The caucasity! Black girl leads in YA are new? To whom? We need white love interests to make white people feel comfortable reading Black stories. Black love interests make them uncomfortable.
They really hopped in a Black writer's inbox to send that trashThe fµck!ng nerve. How about we let black authors do whatever the eff they want with their stories!
If you’re uncomfortable then stay uncomfortable. Black people aren’t born to make yts or any other group feel comfortable. Thaaaa fµck.
It's a cardinal sin around these parts for a Black woman to find a Black man attractive or having good Black men in their lives.Sounds like some fonts on here tbh. I was minding my business in a thread about fine chocolate and bihs came in there calling me names for finding a BM attractive.
You might wanna library request it. It wasn't that good. And the Black love interest basically codes white. In fact a lot of people mistakenly thought she was white. It's one of those settings where race is not factor in the world and the only description you get of the love interest is red hair and fawn skinned.Honestly this post makes me want to pick up her book even more. I just assumed the romance would be interracial since a lot of black YA romances are but knowing that the love interest is black is really exciting! This book was already on my TBR now I’ll probably be picking it up sooner then I thought!

It took a very white feminist approach to feminism where all the men were bad but like one was a side character who was basically only there briefly to say this book had a gay male side character. I never really got that most people believed strongly in this story outside of the monarchy. And the women are oppressed by only our lead Sophia wants to do anything about it. Every other woman just takes abuse from their husbands and other men with a "Them's the breaks!' attitude and slunk along miserably. They marketed it as Black girl magic yet there was nothing culturally Black about this book. And I could only recall one brief mention of the mc's race. The story also just kind of coasted along.Awww that sucks the premise sounded pretty interesting. What made it not that great? And the love interest is supposed to be black and she has red hair................
That ho saidWhy does two black characters make her ‘feel bad’?
