Should I give the job to the person who wants it more or is more qualified

I'm in a dilemma.
I'm casting for a short film and I have two really great actors who are competing for the lead part.
I have one actor who is really good, but is very laxidasical and non-committal about the part.
I have another one who is really committed and ready to act, but is just not there yet with her acting skills.
Should I sacrifice the quality of my work or should I just put up with a headache of an actor to get a quality film.
What do you guys think?

Depends on what you value more. However, these days it's rare to see people who want to commit to something and give it their all so idk perhaps the person who really wants it might bring you the quality as well as well as a peace of mind.

Goodluck with your choice though!

Do you think the person who’s committed will improve their acting skills in time for filming?

Bad acting is temporary, but a badly-acted film is forever.

What do you mean by noncommittal exactly

Like they aren't committing to do the role? or they aren't showing the excitement YOU want?

Those are two very different things

I would 100% go with the person that's committed because you can help groom their craft with side classes or work with them directly.

How much less qualified is the candidate who wants the job more? Because if she's just about as good as the other person, I'd choose her!

I'd go with the person who has the most talent/is the most qualified. Yes they'll be a headache but the goal is for your work to shine. If you're able to keep the other person as an understudy, do that as well if possible. Good luck :clover
