Hugh Augustine is a rapper from Los Angeles trying to provide something different for his community: access to affordable, plant-based meals that everyone can enjoy. After his national tour was cancelled due to COVID-19, Hugh came up with the idea to sell food to his community. Hugh is used to working with rappers like Isaiah Rashad and Jay Rock, but these days he's been working in the kitchen with his cousin and sous chef, Hayley. Hugh’s new normal is cooking and selling a variety of vegan meals, like jambalaya, enchiladas, and his famous soul bowl, at an affordable price of $10. He cooks and sells his food out of his home in the Baldwin Hills neighborhood of South LA and markets his small business through Instagram and Twitter. Hugh hopes his food will make a difference in the health and well-being of his community.

Soul food?
He said in the video it’s centered on vegan versions of familiar comfort food and he has a new menu frequently and has sh!t like black bean & sweet potato enchiladas, jambalaya. Also has a soul bowl (yams, greens, cornbread, red beans and rice and Mac and cheese)

..so yes, soul food.

$10 plates in LA are as common as liquor stores on the corner. Nobody calls it activism here unless ppl are trying to get grant money?!?! We all grew up with it.

What's new with Covid is people are doing deliveries rather than having folks pick it up at the house.

I think it’s activism because he’s promoting plant based options that don’t cost an arm and a leg. I can’t knock his hustle, I like it *shrugs*

Oh. Vegan is ubiquitous in LA. The avocado toast is real.
I’m from Southern California I understand there’s a lot of vegan options. I just liked seeing a black man with a purpose and a business being featured and I support it. It was a great video lol
