Hi Fonts,

I've been using rice water for about 2 months now. During wash day and also spritzing during the week. I've noticed growth, less shedding, and a ton of great benefits for my hair. But the bigger one seems to be that the rice water has completely loosened my curl pattern? I've gone from 3C/4A to what is easily 3A in some sections but 3B in the majority of my hair. Anyone experience this?

No, but I recommend not using it if it's changing your texture that dramatically.

Your hair is going to start looking like it has heat damage.

I’ve never tried rice water and don’t plan on it honestly.

Maybe if you stop it will revert back.

Also is growth significant? Sometimes when the hair gets longer the curls look different.

My hair texture isn’t loosening but I only use it like twice a month. And I wait days before using it like 3-4. What I have noticed was that my hair has become soooooooo thick to he point where I don’t even perm it anymore because it doesn’t look even stay straight anymore

Maybe your hair is so weighed down from the starch, that it's making your curls look looser?

Is it just loosening your hair or is it actually changing your hair texture? As in making the curls bigger in diameter?

I haven't been convinced something like that can change your hair type. If your curls are the same size in diameter but are just looser, then it's more probable that the rice water is simply beginning to weigh your hair down. If that's the case, you may even be on your way to build up.

What if it’s not “ changing your curl” but maybe your hair way dry before and it’s restoring the protein in it

no, nothing if your hair type is changing your hair may have protein overload/damage. i've been using rice water and it enhanced my definition and made my hair more coarse but no change to my curl pattern i'm still 4a/4b

I was using rice water consistently, cut it down from every other day to a few times a week because my hair was showing signs of protein overload (no breakage, but smell and quality of styles). I was primarily using rice water to retain length, but since I cut my hair about 2 months into using it i just stopped because length wasn’t a priority for me any more. I did not experience curl loosening though, my W&Gs just didn’t look as good. i did experience less shedding though, so it was working very well.

my mom still uses rice water on her relaxed hair and likes it a lot. there’s not much difference in length but it looks a lot fuller and thicker.

Your hair can look very defined when very moisturized. I doubt your texture changed. If I do the max hydration method for a week my hair will appear more defined and looser but it will then go back to “normal” if you stop the moisturizing routine.

No, I never heard of this before (changes the hair texture or pattern). Although the fermented rice water did made my hair shiny, curls pop and less shedding after a month using it. Also, my hair looks a lot thicker. Are you high in porosity or low? Are you balancing your hair with a moisturizing treatment (deep condition)? If you are high in porosity and you balanced your hair with a deep conditioner--maybe this is what YOUR hair needed? A balance of protein and moisture.

Another factor, could be stress? Not saying that you're stress.

However, prolonged periods of stress can actually lead to chemical and physical changes in your hair's color, texture, and body.

OTHER FONTS:

PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS ON A REGULAR TRYING TO CHANGE YOUR CURL PATTERN OR TEXTURE IF YOU ARE LOW POROSITY. YOU WILL DAMAGE YOUR HAIR!! THE PROTEIN IN THE RICE CAN MAKE YOUR HAIR BRITTLE AND BREAK OFF! PROTEIN HELPS CLOSES HIGH POROSITY HAIR CUTICLES.
