Well, I am pretty sure that most religious people are religious because of the fear of hell.

I live in quite a religious area and unfortunately that means that bible bashers and jeovah witnesses are everywhere. But everytime I talk to them they always say things like:
"So where are you going to go after you die"
"Heaven and hell is real and no one wants to go hell"
It is like their main focus is just making it to heaven. It's almost like all their good deads are secretly motivated to go to heaven.
I am not religious anymore, but I have been to church a few times throughout the past year and its all about being saved from going hell, and shaming people and making them sound sinful.
I think this is what put me off religion.
Does anyone else think the same as me?

Christian here, and yes I agree with you. I was talking about this the other day.

There is so much more than just dying and going to heaven on a lil row boat... Religious people like that rob you of the fullness of God and never talk about your earthly purpose.

Agreed. My whole life from birth I was taught if I'm not in this religion I'm going to be killed & the way ill be killed. Such lovely things to tell a child.

I know that some folks are only religious because they're afraid of hell, but I do believe some religious people just genuinely want to feel closer to God, no ulterior motives, hence living by his word.

EXACTLY!! like it reminds me of people just doing something nice to get something back, not by the kindness of their hearts. At the end of the day, God will know if you are genuine or not and doing good deads just to not go to hell isnt enough.

Some people are very genuine in their love of their religion, but I think the more pushy, in your face ones focus on the fear of hell. I personally believe it's used to control people. People should do good because it's the right thing to do, not because a higher power will punish them if they don't.

Im just worried for the Jehovah Witnesses who do more miles than marathon runners and stand in the sun all day only to be told on Judgement day that they didnt qualify for the 1 in 144,000 vacancies in heaven

Majority of the ones u see aren't eligible for heaven. Only men of higher up positions & they're told before they die that they're going to heaven. The rest will live on earth. No women in heaven.

I am pretty sure in the quran it says 99% of hell is women. I never new the same thing was in the Bible too.

It's not in the bible. That's just what the higher up JWs teach. Women aren't allowed the higher positions so that's why they're not allowed in heaven. Even when they're married to a man who is, he'll leave her for heaven & she'll stay on earth (if she's worthy of salvation)

That's so sad. And the way they dedicate their whole life to it.

I'm late to the party here but I agree with everything that has been said. My main problem with religion is that it is focused on death. Why does a random person who has never met me care what happens when I die? Personally I don't believe in heaven or hell but it is strange to me that all of these money hungry preachers are so concerned with me and my death.

Heaven and Hell are Earthly

the soul can't feel physical pain only the body can

the soul leaves the body it's in to
go on another journey while the body is left behind to rot

and FYI everything has a soul

I do agree with you. A lot of religious people are religious for that reason but like someone said God knows. I think the point of following religion is to better yourself not to have some end goal and that's why I don't think it's right to judge others on their journeys. Some religious people can be very off putting but not everyone is like that and you shouldn't allow others to dictate your journey.

Many religious people are not good people but think that just because of labels "i am a ___ and I believe in God's Name" they are going to a good place after they die.

In fact, I remember it being implied at a meeting that person living wrong that believes in and "love" Jehovah God is better than an unbeliever that is supposedly good, does good works and is nice.

I think religious people focus on heaven/hell because where you go is where you will spend most of your time. Eternity is eternity. There's no return. So it has great bearing since there are no do overs.

Do I think that people fear hell? Yes. And they should. Do I think people want heaven? Yes. And they should.

Having had the spiritual experience of seeing both, its worth the conversation.

But its more than that. There is a real pain one feels when they attend the funeral of someone who didn't make heaven. There's also a real joy when you attend the funeral of someone who did! I don't think its far fetched to discuss heaven and hell regularly when we see death in some way shape or form every single day of our lives.

It’s true, I left the church when I realized heaven and hell may not even exist and I’ve noticed that when someone claims to be an atheist to a Christian, the first thing the Christian says is that they are going to hell...

Yes they are more about obsessed with life after death they don’t even focus on living in the moment with their life now

So at a funeral people can "feel" who's going to hell and who's going to heaven? My most painful deaths were my grandmother and 5 yo nephew. So that means that the 5 yo wasn't going to heaven?

See that's why I can't rock with religious people. Yall say the most bizarre stuff.

I was discussing the differing ways that people who understand the spiritual plane grieve and yes it does differ in my experience.

I didn't ask you to rock with me so feel free to press on. Its funny though that "non religious" people think they should be able to say\feel whatever they want but get an attitude about someone else talking about their experiences.
