?

I grew up on Harlequin novels--literally one of the first "real" books I ever read (my mother and her cousin used to swap them). White ones though. That's all that was available back in the day.

I read my first Harlequin/Silhouette novel in the early 2000s. I believe it was one of Brenda Jackson's Westmoreland series. It was either that or one of Nora Roberts' books. I've been hooked on them since.

Yeah I the first Black Harlequin novel was published in 1984 by Sandra Kitt. Seems forever ago but it really wasn't that long.

I can't quite remember the title of the Harlequin book I read years ago because I was very young, but yes I have. I would sneak and read my mother's book when she would put it down lol! As far as the cover I just remember 2 white people embraced on a horse I think and the man looked like that guy the white women like, Fabio.

I'm using Hoopla to read the Kimani Romance backlist. By the time I was getting back into reading regularly as an adult after college Kimani was on it's last legs. I tried to read some of the books when it was ending but between those double features where they were putting two books in one and how they just threw every book written for Harlequin by a Black author in there; it was hard to navigate. At the time I just wanted slow burn small town romance and everything I was picking up ended up being Harlequin Desire style xes in the first chapter type of books. For awhile I just actively avoided Harlequin figuring I all their stories were like that. I'm finding the authors and the ones I like now though. Reese Ryan is someone I've been reading from lately.

I can’t remember any Harlequin romances and I usually chose those medieval or Victorian versions. I’ll start reading this one today to clear my head and step outside my normal genres.

Gonna try to read at least the first 2 chapters before bed. Family stuff is eating up all the time I'd rather be reading this weekend. So hopefully Sunday after cooking Easter dinner I can sit and make a dent in this.

I'm really enjoying this one. I like that they've known each other for awhile so it doesn't feel too forced. And the action and romantic chemistry is equally balanced.

I'm on chapter 8 right now. Really good so far. Nadia and Ryan have such fantastic chemistry. As for the intrigue
Nadia's uncle is acting kind of weird. His reaction to the note was super suspect to me.
. This is a quick read so I should have it done by tomorrow.

I enjoyed this read. The last romatic suspense I rea from Harlequin leaned too hard on the romance for me and the plot was thinly developed so I liked that this one had alot of action and adventure. They didn't spend the majority of their time laid up in the safe house. They were actually in the streets taking action.

I finished last night and I liked it a lot. I don't wanna give away too much but the loving came on time and didn't have me hitting my thigh wishing they'd get on with it lol! I'm looking forward to the next book coming in August.

Were you surprised by any of the twists?

Finished it this morning. I gave it 4 stars. Very entertaining read. I will say that for some reason I didn't see the reveal of
Nadia's brother being alive
coming. Caught me off guard. The romance was just enough and it was great because the chemistry between Nadia and Ryan was believable. That's why I prefer the Intrigue line over the Romantic Suspense line it's usually a good balance of the mystery and the romance.

This was my first Intrigue read. I read a book from the Romantic Suspense line where the couple was on the run but they were just chilling in hiding cooking meals together every day and having xes like there was no danger.

So I appreciated that Nadia was still doing her day job while dodging attempts on her life. I figured out the big reveal once they started dropping hints but there were things about it I didn't guess.

Not really honestly cause the uncle was so obvious and the way Nate died my red flags went up. I did however think Olivia may have been involved in the very beginning just because I was preparing myself for the scandal of it all. Whenever I read I create a movie in my head so I went a little LMN on that theory. It was a solid book. I do agree with you about it not being all about the romance. The intrigue is what kept me excited. Are you looking forward to the next book?

I knew the uncle was involved in some mess but I didn't realize the full extent of it.

I know the next book coming out in August has new characters and it's a new mystery with Ryan and his brothers security company but Pursuit of the truth left me wanting to know more although my thirst was quenched at the end for the time being. Like Gideon and the FBI agent, the sleazy hotel owner Michael( was that his name?), Olivia possibly hooking up with Shawn, the sketchy uncle(he worked my nerves!) Or will Ryan and Nadia work. It can go so many ways. Hopefully there will be another book about this group.

Next books are about Shawn and Gideon so I'm sure will get sprinkles but they're all going to be like standalones
