She probably didn’t even know it was a remake. She probably just paid the person who gave her the song, trusting that it was ok to use.

At this point Rih should just use mixes of her own songs to avoid these complaining ass people with their faux outrage. It’s become ridiculous.

Your fave is the one undermining her, because those are her vocals, and if Maphorisa did indeed sell them with the sample, he was also in the wrong because guess what genius, those vocals belong to Busiswa and her alone! So she's still in the wrong, but as a stan I understand that your mental capacity doesn't allow you to be accountable!
Your thread is flop, try again next week.

The real flop is the fact that you as a grown ass woman, are a stan... I can create a new thread next week, but can you be reborn into a more mature person?

I’ve been saying this. And what’s funny is some font had the nerve to claim she‘s only teasing new music to promote new Fenty Beauty products when the woman won’t even use her own music in her ads. Like I think she’s used two measly songs in the hundreds of ads her products have produced. It really makes no sense.

I don't hate Rihanna, I'm actually a fan not a stan! But the way Busiswa was treated in this situation wasn't right! You're so blinded by your loyalty to someone who doesn't even know you, that you don't realise that western artists usually do this to African artists all the time, and it isn't right!!! I'm not an immature school girl that I should make it my business to legitimize or discredit everything that an entertainer, of all professions, does!... But evidently, we can't say the same for you! Be as unfair as you want to be in this situation, but Rihanna should've asked her for permission!

Girl, there is no loyalty or anything at play here.
This is just a sample and she doesn't has to ask her for permission because
1. This is not her song
2. This is not her song, she's just a feature.
3. Again, this not her song.
The bit of her voice you hear is not even a word. And also you're doing too much because Busiswa doesn't even care so how do you care about a attention sicking tweet more than the actual one who did it. She know she doesn't has much of a case here.

She know what she's doing and y'all give her the attention she wanted now she's out here dragging y'all for not minding your business.

I'm fully aware that African artist get their work stolen by Western artist, but this is not the case here and Rihanna has always credited African artist.
Your lil attempt failed sis"

So it’s the stans but you are literally ignoring the FACT Fenty Beauty paid the actual owner of the song. Why aren’t you demanding the owner pay the feature he used???? But you’re not a hater? Let me ask you something, if you buy an outfit from Nordstrom’s and you get a call from a guy who said he wasn’t paid for making the outfit snd demands you pay him are you going to pay him or are you going to tell him to take it up with Nordstroms?
They stay trying and looking like fking fools.

Bet you they won’t go drag the DJ or demand he pays the feature. Where’s the thread to drag him?
They are so ridiculous #smh. Busiswa who's voice is used is now dragging the people like the OP in her twitter page. They hate to see it ... their lil attempt failed

It’s hilarious lmao. All she wanted was attention, now she’s like speak for yourself and worry about actual injustices. Yet the OP is still fighting for her after she told them to shut up and mind their business.

Not if the DJ owns the masters.

Y’all are so ignorant.
Rihanna will not pay the owner directly, she will pay rights to the publishing company. The publishing co collects royalties, for example, Warner-Chapelle or Sony-ATV, and redistributes royalties to artists, songwriters & copyrights holders.

Do you really think companies licensing a song go around paying artists, songwriters directly...?
Why do you think artists sign these big deals with Sony-ATV? For fun...?
It’s Sony-ATV’s job to collect all royalties on an artist’s behalf whether from radio, Spotify,Arenas, companies licensing the song in commercials.

also, most of the time, the artists are not involved in the decisions of licensing their song. Just like Paul McCartney was crying to the press when Michael Jackson licensed the Beatles’ Revolution to Nike in the 90’s. McCarney had no say, but he still collected royalties as a co-songwriter. Michael Jackson owned ATV music at that time.
Paul could whine as loudly as he could, that wasn’t his decision to make, and as far as we know he didn’t turn down those checks.

the most ignorants are always the loudest.

Sadly, social media has given free reign for ignorant people to be as loud as they can, without facing consequences when they are proven wrong. So it will continue.

One thing this call out culture shows me is that people strongly lack critical thinking. They see some info pass them on the SM then react to it without using some basic reasoning skills then research. I don’t know who the artist of the song is, but I can safely say that if some music is being used in a major cosmetic ad that they have cleared and paid for it and Rih probably has nothing to do with that process.

It’s always “Rih has nothing to do with this” when it’s accountability time just like when she invited the night king to her launch. Then every other time it’s “Rih owns 50% of Fenty! She’s in complete control!” when it’s to downplay LVMH involvement.

Y’all are so damn extra. Disney did the same thing with Beyoncé crazy in love, on That’s so raven. In fact it’s done often. And the artist can’t sue, because the song was remade making it original. Yes, it would’ve been nice of her to put the artist on, but she didn’t. And doesn’t have to.

Lol at this flop thread. Op came in here wanting Rih to get dragged to the pits of hell, but the truth prevailed. Rih paid the rightful owner of the song, and that's all that matters.

Soooooo, We’re just going to ignore this tweet? Either Rihanna handed her twitter over to a 48 year old white man or she’s in a hostage situation and is crying out for help.

Yeah when she said “about to be litty” I was like :disdain “who is this?”

I mean the influencers complain that savage doesn't want to pay so this is not surprising

They paid the owner of the song. Why would the influencers complain, when that's the contract they signed for? No one put a gun to their heads to sign the contract. The celebs get paid, but the lesser known influencers sign up to get the exposure that Savage brings.

She shouldn't mix her music career with her businesses. It's tacky. However, I do hope this means she uses house music for the album.

It's literally the same song but the navy will excuse colourist loving Billy Ray Fenty.

Please don't cry about appropriation but excuse this behaviour.

Rih is Caribbean first off. Second, that sounds like a generic Black American house beat, and so is the styling in the video bc that doesn’t look like traditional African attire to me, so so much for your cultural appropriation claims :joy: .

Clearly the original artists were inspired, and so was the DJ who got paid for his remix. She needs to be speaking to the Dj, not rih.

I'm confused what is happening. Aren't artists paid royalties if you use their music in an ad? Why is that not happening here? Maybe I missed someone explain it.

@lurker2 It was a QUESTION because I'm CONFUSED. You ain't have to groan for no reason.

It says it's a "remake" but licensed remakes were paid for somewhere along the line. In order to make money from a remix or cover, the artist has to pay royalties to the original artist of the song. So what is preventing that from having happened in this case? Did they sell permission to the remix artist for a cheaper price than they would have Fenty? If so that's on their label for setting it up as a fixed price instead of % of revenue. I'm confused on the technicality going on here. The original post is not clear, it just has tweet takes.

Rih gotta tread lightly now. People already pissed abt her going the Avon route, this might be a situation where they take out their frustration on her :disdain
