I revisited the film, Interview with the Vampire, last night and (with all due respect to Christian Slater who donated his earnings from the film to two of River's favorite charities,) I couldn't help but think just how wonderful River would have been as, "Daniel Malloy"/the interviewer had he lived to play the role. That said, I felt like posting some random photos of River today:

I just watched Interview with the Vampire again the other night as it's been awhile. Christian Slater was okay in it, but then he's not the actor River was. In short, what you said is spot-on - River would have been impeccable. When I first saw the film in the theater back in '94, I imagined him as Daniel Malloy/ the interviewer anytime the character appeared on screen. I hadn't done that since - until my more recent viewing of it; it tugged at my heartstrings to do it though. He would've been so perfect.

Another important thing to note is Anne Rice's vampires are supposed to be exceptional in their beauty; it seems to be a condition in her universe that in order to be turned, one of the requirements is to have the looks. The character of Daniel is later made into a vampire and is in subsequent books. I think you know what I'm getting at: River had that beauty.

God, it sucks that he's gone.

Yes especially when he dyed his hair black, I could totally see him killing the role he was so beautiful and talented he had so much potential before his untimely unfortunate passing.

I doubt it as well.

I know that with, My Own Private River (in case you haven't heard of it, it's a separate, posthumous release of My Own Private Idaho containing 2 hours of River's scenes which had been edited out from the original film. You can view it on Youtube.), the Phoenix family blocked hours more of film footage with River - even though there is said to be nothing untoward about the footage. I am not sure then of their reasons for having done this.
dat witch Arlyn or watever her name is i think they are all ashamed as they depended on him financially... his dad wanted him out of Hollywood and for good reason.

Not to mention all the alleged xesual abuse he was subjected to in that cult and after. Some of the stories his friends tell are horrifying. His parents were complicit in a lot of sick sh!t that happened to those poor kids.

I think the main reason they don’t want a biopic or at least an accurate one is because a lot of their dirty laundry will be aired out and they’re probably worried that people will see his parents for what they are

True! and you think them wicked and money-hungry Hollywood execs want to be outed? Hollywood does not want anyone to know their REAL pedophiles so they won't do a true biopic of River maybe thats why too the family doesnt want to do it and I know Arlyn or whatever discouraged the other kids not to do a biopic of River because their careers would end #bigfacts. Also, I find it strange Rain took over River's writings and music and didn't produce the promised album. I don't know they seem cold if that was my brother I know it's painful but I would have to tell his story and also continue his legacy more. They should have established a vegan clothing line for River and released his music and ensured his name was kept alive. I think it's River keeping himself alive, it's just the natural love of his fans keeping his legacy alive. Him mother just rub me the wrong way! The father (his lazy ass) did not want the kids in Hollywood Arlyn overrode him. Chile...money cause I am just finding out River was sending one of his sisters to University that's not his JOB! it's nice but still, his parents should have taken on that responsibility. He was completing Bloodwork and gonna move on to Interview with a Vampire and would take a break but he was continuing acting through those tough times he was having to pay her tuition smh Hollywood is not a safe place and a lot of pimping of kids goes on in Hollywood look at Corey Haim, the other Corey, John Brandis, Pettite and Aaliyah and I think Brooke Shields also after seeing her with her coochie ALL OUT at 10 yrs old! talking bout art my ass! How can a parent not stand up and be TRUE PARENT for their child and who knows even MJ too smh These young talents dont get hooked on drugs for nothing.

There were also stories that his mother encouraged other cult members to xesually abuse river and his parents encouraged/organised River to have xes with other kids through out his childhood which is why he said he became “celibate” at 10 if you go on certain forums and his tumble page you can fall down a rabbit hole of disturbing stories of the abuse his parents orchestrated.

Just want to note that it's only minutes away from becoming River's birthday, the 23rd (well, it is where I am in the U.K.). He would've been 51 years-old and without a doubt, every bit as beautiful and special as always. Happy birthday, River. :cakeYou are much missed and so loved.

I used to love Titanic and then I heard that River was supposed to play Jack and suddenly Leo's acting became bland. I wonder if that is why he couldn't win an Oscar for so long, because he was always compared to River and couldn't reach his level no matter how hard he tried.
His presence was (is) too strong.

I tend to agree with you.

Frankly, I find Leonardo DiCaprio's acting really overrated - always have. To this day, I feel he peaked with The Basketball Diaries, performance-wise, and that was over 25 years ago.

Leo will never have what River had, acting-wise: that raw, natural talent, the depth of soul and humanity which River was able to bring carry through into his characters. Something like that can't be eclipsed so easily - or even at all.

Beautiful gifs by the way. :rose

Idk if he would get into acting, but I think singer Jxdn could make a good River Phoenix in a biopic if he has good acting skills

Dang. I forgot his birthday. Sailed right on by me. Well, some things are going on and taking up my attention. I was going to have a River movie mini-marathon. It would have been Jimmy Reardon (to this day I've never seen the whole thing and right now I don't remember much about it), Stand By Me (of course), Running on Empty (of course) and probably This Thing Called Love. I can't deal with My Own Private Idaho even tho he was excellent in it. It's just too weird for me---but not as weird as that historical where I think he's going mad seeing visions of his dead Native American wife, Savage something? Anyway, happy belated, never forgotten (the birthday maybe but not him!).

I have more to say but it's late and I'm tired. There are quite a few posts I missed and need to catch up on. Peace.

ETA: Y'all post much better pix of him than I do. I be lazy about it and grabbing whatever. I'm gonna stop trying and just look!

I love your post so much and all your pics!:rose:rose:rose:rose:rose Please don't stop posting pics of River (unless you really prefer to just look, of course)! How cute and endearing he looks in each of the three you posted.

Your River movie marathon sounds fantastic. By the way, the film set in the Old West with the Native American spirit is called, Silent Tongue. It's a strange one alright but there are things about it I appreciate - including River's presence/performance of course and also Richard Harris'.

My Own Private Idaho is a bit too offbeat for some, but I enjoy it a lot (it helps that I also like offbeat flicks) and, yes, River was so brilliant in it.

I have not yet watched anything to commemorate River's birthday as, like you, life has me busy and distracted. But I will do this soon. I'm still thinking what I will opt for in that realm. I'll probably add Running on Empty to my list for sure as I viewed Stand By Me and My Own Private Idaho again earlier in the summer.

Also, I'm always so happy to see this thread bumped because I agree that River is never forgotten (nor should he ever be). :star

THE FINEST WHITEMAN I EVER SEEN AND KNOWN #PERIOD ! YOUR FAVE COULD NEVER MAKE A WHITE T AND FLORAL NECKLACE SEXY AND IT'S 2021 OK!
I agree. THE absolute finest ever white man! Inside and out! You have me chuckling on the white shirt and floral necklace comment but what you said is true! River was (or is, since I believe the soul lives on) was just beautiful and so sensual! With the anniversary of his death (28 years!) coming up at the end of next month, I'm feeling upset about his loss (and the circumstances surrounding it all over again). :broken_heart:

River reminds me of a white male Aaliyah. They have similar aura and energy. It's like this mysterious warm ethereal energy.

I wanted to post about something eerie in relation to River which I was only made aware of over this past weekend. I also want to post about it because I believe in spirituality and the spirit world.

In finally watching the 2020 documentary, River was Here - A Legacy - at just under the 1 hour and 13 minute-mark, it gets into a photo capturing what was the last film footage ever taken of River on the set of Dark Blood. It was taken just hours prior to his passing away and is not a shot in the film. I'd recently run across the photo in looking for ones to post to this thread. Because it was peculiar-looking in nature, I assumed it was Photoshopped and so went on past it. In the documentary, however, it turns out it's the real deal according to Dark Blood cinematographer, Ed Lachman (I'd posted a related quote of his earlier as to the dailies on that last day). He says it was as though River appeared as a 'cardboard cut-out' among the backdrop of the lit candles and tunnel - that it was as though you could see River's 'ghost' or 'spirit' caught on camera at the end of the take. The man who was interviewing him (for another documentary called, Never Give Up about the making of Dark Blood) seemed stunned, saying, "This is crazy." There is also a strange aura of light around River's form which you don't have to look twice to see.

The photo:

View attachment 2411785

Ironically, some of the lines River spoke on that last day (October 30, 1993) while working on Dark Blood were:

"It took a few thousand years just to invent the alphabet and it's all going to be flushed down the john, the entire civilization. You see, I see things and I know things...Don't you want to know? Don't you want to realize?! I don't want to die. I don't want to die."

:rose:peace
I believe in spirituality, spirits and the astral realm and this may very be significant, no way it isn’t

I hope Hollywood never does a biopic on River. Many (not all as there are exceptions) biopics suck in that they sensationalize the person - focusing on (while also exaggerating to a great extent) the darker, more controversial aspects of them. River would've hated that like he also hated Hollywood.

If such a film is ever done, I'll say again that I feel one of an independent nature would be better and would honor River the most. His best performance, to the minds of many, was in My Own Private Idaho which was an independent film. Thus, there would a be a poetry to such a biopic in a full-circle sense.
Hollywood doesn’t care about the biopic of passed on celebs like they portray themselves to do, they do it for money, that’s why some of them is pure garbage. We can pray at least if they do it’s decent but unfortunately nothing can stop them from still profiting off of dead celebs no matter how terrible the production of it is

There's a difference between an authorized biopic and unauthorized biopic. Now, not all official biopics are great because of different reasons, but authorized biopics are usually superior to bootleg ones. Even ones that don't involve the estate can be great with the right script, budget, producers, directors and actors. As long as it's not a musician because their films are nothing without their music.

Ooh i take that back then. I wasn't aware of Jaden hossler old tweets problematic past. I looked it up. Disappointing because I enjoyed Jaden's music . He did address it. Of course he denied affiliation and denounced it. I know people do change but i still side eye him
