Rupert Grint Talks Servant and Possible Harry Potter Television Series - Variety

Rupert-Grint.jpg

Rupert Grint may have co-starred as Ron Weasley in all eight “Harry Potter” movies, but he hasn’t actually watched most of them. “I’ve probably seen the first three at the premieres, but after that I stopped watching them,” Grint, 32, tells me from his home in the U.K. “But now that I have a daughter [Grint’s girlfriend, actor Georgia Groome, gave birth to baby Wednesday in May], I will probably have to watch them with her.” Speaking of the hit franchise, Grint says he doesn’t expect to be a part of the “Harry Potter” series being developed by HBO Max. “It’ll be weird if it was a continuation kind of thing,” he says. “I weirdly feel quite protective of that character. Even when I saw the stage shows, it was a very strange experience. … If it’s like a different group of friends, I guess it would be interesting.”

Rupert was always my fave. I'll never forget the first big purchase his goofy ass made was an ice cream truck.

Amoung the trio, Rupert Grint was the best actor. Sad how they shift Ron out and gave all his lines to Emma Watson.
Yeah, Ron's character in the books was way better than they portrayed in the movies. His growth was great and he had some awesome one liners, which, like you said, they gave most of to Hermione.

I can imagine after filming and repeating the same lines 100 times you wouldn’t feel compelled to watch the movie. Lol.

I spent qurantine watching the whole franchise again this summer.

I can't believe this man was my very first celebrity crush. I would go to our computer and google him, multiple times a day. He made me feel something

I guess it is a common thing where a lot of actors don't like and won't watch their own movies. I would probably hate it too, if I were in that profession.

Also, he had a baby with the girl from Angus Thongs?! I used to think Aaron Taylor Johnson was so charming in that movie. I am in shock right now lol. Where does the time go?

To be fair I would say 1 to 3 and a little bit of 4 were the most lighthearted ones and give the most nostalgia. The rest of them get hella dark and depressing.

He came to collect those checks and BOUNCED lmao #mood.

I know Johnny Depp is notorious for not watching his films. He shows up for work and performs and then it's done. Kind of like stage/theater work. That would be me tbh I'm not trying to see me on a gigantic movie screen pretending to cry or some ish lol

I can believe this. The movies got incredibly depressing after the first 3, and it took 1 1/2-2 years to make each movie. I can understand why he was over it.

I don't blame him. If I was an actress I wouldn't watch my performances either.

Dead ass. I was talking to my aunt the other day about the films and I said that at one point they stopped being suitable for children. She took me to see GOF when it first came out and I remember putting my sweater over my face for most of the movie because it scared me so bad.

This entire time I thought that this girl had married and had a baby with Ed Sheehan.

So Rupert feels protective of a fictional character but not the woman that created it. That was being given threats of rape and death, just because she wants women and girls to have safe spaces...: unamused:

I don’t want to see him in any new Harry Potter movies or t.v series.

Byeeee why does that movie get so much hate! I thought it was so exciting!
I think *my humble opinion* it's because the first 3 movies stuck pretty well to the books, and whoever took over for movie 4 just took all sorts of creative liberties. The Yule ball sticks out in my memory as something where there were a lot of differences. Plus books 4-6 JKR added in puberty woes for a lil' razzle dazzle and I think the annoyance of many character's actions were definitely magnified in the movie.

Now for people who only watch the movies and don't read the books, maybe they have different reasons, but I know I heard a lot of fellow Potterheads complain about some of the adaptations as well.

Now that I think about if, GoF IS my least favorite movie of them all..... Prisoner of Azkaban and Order of the Phoenix were always the most litty movies to me tho.

This isn’t uncommon . A lot of actors don’t watch themselves on tv or movies

you already know what’s going to happen so I can see why you wouldn’t want to be bothered .

I’m on the third book now and yea for sure there are a lot of similarities to the movies. I heard that the director for the fourth Harry Potter refused to read the book because it was “too long” lmao. So I guess he just went with what he knew.

I think 1-3 were most like the book than the rest of the series, in my opinion. I don’t blame him :ROFLMAO:

I hated half blood prince myself:ROFLMAO:, but maybe Rupert remembers what a jerk his character was to Harry and Hermione in numbers 4-7, ie accusing harry of putting his name in the cup, leaving them in last movie to find horcruxes because he was jealous etc...

You know what Rupert??? I get it! I hate hearing myself on record so I avoid it like the plague!! If I was in the movies I would fast forward my parts so I don't have to see :skull:

Me when my friends record us partying and want to show others with my annoying nasally voice

I hate order of the phoenix with a PASSION. I also partially hate certain parts of half blood prince because JKR must've gotten confused while writing

For some odd reason, JKR thought Harry & Ginny made sense over Harry&Hermione:arrogant

Dumbledore did it for me. Like wtf was he so aggressive for all of the sudden? I know the OG actor had passed away and the book was serious but it was a complete disservice to his character. Dumbledore had his personality issues but in general he was kind and patient. This movie had him all rarara when it wasn’t called for.

I forgot all about that and you are SO right! Part of Dumbledore's charm is that you never saw him sweat a thing. His aggression (and some of the other leading cast seemed more fired' up than usual also now that I recall) was so out of place.
